  9. None from Niger?..............do they have internet? :-)
  10. Yes, her father was an British officer exchange with an Australian officer at Cerberus. He actually brought over the (I think it is) a minesweeper given to Oz now in the maritime museum in Brizzy subsequently renamed the Diamantina. Her birth cert showed Frankston but if the peninsula where the naval base was located is lovely, as you say, I still wouldn't understand her wanting to retire there as she lived in a small holding above the cliffs looking down on Looe harbour in Cornwall..................some folk are never satisfied i guess
  11. Pity you won't get a chance to enjoy your profit due to asbestosis ;-) Frankston was a pretty nice place 50 yrs ago (apparently) . My ex was born at the Naval base there and despite her mother being an officer class snob of the highest order, she always said that she would like to retire there.............luckily, she died 15 years ago in the UK and never got to see what it had become :-)
  12. I was a serving soldier at the time the "troubles" kicked off......................anyone who couldn't see the inequality and gerrymandering must have been blind..............of course, soldiers are expected to be blind................do your duty...................me, I did my duty in Aden, awoke politically and when Ulster came up as a posting, I got out, much to the disdain of mates I'd served with since age 15..............some since, after their 22 yrs service which included Iraq, have caught up with me via FB recognising that they were (a simplification of what they said to me) "just tools" but "at the time I didn't even think about politics as the Army was my livelihood".............It's strange that confronting and killing gaelic/celtic brothers who were discriminated against beyond belief, never raised an eyelid back then, indeed, some even welcomed it when it "kicked off" because they wanted to get to grips with the enemy without sparing a thought for why they were the enemy.................Perhaps seeing the plight of the average Iraqi coupled with their personal subsequent maturity as compared to Ulster, changed their whole outlook on life? Others that I served with, who are UKIP supporters, still hold me in disdain.....................Do I give a f#ck? Not at all. I stayed true to my convictions and at an earlier time in history, I would have been taken out and shot at dawn, but, what comforts me, is that some of those buddies that I "deserted" and felt enormous guilt at the time for so doing, may have taken 40 yrs to catch up with me, but at least it shows that latterly in their life, they have been thinking about my convictions at that time and seem to have forgiven me. What really makes me happy, is not only that they have caught up with me, and appreciated my "leanings" at that time, but that they have caught up with the machinations of Gov't/politics and how the latter saw them as dispensible in the furtherance of capitalist goals................IOW, how the youth of nations, is "funneled" into the capitalist war machine either via brainwashed nationalism or unemployment Hopefully, they won't let their kids fall into the entrapment of unemployment that led my peers at age 15 to join up and be on the streets of Ulster at age 17 and they will guide them into further education or whatever it takes to prevent them from the conflicts that only ensures the perpetuation of capitalism and not the furtherance of better conditions for the working classes
  13. See my response above. No law broken as long as the 16 yr old is classed as "responsible". I got some grief once because I left my kids for an hour whilst I went to the shops with a 17 yr old foster kid. To all intents and purposes, this kid was like an older sister to mine and had never been any trouble................but.....................she just happened to have an unscheduled visit from her Child Safety Officer whilst we were out. THE CSO rang us later to tell us that we could be liable, as a child in care, by virtue of the fact that she came from an abusive background, could be considered as not "reliable and mature" under the current regs.
  14. Good for you Gal and good luck for the future. You're not the same lass that used to post with a same (or similar) name years ago are you? If so, welcome back.
  15. Here in Qld Liquorland ((Coles) and BWS (Woolworths) bought up all the independent bottle shops. They didn't exist in their current name when I arrived 22 yrs ago. There was a move to sell alcohol other than in bottle shops but it was quashed by the pressure from the Christian lobby groups. It's not so long ago, less than 10 yrs, that you couldn't even access a bottle shop on Sunday on Northside Brizzy and you could only buy alcohol through the drive ins and they didn't open till 10am and shut at 3pm
  16. When a person under the age of 18 years (for example, an older brother, sister or teenage friend) cares for children, the question of negligence or liability could arise. As a parent you may be held responsible for the carer, as well as your own children, if something goes wrong. For these reasons it is better that carers are adults (over the age of 18 years). A carer who is still legally a child (that is, under 18 years) would not be judged against the standards of responsibility expected of adults. If you decide to leave your children in the care of an older brother or sister or other young person, you must be sure that they are reliable and mature. Ask yourself, ‘Could this child cope with an emergency such as a fire, an accident or a break-in?’. If your child is left alone without a ‘carer’, he must be older than 12
  17. Unless you bomb every single bugger that has the idea in their heads
  18. Poor buggers.................RSI from all that computer work, stapling their fingers,...............or anxiety/depression from workplace bullying?
  19. I've seen an increase in rental sharing in the last few years evidenced by the amount of cars in driveways which generally indicates that the garage is being utilised as living space. I have a rental property next door to me, initially occupied by a single mother and her teen son with no cars in the drive...................6 months on and it now has 4 cars on the drive and lawn, all with P plates on................they rarely move from those positions which indicate to me that they are either not seeking, or not obtaining employment, which is rather sad. OTOH, they are not a spot of bother with no loud music etc and I assume that the only way the mother can survive is to take a "donation" from her son's friends centre link payments.............she works as well which makes it even more concerning that she has to resort to this to make ends meet. OTOH, it pisses me off that despite all those young adults in residence, their grass, which rarely gets cut, creeps through my fence and the only way I can shift it is to hand weed as I have hedges to the fence.................it's pretty hard to show consideration/empathy for others when they are infringing on your own lifestyle, or again, perhaps not, and all that illustrates whenever they piss me off, is that I'm a grumpy old bastard
  20. You sound determined and your time frame seems open in order to achieve that goal. With that in mind, I would say retrain as a healthcare professional, in particular nurse, as they are always on the SOL. Not necessarily on the state that you want but you could always relocate once here.
  21. Think I've got it. The share box had changed my normal setting of 1024 size to "original" I've changed it back and this one should work. I never would have thought to look there as I didn't change it so it must have changed during a flickr uodate or something? Thanks for your help LongleatLC5A8767 by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr
  22. Yes, that's what I'm doing. Copying the BB code and inserting. I'll try a different pic Australian Tiger Dragonfly by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr No good?????
