    Which diet do you recommend?

Only seeing this thread now! Norfolk gal- I'm a nutritionist but at home we used calories too - easy calculation to get from kJ to Kcal (or calories as we call them) is divide by 4! The hard part of weight loss is being and staying motivated and committed to maintaining your goals. The nutrition part isnt the hard part- we all know if we eat cake, take away everday and large portions we wont loose weight. You have to eat enough food to maintain your weight, eating more will cause you to gain and obviously if you eat less than you need to maintain your current weight the weight will come off. Weightwatchers and slimming world are great-(not because they take ££ off you though or sell their products) but because they make you accountable for what you have been doing to help yourself loose weight. Cheap ways to do this are * recording what goes over your lips - yes everything, you will lie, you need to be honest with yourself though *get family members on board to encourage you and keep tabs on you. * dont bring the rubbish food into the house- if you see it you will eat it- I am guilty of this too!! * Stay away from take aways - my other half asked me to work out what he should be eating in a day (he is a skinny chocoholic and always questioning my work). I explained how many calories (kJ) he could eat to maintain his weight. He was quite happy with this then asked me so, can i eat that in Oporto chicken burgers?? The answer is yes you can eat the calories for the day in burgers but you will only get about 4 and you will be very hungry for the rest of the day!! Take away foods are "dead" foods, they provide very little nutrients other than fat. If anyone wants a push and doesnt want to do the classes I would be more than happy to Skype/talk to them once a month to motivate and encourage them (or tell them off for being naughty). I'll do it for free too PM through here

    Nutritionists

Hello there Just wondering if there are any nutritionists on the forums. I know there a loads of dietitians out there but what about those of you who aren't eligible for APD accreditation? * have you joined the NSA or other organisation * have you managed to get public liability/ prof indemnity insurance * are you in private practice/ self employed? * researcher/ community health or other occupation! I'm based in the Sydney area (Sutherlandshire) and would love to meet up with other Nutritionists (or dietitians) in Sydney Thanks Dr Shellsparkles (Michelle)
  8. Hello there all you soon to be residents of Australia One of my neighbours'-daughters is renting out her family home in Miranda, which is in the Sutherlandshire, NSW. She had offered it to myself and my other half however, we are looking for a more permanent base here in Engadine Up for grabs for 9 months only so it may suit some of you "freshies" Its got three bedrooms, so would suit a family. My neighbour said her daughter would take a couple of families if they wanted to share the property. The rent is $650-670 furnished although it depends what furniture she has to provide. The bond would be 4 x what ever the final rent is agreed at. She is willing to considering letting it unfurnished too. Miranda has a big west field and the very popular "paddy's irish bakery" which services all us "paddys in oz" with the usual baked yummies from home. Its also a short hop on the train to the Cronnulla beaches!! If your interested Pm me and I can give you her number! I hope this is of some help to someone - I know how stressed out I was coming here knowing I only had a couple of weeks to secure a "home" Michelle

    Rentals in Sydney

Hey there! Sorry to hear you have had no luck yet! We moved over in early december too and found a real bargain rental in "the shire" for 3 months. House hunting will begin soon again though- although at least we will have some more rental history. Any way I was about to post this in another thread but if you are interested in taking a place in the shire my neighbours daughter has a place for rent for 9 months (pm me sure or look at the thread started by me). Best of luck in your house hunting!!
  10. Hello there!! Just noticed this thread! I'm in the Sutherland Area - anyone else around here fancy a meet up? More than happy to pop into the city though if thats where everyone is hanging out!
  11. Harvey88 thats great! I had mine granted in September and following a frantic episode of writing my thesis and packin a house up we arrived in Sydney on the first of December ! I love it here, get the odd pang of home sickness but waking up every morning and thinking 20-25oC is cold (instead of 0oC!). Good luck to all of you who have applied recently- it is purely a waiting game. Your CO's are very helpful- they want to help you through the process but they are very very busy! If I can help anyone - send me a PM, i'm not on very much now (due to a large amount of time just chilling out!). Merry Christmas everyone!
  12. Hello there all you guys and girls waiting for their spouse visas to be processed!! Just a quick visit to see if any of the 2012 visa gran crew are still lurking about online or are indeed in oz yet???

So we are all arrived in Sydney (what happened to the Sun btw?) Car bought, house lease starts on Thursday, just need to get an electricity supplier sorted. We only have a 3 month lease on the property so 12/24 month deals are out. Who do you recommend? Who don't you recommend?? Thanks in advance! Michelle

Wow ! Hello! Haven't been on in a while - been flat out! Visa confirmed September, thesis completed 2 weeks ago, final exam 20th, a hurried 23kg x2 pack up of the house will follow and we'll be on the big metal bird on the 29th!!!! I am so excited now, scared, excited aghhhh
  15. Awe thanks so much. Sometimes the enormity of it gets too much. I keep telling myself everything is going to be ok. I think I just had a bit of a wobble earlier on:biggrin:
