  6. Hi! we are moving next week! super excited! we have 3 kids 1 boy age 10 1 girl age 8 and our baby girl age 6 months! It would be great to meet other families!
  7. Can anyone give me some information on places to do White card training for ACT? My husband is a carpenter and needs to do this training. I found A list of RTO's but I am not having much luck finding a course for my husband in Aug when we arrive. I did find CIT but that one is almost 200 AUD. Is that the normal price? Thanks for your advice on this. Just trying to get things worked out for when we get over there.
  8. I already have my 457 visa but i am waiting for my new baby's visa, We got ours last year but had to wait to come to Oz until after she was born. We submitted hers July 8th. Hope we hear soon because i am supposed to start in less than 2 weeks....
  9. Dreampath, What is your timeline? when did you submit?
  10. thanks, I emailed them and this is what they had to say to me. AARRRG!!!! Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for contacting the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. The application about which you are enquiring is awaiting allocation to a case officer for assessment. The 457 section received a very high volume of applications in June and we appreciate your patience as your application/s progresses in the queue. Please do not send any further status update requests so we can devote our time to processing applications. If any further information is required in support of your application, your case officer will contact you directly.
  11. Hello, I already have my 457 visa but I am still not in Australia yet. I became pregnant and had to wait until the birth of my baby. Now we are getting ready to go and plan to leave on Aug 12th. We submitted the visa for the baby on the 7th of July. Here is her timeline. My question is this, Because we submitted the visa already would we be able to get a bridging visa or something to bring her over on while we wait for her visa? Any information is helpful! Thanks! 12. Thanks for the info! HAve to say the snow and winter excites as I have been living on an island with no winter or snow. Yes, teriible i know... how could i ever leave? ha ha. anyways we are set to leave Aug 12th and I am super excited. Finally told the kids about us coming first and then them coming after once we get a house. They actually took it rather well and my mommy guilt is much better. Half packed, just waiting for Rebekah's visa to come through. Its in a que waiting for a CO:mad:. I emailed them and they basically told me to leave them alone so that they could process applications... nice huh... yea. Thinking it will come through next week though as it is very straight forward and all of the documents are submitted. We have temporary housing for about 3 weeks or so. My boss found us a nice 2 bedroom place for 150 a week through one of her connections. So that will work until we can get a house sorted out. I start working basically immediately lol and my husband will do his White card and start looking for work as well. He is a carpenter. Thanks again everyone! Its nice to keep in touch with people. God bless!
  13. Quall, thats a very good point. I guess its mainly my frustration with leaving them here for the first little bit. As a mom, I just want them with us as soon as possible. It was just a though though. But I agree, I think it would be better to wait until we have a permanent house. It will be better for the children too to come to Australia and to be able to settle into a home. See.. thats why I like this website! As for the snow, I CANT WAIT!!! I grew up in the US in Colorado and I went to college in Minnesota. So it will be so nice for me. although the timing difference throws me off some. Hopefully its still around when I get there in Aug. As for Childcare for my baby, I have a good friend that is planning on coming out for a bit to help me with her. Before she arrives though, My boss said I could bring her temporarily to my work which is at a Child care Place. Majura Park Childcare. its all working out. I just need to get over my feeling of failure with not bringing my two older step children with us right away. I had visions of all of us going together from the very beginning. Again, I know it is for the best though.
  14. Thanks so much for all the valuable advice! My baby' medical arrived in Sydney on Monday and was finalized that same day! WOOHOO! Also my boss has found us temporary housing through a contact that she had. Feeling so blessed right now. hopefully this visa comes through soon and we can get tickets this week. We plan to fly out the 12th of Aug. As for the older kids, they are old enough to fly UM. So that is our plan. however we may have a friend bring them out. not sure on that yet. If we stay at the temporary housing for a couple of months can the children start school while we live there? How permanent does the housing have to be? We were thinking about maybe bringing them out just a couple of weeks after us and maybe staying in the temporary housing for a couple of months and then getting our house. Any ideas on this or should we stick with the original plan to get our house first. Any ideas are helpful at this point. thanks! Excited to get out there very soon!
  15. yes I am the main applicant. we will arrive in about a month. Can we do this before we arive for him? He also has to do white card training. do we need to get tax file numbers too? arrg soo confused!!
  16. My hubby is a freelance carpenter. does anyone know if he can get an ABN number? alot of jobs ask for this
  17. Hello! Ok so less than a month until we get to Australia! getting excited! however nervous too. I have been looking for temporary rentals, like a room for rent or something small and inexpensive until we get things worked out. I have found lots of adds on gumtree, and all homes. I have sent messages but I have not had any responses...:arghh: Help... We need to get something cheap for the first couple of weeks as we will be waiting for that first paycheck to get the rental. And before anyone talks about not bringing enough money, we are bringing what we can, but I am currently living in Mauritius. If anyone knows about the money exchange, basically its almost nothing. so we have been struggling to get this all together. however God is good and is providing! I know he will provide this too with the rental but I just need to know where to turn. Not sure why no one answers their gumtree adds. grrr... Anyways TIA!
  18. We are coming on my 457 visa and it is on the SOL so I believe we would qualify for the fee waiver. What do you think about having the kids wait to come until we get settled into a house though?
  19. YAY!! Well after having a baby, waiting for another job in the same company to come available I can now officially say that we are moving to Canberra! Soo excited! Now the fun begins! I have myself, my husband, my two step children and a 5 month old baby. Whew... Anyways, Can anyone tell me about how the school system works? I am coming on a 457 visa and will be applying for the fee waiver for my two older children, but do I have to be in my permanent rental to do that? Would they be able to go to school if we are in a temporary rental for a month or so? We are considering leaving the two older children here for about a month or so until we find a permanent rental. This is because of myself and my husband will be working. The baby will be able to attend my childcare where I will be teaching for a week or so but We will have to get care for her. I think it might be easier to not have to find care for the older two as well. I feel bad about it but We are just not sure. If they can attend school from the beginning it will work out and we will bring them with us when we move. However if they have to wait to attend school than we need to leave them here until we secure our rental. does anyone have any advice on locations? I am looking at the banks area or somewhere around there but I will be working in Majura Park. Is that too far for a commute? Is there another area that is decently priced like the banks area but closer to Majura Park? And lastly does anyone know of a temporary rental that we can use for the first month, if it is just my husband, baby and myself for the first month it could be just a room or 1 bedroom apt. But if the kids are coming from the start than it will need to be at least 2 bedrooms. We don't have to find a furnished apartment though because my employer has furniture for us to use. Thank you for your advice! We are super excited about this move! God bless!
  20. Thank you for your response, It is still valid. I have checked on Vevo. My employer never cancled my nomination as she planned to employ me after the baby was born. After much searching we found out that it is 900 AUD (YIKES) for my daughters visa. we will do that this week. Thanks for all of your advice!
  21. Let me correct myself, We never actually came to Australia yet so We contacted the health insurance and let them know they told us to redo our application when we were ready to go. I dont belive we are breeching our contract if we are not onshore. Thank you for your help. Wow 900 AUD... YIKES!!!
  22. Hello, :err:I really hope that I can find some answers here. I have a 457 visa with my husband and 2 step children. Right when we were getting approved I found out I was pregnant. I had to wait to come to Australia for my 457 visa job until after I had the baby. Now the baby is nearly 5 months old and I just received word that I would be able to come out for work in the next 4-6 weeks. We are very confused as to what the cost of this application will be with the new visa charges. Will it be the full 900 or 225 for additional applicants under 18? Soo confused! :arghh: Also, we are thinking about coming out to Australia with our 457 visas but bringing the baby on an ETA and then when we arrive and get settled we can do her 457 application then...:skeptical: What do you think that the chances are of being able to do that? Most importantly we know that God will work all of this out for His glory and that we should not worry.:angel_happy_face_ha But we need to know how much it is going to cost for these new charges... One last question is what insurance is a good insurance to go with for the 457 visa requirement? We had insurance previously but as we never made it out to oz yet we cancelled it and now have to reapply for that as well. Looking for lowest priced available but still good insurance. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone has.
  23. Hey all, We recieved our nomination on the 11th of May. currently compleating the visa and hope to get it sent off by friday. Anyone know anything about police checks? I am a teacher and will be teaching preschool in ACT. I am getting ready to send off my FBI check to the US just in case I need it! hoping I dont!!! Also trying to figure out custody papers for my OH 2 kids. We are submissting a 1229 form with just his information becuase he has sole custody of the kids. The mom has not seen her kids in 5 years and has no custody or visitation. anyone know if this is right? hope so! loving POMS BTW. Really good information!
