  1. i was told by immigration the police Certs must be valid at time of application submitted not the time they look at it! Mine have expired since submission in October so I'm hoping this is not required, can I ask what country were the police Certs required for?
  2. When you submitted the application was your police check still valid? Mine has expired since submission of application in October but I was assured by immigration it must be valid at time of application only? I haven't left Oz since I arrived
  3. 4. We fly to Melbourne on January 6th and I left work yesterday morning............... It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do! I love my job and love my friends and colleagues and have been in tears since AND then my son finished school today and the children made a collage for him with photos and messages. All the kids came up to hug him and me, and tears were shed by all including his teacher! I have been so positive and organised about this move but have found it very difficult today with my wobbles which I know is to be expected but my god emotions really get you up and down!!!

    Where to live

I am moving to Melbourne in January working as a midwife, when I researched areas the eastern side is more expensive for housing and rentals and made it less affordable. Compared to the west side which seems more reasonably priced with modern housing so less established but lots of building work going on and my husband works in the construction industry so should be easier to find work!
  6. Send it to Darwin they process is super fast! Avoid Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and just go through everything to ensure you have it all there, documents must be notarised by a public notarty not a solicitor. Good Luck I fly Jan 6th will be working at Sunshine Hospital

  14. Fantastic read ...... we arrive in Melbourne 11th January myself, husband and 2 children aged 10 and 15 years. I am excited and scared all in one been .....been planning it for so long and the last hurdle was handing in my notice officially at work, and I have since become a tad emotional about leaving my job and the lovely people I work with. Family are already planning their dates to visit which is good. My 15 year old is slowly coming round to the idea which is a huge improvement as he has always refused to go! which adds stress to the whole situation but we are getting there! Looking forward to our new challenge with its ups and downs!! Keep on with the updates xxx
  15. DIAC have agreed all requirments met and it WILL be approved on the 22nd September so I suppose I just have to wait till then! Assuming all your docs are acceptable you shouldnt have a problem with approval for Sept 3rd. Luckily for me my employers have extended my start date to 28th Jan so as soon as my visa is approved 22nd Septmebr I can resign and work my 3 months notice. And fly beginning of January!
  16. My medicals have been finalised and I have a start date of 22nd October but DIAC say they wont approve until 22nd Septmebr 1 month prior to my start date, has anyone had the same have all yours been approved within 4 weeks of going? I have to give 3 months notice at work and cant until visa approved DIAC said only way to issue earlier is to ask employer to contact them advising an earlier start date! They have also said our insurance is not sufficient as it doesnt state the childrens names. Its with our joint bank account so details mine and my husbands and states our children are covered - I stressed to DIAC that thru ID check birth and marriage certs we have proved the chldren are ours but they said NO not good enough! So we have to take out further insurance to satisfy them and make sure this one states the childrens names!! Grrrrr
  17. DIAC say its to protect the employer?? Unless my employer advises them of an earlier start date he wont approve until 22nd sept but I geuss your right if he was going to reject he would have done so! I think I have a pedantic case officer as he has since advised my insurance is not acceptable as it does not state the childrens names. It states mine and my husbands and a paragraph stating our children under the age of 16 years are included. We have proved the children are ours through birth and marriage certs etc but he said NO the certificate muct have their name on it too. Our insurance is with our bank they say they cannot detail children individual names as the insurance matches the joint account holders names only and theyve provided the same letter to 1000's of people and its always been sufficient for immigration. We now have to take out further insurance with the childrens names documented to get the visa! Our house is being sold prior to the visa issued which is causing me so mush stress and worry but I have no choice if we lose the buyers now then we cant go to Oz!
  18. Can you help clarify. Applied for 457 Visa everything received and finalised very straighforward! DIAC wont approve until 22nd Sept which is 4 weeks prior to my contract starting However I am selling my house and would like peace of mind that visa approved before completion of sale mid september DIAC stated only way to approve earlier is ask employer to provide earlier start date I can do that no problem However once visa approved I have to work my notice which is 3 months the closer this gets to xmas means we will delay start date till January employers happy to keep job open to end of Jan that way we can emmigrate and kids start school for the new academic year rather than move and have no school for almost 2 months and less chance of meeting friends. My dilemma is if I ask the employer to bring the start date forward for the sake of visa approval do I have to fly before that start date or is the visa valid for 4 years from then with no clauses of latest time to enter the country etc.
  19. Caroline That woudl be great! I also have a 10 year old who will be going into year 6, Jan 2013 who is keen but scared with the move! Normal feelings Id say! Cheers
  20. Caroline, Thanks for your reply. Its very reassuring to hear your kids are happy in such a short time of moving! Our plan was to go November but since realising the schools go from prep-yr 9, It seems silly to start my eldest in year 9 for all of one month and then have to change schools and far more unsettling for him. So my employer is happy for us to go in January and he can start year 10 with everyone else! It would be great if your daughter could introduce him to ozzie life, I'll be in touch nearer the time if you dont mind? Thanks
  21. Caroline, Can you give me any further advice on schools for my 10 and 15 year old as I have been researching the schools your children go to? In terms of settling in were they both keen to move? My 15 year old due to go into Yr 10 in Oz (Jan 2013) really does not want to go which is worrying but we do feel he will benefit and fingers crossed will learn to enjoy it!
  22. We were quoted £3800 by PSS that was negotiating it down from £4100 to fill a full container but was told our cubic feet was approx 763. Why are the quotes so different ADE72 you paid £3700 Lozzachino you paid £2750 thats a huge difference between the 2 of you? We are going from Surrey/Hants Borders to Melbourne.... waiting for John Mason and White and Co to quote?
  23. I can relate to this we are off to Melbourne at the end of the year, Our 14/15 year old wouldnt even discuss going, he's been adamant hes not going! So we decided to stop talking about it because it was having such a negative impact on him. Now hes very quiet when we mention things like "When we in oz!" I'm hoping he's realising he has no choice and coming round to the idea! It's very difficult and worrying but I firmly believe he will benefit from the move but I know he's going to give us a rough time of it!! Our 10 year old is more positive about the move but its reassuring to hear we are not the only ones experiencing this!
  24. I would be interested in your shipping quote mines £3827 after haggling on a full 20ft container ?
