1. Down on the South Coast costs per calendar month: Mortgage on 4 bed detached £1200 Elec/Gas average about £100 Water £40 Council Tax £169 Sky TV/unlimited broadband £47 Phone line (BT) £18 Shopping for 5 £750 Home insurance £33 Car insurance x 2 £44 Petrol/Diesel £80-100 Life insurance £100 Mobile phones x 2 £50 TV licence £13 Approx Tax/MOT/repair 2 cars £60 Days out/clothes etc £50 So approx total for family of 5 £2800 Obviously there are other expenses that are more one offs like Christmas/Birthdays etc I'm not completely sure if we have anything left after that lot !
  2. Totally irrelavent but just wanted to say I like your signature, might have to steal that idea !
  3. My wife is just closing down her very successful business here in the UK ready for our move after 2 years of making some fab cakes (some with my input too) and I'd say $80-100 is about right for a cake to feed about 30 with some 3d modelling on it - they are surprisingly time consuming ! If you want something truly unique then you have to pay for it I'm afraid, and of course then there's the taste - I can't eat shop bought cakes anymore, the preservatives etc they put in it just kill the flavour and free range eggs make a huge difference too ! This would be £95 for example and takes approx 14 hours to produce: And this around £120 and take about the same time:

I'll second Rammygirls' advice. Go through the Visa Wizard and see if you qualify for a skilled visa as they are by far quicker to obtain. http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/ Oh and if you do contact an agent they should do a telephone assessment for free, if not be very wary and do not pay them anything without a proper written and signed instruction/contract in place. Go Matilda and Visa Bureau are highly recommended by others.
  5. BMI over 40 is the unofficial limit but even if you are over that it depends on other tests like blood pressure etc. Don't worry too much.
  6. You need to complete this form and send to DIAC so they can move your visa onto the new passport (all electronic) http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/929.pdf
  7. Tea and biccies is all they'll get from us, this isn't the US where you have to tip everyone (and I only tip there if the service is well above par !) Ah, left over booze, great idea NWM !
  8. You can do things more than once............and with kids you tend to A LOT at their request !
  9. Just quoting the OP ! There are so many things to do see around me too but that comes with having a very long history naval and otherwise on my doorstep. Australia is still a relatively new country so will be vastly different.
  10. Exactly, we just have to trust that the airside personnel have had their security checks done properly and they are honest hardworking people !
  11. Post of the day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can anyone say it's the same as the UK......................bizarre !! :ssign2:
  12. Strange thread.............If you put valuables in your hold baggage then you are asking for them to get broken/stolen, I can't imagine anyone opening a suitcase to steals clothes and shoes ? I certainly won't be putting a laptop in mine or even the hard drives from my home PC, basically nothing of value.....................if you can't manage all your valuable items in your carry on you need to seriously cut down on your gadget obsession ! I have never locked my cases for these same reasons !
  13. Sorry to hear it's not the "dream" life you expected but to tell everyone else not to come is a bit OTT ! Let us make our own minds up when we arrive...................you make your own luck and we all make mistakes, for it is some moving countries !
  14. Great site link VERYSTORMY, found myself a job but in the wrong state.................dammit !
  15.

A bit late I know but Happy New Year to you and Dave. Hope things pan out this year for you both, I'll try to help you if I can when we finally arrive in Perth later in the year. Justin x

Sorry I don't know how long NT state sponsorship takes but most states take 4 - 8 weeks to process.

Tricky question as things do seem to have slowed a little after the 1st July changes.

I would suggest that the visa could take 3-6 months from lodging but times change all the time.

Congrats, stage one complete !

Mine was registered by TRA on 8/4 so a little while yet. Someone else I know on here just got theirs back after 16 working days so I'm checking every day !

  19.
I'll see if I can find a link to the new points test for you. It is still a draft but very likely to become the norm on 1st July. I don't need IELTS under the current test as I only need 6 and a British Passport gives you 6.5. If I don't make it before the 1st July I will need to get 8 on IELTS to get to 65 as I'm a bit old !

  20.
Maybe 3 weeks awaiting and 1 week to process ! LOL

  21.
Hi. I assume you are aware that time is VERY tight to get TRA, SS and visa app in before 1st July. Have you checked you can get enough points under the new test ?
