  1. I would get a Honda anyday ---take a pic according to the spec u need--but they are soooo very reliable.
  2. To be honest I was quite overwhelmed by the amount of stuff that landed. I left the front lounge free of clutter but it almost took up all the other space in the house. I couldn't get my head round to asking them to unpack all the rest as there I was wondering where I'm going to put it all. A bit dumb on my part but there you go.
  3. Hi there, we had ours delivered last week and they just unpacked some of the kitchen stuff and left saying they were very busy that day. Came at 7.30 and left around 9.30 after delivering about 800 cu ft of stuff. I'm still unpacking to this day. They too were supposed to do a full unpack service.
  4. Our deepest condolences dear. Just hoping that you may get him back home ASAP and lay him to rest. Take care.
  5. So so sorry to hear this Salma, our prayers are with your family. Take care and have a safe journey. May God be with you.
  6. 1. Mangoes 2. The warmth. 3. The sun (i can see it) 4. The blue sky 5. The fish (variety of)
  7. No probs with Singapore Air. They are the coolest guys. On 457 they even give you 30 k if you ask nicely while booking. We took email printouts and visa email printouts-- but they were never queried anywhere. Wasted trees!
  8. Hi there, I'm not sure if someone has already answered your queries as I haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if I'm repeating. take all medical records with you, all records of diagnoses, medication, any treatment plans you are on etc. When you reach there you can register with a GP. I'm not sure if you have private insurance but most people in the Uk don't except if you're rich, or have it thru work. So if you need to see a consultant make sure you impress upon your GP why you need to see one. If you want to pm me with any details and I can advice you further. One thing to remember is that it's very difficult to see consultants in the UK compared to Oz where any GP will refer you to the doc of your choice. With re. To taking meds on the plane a copy of the script would do, though I've never been asked to even open the cases on arrival- so don't worry. hope this helps.
  9. We've just done the house search circus. There are a few good high schools in Kogarah I've heard. Not entirely sure if there's for boys or if its entirely a girl school. We looked at areas in oyster bay, como and jannali which are in Sutherlandshire and they have tran links to the city but I imagine travel times from there would be closer to 45 mins than half an hour. Oatley is another good area but a house would set you back more than 800 quid a week. Beverley hills, penshurst etc are more reasonable but expect anywhere upwards of 500 / 600 for a half decent place. But you can get a reasonable place within 700 if you're not too fussed about the space. We saw a few excellent homes- 3 bed ones-- but absolutely no extra room. Kitchen dining lounge all combined plus the 3 beds. The Eastern suburbs and the North shore are great areas - I've heard, but pricey.Revesby/ panania/ Padstow are up and coming areas with good train links and local amenities. Ok if you're not too bothered about being close to the beach. And you can get spacious homes within 700. But as the above posters said your budget is crucial. Not simply what you can afford, but more importantly what you want to spend.
  10. Good post and thanks for sharing. I love reading these kinds of posts!
  11. The highlight of 2012 should surely be the word 'Travel' for me. This whole year we were caught up in all the processes of moving down under---realms of paperwork. Hadn't seen much of Europe before so made two trips--One to Paris earlier in the year and another to Venice, Padua etc. Lots of travel within Britain. Visited London twice or more. Been to the paralympics. Then to Sydney. Visited a couple of cities in India in between--all in all its been a year of mega journeys. I wouldn't mind not seeing a plane for the next 5 years to be honest--just sick and tired of travel. Also sick and tired of house moves --3 or 4 this year alone. On the positive side there hasn't been a year like this where I could taste and feel so many different cuisines and cultures. On the whole I should say its been a very exciting year--full of hopes and aspirations. Its upto 2013 to deliver now.

  20. you're right- PR is Permanent Residence. DRC stands for decision ready checklist-- basically a PR application where the employer sponsors you and a migration agent ensures that all the documents are submitted -- this is supposed to make the whole process quicker but in our case it took several months.
  21. Finally! Yes, finally, after months of an interminable wait for a DRC application, our PR came through yesterday. OH was also caught by the camera police for over speeding on the way to work. So all in all the day evened out I should say. They let him off with a caution as it was his first offence. That's a good thing I suppose. Anyway it was a UK licence so I guess they wouldn't have been able to take it off him. Spent the evening searching for a good Indian restaurant for dinner but finally ended up at Akash restaurant run by a Fijian at Liverpool. His medium spiced Biriyani burned a hole in my mouth. Otherwise not too bad but nothing to write home about other than the price which was quite reasonable. Tried explaining to the kids what a PR was and finally realised its not an easy concept-- is it? Have to go to centrelink in the morning to update on our new status!
  22. Hi there, I don't know where you live but from what my GP OH says it works like this. You need to go and see a GP and he then refers you to the Orthopod of your choice. If the doctor bulk bills then you won't have any extra to pay but if its private billed then I think a top up applies. Consultants need the patient re referred every year. Billing with Consultants is quite different I think as most see patients privately I am told, except for when you go into the hosp as an inpatient.
  23. Hi there. It's easy to give advice:xmas23: so here's mine-- if you ARE feeling emotionally vulnerable and need a bit of a time out and space then go home-- to Oz. If you feel you need to fill your life with living instead then go to London.
  24. If you are going to be living in the same area then the temp address is more than enough. But the question is will they give admission whilst the child is still out of the country. The admission process is pretty straight forward and you should be able to enroll him within a week of coming so don't worry.
