  1. Hi Adam - great post. I'm quite similarly skilled to you have CCNA, CCNA Voice, & half-way through my CCNP (am at CCNP level with good ASA experience). Consider myself to have pretty good inter-personal people skills! I'm a little worried however that the jobs you were offered from 55k? I'm on 30k GBP and was hoping to get a job (when moving to Sydney) starting at 75k (which ties in with the x2.5 salary rule of thumb) - I've seen a few network jobs in the 90k region advertised on Seek, which I have the skills for. Am I being unrealistic?
  2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the $18.60 that you should be dividing by 2.4 rather than the £11.60. So - £7.75 rather than £4.83 Or have I got it totally wrong?!
  3. I'm from the UK, but am lucky to have NZ citizenship I'm a mid-level Network Analyst with 5 years experience, so have my fingers crossed that I can land a job ok. It would be ideal to have one lined up before I leave the UK!
  4. Does this mean that you shouldn't register with agencies until you arrive in Aus?
  5. Cheers Stevie - good lad
  6. Thanks  Was it the overseas number you rang, rather than the link you pasted? http://www.ato.gov.au/corporate/content.aspx?menuid=4084&doc=/content/15754.htm&page=7&H7
  7. Hi All, I am from the UK, but with NZ citizenship. I want to go to Sydney to work within the next few months. Ideally I would like to get a job lined up before I leave the UK. To help my chances I thought it would be a good idea to have my Tax File Number validated and ready. I last worked in Australia 11 years ago, and still have my Tax File Number printed on a letter from the Australian Taxation Office. Is there an easy way to check that my number is still valid? Thanks in advance
  8. Have to say I've been looking at this. There is an expo in late March in London (which seems to be tailored towards healthcare, mining & engineering). I'm in IT, so not sure if this will be beneficial for me. There is another expo in Birmingham at the end of May which seems more open with regards employment trades. I'm thinking about attending that one but am being put off with people saying they are a waste of time! Is it possible to get a job lined up at one of these events? Cheers
  9. Interesting thread. I'm planning to head out to Aus (probably Sydney) in August, but am nervous about going without having something already lined up. Haven't really contracted before - may just have to keep my job in the UK and apply long-distance. Keep us posted on how you get on!
