  1. Hi all  I'm based in the UK at present and planning a move to Oz later this year. My husband works in the Engineering sector and his skills are on the Skilled Occupation List so we're applying for independent Permanent residency visas. I have worked as an IT Recruiter in the UK for the whole of my career. Work for my husband seems to be more prominent in WA so we are concentrating on the Perth area, but I'm not sure what the IT job market is like in WA? Does anyone know if there are many IT Recruiter jobs in WA and much work in the IT sector at all? I've looked on Seek and the majority of IT recruiter roles appear to be in Sydney and although I don't necessarily need to remain in the IT field because if you are good at recruitment you can apply your skills to any sector it would be useful to know what this market is like? Thank you for taking the time to read, Marie
  2. Hello All, I have been aggressively applying for IT jobs in Adelaide. It has been really tough. Not that easy to get through. I have gotten a Skype meeting setup with a recruitment consultant from a big IT recruitment agency in SA. I am not sure what to expect. I have spoken with lots of them in the US but I am really nervous and confused as to what to expect on this call. If someone has done this already, can you please shed some light on the same? It will be really helpful. Thanks.
  3. Hey, You'd be better off posting that here... http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/jobs-careers/153785-field-thread.html It helps to mention what it is you actually do as well. Regards, P.

    IT Skills in Demand Australia

Candidate shortages are evident in specialised areas of Australia’s IT market. Consequently candidates in demand are starting to push for longer term contracts or higher salaries as they are aware of their standing in the market. There is an ongoing need for Level 1 Helpdesk Support professionals. Poorly qualified candidates and those from other industries without relevant skills are applying for these vacancies. As a result, quality Level 1 candidates are in short supply, and companies now value and act to retain their quality support professionals. Demand also exists for true Level 2 Support professionals. There have been cases where inexperienced candidates have taken Level 2 positions, or where Level 2 candidates have prematurely gained System Administrator or Level 3 roles. Consequently quality Level 2 professionals are sought. Support candidates with Sharepoint experience and Solaris exposure are also sought. Such exposure at this level is rare and candidates with excellent customer service skills are in demand. In addition, candidates need to have the appropriate soft skills. This need for soft skills is evident across the market. While there are technically strong candidates available, employers also require staff with the appropriate level of communication and interpersonal skills. Level 1 and 2 support roles also require strong customer service skills, while the fit with the existing team is a high priority. Also in demand are Service Delivery Managers to provide structure and manage employee services at the customer end. Network Engineers continue to be in high demand, ranging from Cisco requirements to Linux and Unix. Skilled Microsoft System Engineers are sought, although most candidates seek further specialisation in technologies like Citrix, which further depletes the available candidate pool. Employers have high expectations of good solid experience in addition to the relevant certifications. We are also seeing high demand for Systems Engineers in VMware and Citrix as businesses move into the cloud. Storage Engineers are needed. Low turnover in this area creates demand for professionals who are willing to move. .NET Specialists are sought, although employers look for individuals who have experience working on similar projects or in the same industry. We have recently seen an increased movement back to Java and JavaScript as HTML5 is adopted by more businesses as a development platform. This is creating a need for Java and JavaScript specialists. Mobile App Developers (iOS/Android/Tablet) are sought as businesses quickly move to reach individuals on their mobile phone. Candidates are beginning to up-skill in mobile technologies since the software development market is moving in this direction. As businesses attempt to capitalise on the value of their data as best they can, we are seeing high demand for Business Intelligence / Data Warehouse Consultants. Business Analysts are in short supply due to the ongoing demand for high quality candidates combined with the fact that most good candidates are currently employed. Solution Architects are needed in large enterprises that are looking to start new projects. These vacancies are generally not replacements but rather newly created roles.

  9. Hi all,I will hopefully be getting my 176 Visa for a move to Melbourne soon and I wondered if anyone knew the best way to secure a job in IT over there :goofy:I have been assessed by the ACS...dont know if that makes a difference?Has anyone successfully got a job in IT in Melbourne? Is it worth posting your CV on websites in Oz before you go?What agencies do people recommend? Thanks alot guys
  10. I work in IT and have a skills asessment with the ACS as Computing Professional specialising in Data Warehousing. We are applying for SS for Victoria. As part of our research, I have been sending my resume to a number of recruitment agents who specialise in IT. However, I have had no replies as yet. We have heard that recruiters aren't keen on talking to people until they have secured a visa and are in Oz (we understand why they might work this way). Has anybody else come up against this BRICK WALL? Can anybody recommend an job agency specialising in IT who are helpful (and offer a glimmer of hope) to offshore candidates? Any information would be gratefully received. Many thanks The J Family
