  1. My advice is to go straight to centre link on arrival and they will advise you on what your entitlements are ., With Pr you will definitely have some entitlements so ensure this a priority on arrival
  2. We knew from our agent that we had to have written consent from the non emigrating parent at the start of our visa application when my daughter was 14 years old .. We also knew that my husband was never going to give his consent so we went to a solicitor after we knew we were eligible for a visa and had all the relevant documents in place for a skilled migrant visa . We just needed consent to remove our daughter from England then we could submit our application so we put it on hold .It was a very lengthy and costly process involving Caffcass officers and court hearings that took nearly two years. The concern to the courts rightly so was the effects it would have on my daughter removing her permanently to another country away from her father , extended family etc . We had to put together a case building a portfolio of why it was in her best interest to emigrate with us . Basically we was asked why we do we need to emigrate ? Why do we need to separate my daughter from her father ? We eventually had another court hearing when my daughter was at this point 16 years of age . The judge asked why my child's father was not represented with a solicitor .And why has this case gone on so long , and why are we even here , the child is 16 years of age and can leave home legally .. He suggested my husband get a solicitor if he wanted to take this case further but considering the child is 16 years of age it would be pretty pointless and a waste of his money . We had a signed declaration the following week but think we only got it due to her age . Dread to think how much longer and how much more costly and what outcome we would have had if our daughter was younger .. Good luck to everyone going through removal of jurisdiction or gaining parental consent it can be a long expensive rocky road but well worth it in the end
  3. I would seek advice from a solicitor ., where kids are concerned and the non emigrating parent is unwilling to co-operate In my oppinion it's the safest option
  4. In my oppinion age is a number and only a problem when you cant do something you want to do because your age determines you are not allowed I.e cut off age for applying for a visa...dont let age determine your choices until it restricts them for you
  5. I know of a few familys that stayed in the same holiday village as us when they arrived and all managed to get everything up and running during there stay ,three weeks should be ample time ..securing a rental that suits you is probably the hardest task at the beginng along with a job but the rest is very straight forward ..thing is you can just try extend your stay if a suitable rental is not found ..I would ask when booking your 3 weeks about extensions for a heads up ..as that is what we did and we just paid week to week until our rental was ready .we stayed in what they class as a long term rental .. It was very dated lol but heaps cheaper and meant we could save the price difference to pay for other things .they are not for everyone lol but we figured as it was only for a short term we were prepared to downgrade to save some funds as during the settling in period n buying the necessaries until your shipment arrives and securing jobs (if you coming like us without one) your bank balance gets an hammering
  6. when we was going through our visa process my daughter was still at school as our dependant, but when our visa was granted my daughter was at uni , living with students and had a part time job ..she was rejected on our visa as she was no longer considered as a dependendant . She will now have to enter on her own skills independently .

  11. We too are in Oxenford but on the border of pacific pines , have friends in Coomera ,paradise point ,runaway bay , Helensvale , biggera waters and southport all what I class as northern Gold Coast and all have children in various state ,schools and all happy with them . I also have friends in what I class as the southern Gold Coast Ie robina , currumbin , mudgeerba ,worongary ,varsity lakes and equally happy with them .i guess what I'm trying to say is where ever you land in the Gold Coast you have the opportunity to make it work for you . work opportunities may depict however whether it is the north or south where you live but either way you will live on the Gold Coast and and enjoy all what is on offer
  12. Can only speak for Queensland but if you've got PR then centre link will help out immensely especially for under 5 years old
  13. I suggest you see a registered migrant agent as they will be best to advise you
  14. In my opinion I would always use a registered migrant agency as they have all the up date information
  15. To break the cycle of following on in past generations of growing up , working , marrying , having kids in the same town .Our family tree will now branch off significantly instead of just re rooting in one town
  16. In my opinion he is best consulting a migrant agent . Money well spent for professional advice for an apprentice served mechanic . He doesn't want to jeopardise his chances for a skilled migrant visa if he has a chance of successfully gaining it
  17. We are in Oxenford on the border of pac pines and the border of Helensvale only 5 mins away .Helensvale( Westfield shopping centre / train station ) You are straight on the motorway to Brisbane which is most likely where your OH will find work . Around an 1hr depending on work is based . I personally wouldn't worry about situation to beach as I'm guessing due to work commitments , school etc this will be a weekend thing and within Gold Coast you can hit most beaches depending on situation but generally in around. 20 mins - 30 mins. This may sound a long commute but it is an easy straight forward run with lots of lovely places on the same strip .
  18. There will most probably be meet up groups in the area you live / or are looking to live in Australia , so a quick search on the Internet will pull loads up . For us the local pom meet up groups have been a god send but if you search your local suburb / intentended suburb you will get a feel for what groups are out there and can learn a great deal of what is going on in the community
  19. Hi my hubby is a machine tool fitter and we live on the Gold Coast .. He got a job within the first month of getting here working :twitcy:in Brisbane .. He commutes an hour each day to get to work as a field service engineer and have to say living in the Gold Coast is just fab for us . So depending on job availability you could still follow your dream of heading to the gold coast .Your hubby is more likely to get a job in the Brisbane area as the Gold Coast is very limited . you say your only an hour from Blackpool we are form West Yorkshire so probably not that far from our home town .
  20. She would never have quit her course nor would we have encouraged it . however if we knew what we know now she could have maybe quit her accommodation and commuted to Uni and quit her part time job then she would have been dependant on us . Unfortunately it's too late for us but maybe others whom are undergoing visa application and their child is going to university can learn from our mistake . We just never realised the implication of student loans and student accommodation with regards to dependency . On a positive note she gained a 1st in her primary education degree and got her first teaching post at an outstanding school and is fulfilling her own dream. Hopefully one day she may be able to apply for her own skilled migrant visa when she's got more experience under her belt.
  21. Congratulations and all the best on your new journey
  22. We sold our house in the Uk as we needed the equity for the big move and unfortunately ended up selling it alot cheaper than we wanted . We needed to activate our visa and when we weighed it up we figured for us it was best to take a lower offer than go out and activate our visa and come back and try and wait out for a better offer which may or may not have happened . We have no regrets even though we are still not in a position to buy a property over here and been here nearly two years . I do have friends that have rented their property out in the Uk and they have had no problems
  23. That was the problem in our case we couldnt prove we were financially supporting her over and above her student loans .because we wasnt .She took out a loan to cover the cost of her degree course and for accomodation and living expenses .So glad it worked out for you .
