  1. . . A few images as to what visitors may see if they decide to take a look. A warning: Unless you are there at 4am don't expect to find a place in the car park. It is the same size it's been for the last 23 yrs and there are no plans to extend it. The reasoning is that no matter how big they make it, it will always be full and never big enough to cope with the visitors. Park in the town (early arrival essential in season and holidays) and walk up to the park, or park in the side streets en route although some of them have a 2hr limit. Bye-laws prevent sleeping in vehicles on roadside or car parks with heavy fines for offenders................blame the dirty, messy backpackers who have no respect for the environment. Wear good joggers or boots. This is the result of wearing thongs. Shot from a kilometre away a casualty evacuation due to a badly sprained ankle................it's only a sprain (you may say) but depending on where you are, it could be a 7 kilometre limp back Medical Evacuation Noosa National Park (1) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (27) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (26) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (23) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (20) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (17) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (15) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (14) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (11) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (9) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (7) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Noosa National Park (4) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr This post has been promoted to an article
  2. Not dooable I'm afraid as there's not much life in the northern burbs other than Chermside area. If you want to live in the city which is very lively, you'd be stuck with the commute. An outer suburb such as I am in (Bracken Ridge) has a half hourly train service from bald hills station and a 15 min bus service to the city and you are never more than a few minutes walk from a bus stop. The train takes 30 minutes to city No bus to caboolture but the same train that will. get you into the city in 30 mins, will also get you to caboolture in the same time
  3. The simplest way to avoid any likelihood of con or stereotyping is not to answer the door They can stand there all day knocking, even if my door is open but fly screen door locked, and unless they say "police" I don't answer. That way, I can't build up a stereotypical profile of Salvos. Mormons, Jehovas, Irish or whatever. :-)
  4. My grand daughter loves pythons, especially the albino ones :-) She also likes strange hair ties :-) Albino Burmese Python - See my album "Jade's Journey" by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr 1904278_10203471786743225_190438593_n by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr
  5. Employers may offer you a sponsorship "deal" offer but when then time comes and your WHV expires................what have you got? a sponsorship or a broken promise utilised to get you to work for them? They are under no obligation to sponsor once your WHV runs out................and yes.............Aussie employers can be as unscrupulous as those in the Uk when it comes to looking for cheaper labour.
  6. True. You're behaving like a normal Perth resident as opposed to a very bitter pom who, after returning to his/her loving homeland, is so "home and happy" that they have nothing more to do than remind us of how unhappy they were here.......................so happy that they have to dwell on how unhappy they were?................rather strange or what?
  7. As much as I love Oz, the above I do miss. The Lakes or Skye, and their hamlets, at any time of the year is wonderful, but looking from a (designated) viewpoint anywhere in Qld, (that I have visited) at any time of the year, just doesn't cut it with me. Out of order here (possibly) but deforestation can lead to wonderful views but unfortunately, whenever I follow a "designated viewpoint" sign in Oz, all I see is growth in front of that viewpoint...........lack of maintenance or pandering to greenies I have no idea, but it's been like that since first I set foot in Oz. I sometimes wonder how disappointed tourists must be following the "beaten track" as designated by tourist board and google? I have to admit, that to experience Oz you have to ignore "viewpoints" and find your own, no matter what the weather.
  8. Remaining relative carks it by then? Seems like a wonderful visa likely having some input from the Hanson Brigade.
  9. If you're the only remaining relative you could apply for a relative visa
  10. The 5 is the only one portraying the Queen by the way so they'll never phase it out
  11. We had a similar experience when the kids were very young and just toddling. Both of them were very fair, blonde hair and blue eyed. We were visiting Mt Coot-tha botanical gardens and we must have been asked 20 times by Chinese and Japanese if they could have their photos taken with the boys. They were ever so gentle with them and all of them hugged the boys before thanking them. Some of them even looked over their shoulders with a wave and smile as they were moving on, almost as if they were departing family
  12. No, the Qld Gov't is just more clued up about the dangers of unsealed plugs, but yes also because there is a risk that some people just are stupid enough to get it wrong, whether in Qld, NSW or any state/country and they do get it wrong. Many domestic fires are reputedly caused by wires inside plugs "working loose" and these are the common causes (familiarity can, and does breed contempt) The sheath stripped too far back and single insulated conductors exposed out of the plug. Seen it many times Not enough sheath insulation removed so that the wires cannot be properly secured and the tension is taken up by the termination. Ditto Wiring Strands not properly twisted and terminated Incorrect tools used, causing damage to the terminations or damaging wiring strands. Wires connected to the wrong terminals Yup! It does happen even with instructions on the plug.........a moments distraction by someone talking to you whilst fitting the plug
  13. Because they sell them for tradies and it isn't their obligation to warn anyone of state laws
  14. Care to state which local rag Zack just so we can check and reassure ourselves that this isn't just one more of your Anti-Australian rants. I'll take it that no reply means that you're bullshitting but I'll also be only too happy to apologise if you can prove it.
  15. And just how many years has it taken you to realise that Zack?
  16. He conjures up all sorts of scenarios and "facts" to justify his miserable state of mind, be it here, or in the UK. Blames his unhappiness on his location no matter where he is. I've yet to see one "upbeat" post from him no matter where he's living.
  17. Don't spoil his fun. "Misleading" is all that he seems to live for. When he was in the UK he misled folk about the state of the UK, now he's back here, he does the same misleading that he did before he went to the UK. What's the betting that once back in the UK, there'll be more misleading
  18. I beg to differ in that the warranty issue relates not just to the warranty of the item that you are changing the plug on. It relates to other items that may be damaged by the failure of an unsealed plug. Much more importantly, any faulty home improvement, including self fitted plugs, that causes damage to the home, including total loss by fire, will void your insurance. If you think it easier/cheaper to change a plug, rather than buy an adapter, which may put you at risk of losing your home, with no chance of replacing said home with insurance payout, then go ahead and do it.
  19. Wrong footed there Joji. Apologies from Newjez about white space, met with what seems like sarcasm, whilst you expect your apologies about paragraph formatting to be met with consideration?
  20. No need for apologies. Takes time to find your way around a forum and it's "buttons"
  21. You also need to hit the "quote" button so we know who you're replying t Forget paragraph formatting if you struggle with it. Just hit..................when you feel you need to take a breath and the reader likely will too. I do it all the time, despite, (I'm told), scoring 95% in my only GCE sat, which was English Language in the Army. I'm a stickler for commas though :-)
  22. spot on! Should all be "mechanised" for want of a better word but some surgeries are behind the times. The doc charges whoppetty whop, the gov't pays him whippety whip, you dab your card at whoppetty whop and you automatically get credited with the difference between the two into your bank account. It all started as a rebellion by GP's who said that whippety whip wasn't enough for a consultation so they upped their fees thinking the Gov't would meet their demands for whoppety wop..........they didn't so that is now "The Gap" which you get refunded. GP's who still charge whippety whip (bulk bill) are often viewed with suspicion as just being "client gatherers" whose experience/skill/knowledge wouldn't afford them the client base if they charged more. Not necessarily the case as they may consist of a young knowledgeable (new generation) empathetic practitioner base averse to the establishment. That said, they could also consist of a practice who, albeit having Australian recognition, be comprised of migrant GP's with "less than ideal" qualifications or who have cultural differences. How many times have I heard, here and in the UK "that Indian Doctor was really abrupt"? Sometimes they have to bulk bill to attract clients, whereas without bulk billing, they'd struggle.
  23. I've never signed anything other than the receipt for the gap payment (years ago) and that doesn't even happen now. The GP hits "send" (I'm guessing) on his computer, as i leave his room, and by the time that I arrive at the receptionist's desk, she hands me a receipt as my bank details are already lodged with the surgery
  24. So your problem lies with the individual doctor not the health care system, despite what you will do your best to imply
