  1. No idea although going off what you hear there was a lot ,hence rentals and homes are massively in demand in QLD and prices have shot up. I did a quick Google for you and found this (It is from August though) - "Queensland gained the most people from net interstate migration (+7,000) over the March 2021 quarter, while Victoria lost the most (-4,900), closely followed by New South Wales (-4,500)," the ABS noted. https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/thousands-leave-victoria-and-nsw-behind-for-other-parts-of-australia-with-qlds-population-surging/news-story/3ff9a99e9466d1b7e7cf3d21d8c7d7fd
  2. These figures were published a couple of months ago. '' Residents departing from Melbourne in the March quarter2021were most likely to settle in regional Victoria (44,100 people), but there are also large flows to New South Wales (19,900 people) andQueensland (20,300 people). The distribution of departures from Melbourne follows historical patterns, however the increase in the level of departures from Melbourne is the largest since the start of this series. https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/melburnians-head-for-the-country-and-brisbane-in-wake-of-virus-20210803-p58fij.html https://population.gov.au/docs/econote_prime_march_2021.pdf
  3. Well seeing as we have now resulted to personal comments and bickering despite you all knowing the rules we will close this thread.
  4. I am not aware of much construction on the North side other than up on the Sunny Coast where its developing like mad. South side is also developing with lots of new estates being built. Cal x
  5. Can we get back on topic and discuss that only or we will close the thread. Thanks Cal x
  6. Hi Lots of members have used Pet Air to get their pets here, Bob is always popping in to the forum to answer any questions too. Take a look at the Pet section of the forum, and Bobs contact details can be found in this thread -
  7. If you wish to discuss the difference in salary's between countries can you please start another thread and not take this one off track Cal x
  8. It cant be that bad if it made the news, many assaults, car jackings and criminal offences in the North of the UK where my family live dont even make news anymore because it happens wayyyyy to much. It very rare to see someone charged with drug use as its an every day occurrence. Same with burglary's, apparently you just don't report them anymore as police are too busy dealing with bigger stuff. Sad really. Cal x
  9. Posts have been removed ,this is not CTF quit the bickering please Cal x
  10. But until everyone here is vaccinated ,it really doesnt matter if those coming in are or not. Cal x
  11. Many new arrivals manage to rent without rental references so dont worry too much. Include a covering letter with all you applications stating you are new to the country hence lack of references. All the agent wants to know is you can pay the rent, so showing a copy of a healthy bank statement will work in your favour. You can offer 6 months up front as it looks good on you but agents are not allowed to take it. Hope this helps Cal x
  12. Regardless of the who, what where or why, the stats stand, there are more people living in Perth who are English or Irish born than in Sydney,. These people would have a better idea on living Perth than someone sat at the other side of Australia/ or the world who has never even lived there. You cannot discount them because they live in an area popular with Poms, lol,, how on earth do you know the OP or others who ask about WA don't want that exact thing... Cal x
  13. WOW, I was just looking at the population and despite the vocal ones on forums ''who would never live there'' ,i was shocked to read it has more UK and Irish people than Sydney. So it really cant be that bad. When reading negative comments ,ask yourself how many of those people have ever lived there, i would like to bet half havent. Perth's population is notable for the high proportion of British- and Irish-born residents. At the 2016 Census, 166,965 England-born Perth residents were counted, ahead of even Sydney (151,614), despite the latter having well over twice the population. Cal x
  14. Really try and find a relocation agent or someone who will inspect it for you, ive seem some lovely properties advertised for sale and rent over the years and they are not whats in the picture. One i went to even even the glass missing out of some of the windows! Just be careful and if anything book a holiday house or a cabin for a couple of weeks so you can see a house yourself. North Lakes isnt a bad area, its probably the closest type of living you would have to a UK estate. It was very popular with UK ex pats years ago but has built up loads since then and has pretty much everything you need on hand. Mango Hill is quite nice too. The massive downside is if you need to use the highway to commute, its a nightmare! Lots of luck with everything Cal x
  15. Do you have the security licence for the State you are looking at? I just did a quick Google and there seems to be a fair few jobs available, most stipulating a NSW or QLD security licence. Im not sure where you are at the minute or if these jobs would even sponsor but it maybe worth calling them to see (i say call as its too easy for company's to ignore emails) Static Security - COVID Duties - Trinity Corporate Solutions are urgently looking for retail guards for a number of busy sites in Sydney. Have a look through these links - https://au.indeed.com/Visa-Sponsorship,-Security-Guards-jobs?advn=5063596408640809&vjk=e9a864779405947e https://www.careerjet.com.au/search/jobs?s=+security+guard&l=Australia&radius=25&sort=relevance https://www.seek.com.au/jobs-in-trades-services/security-services/in-Queensland-QLD https://au.linkedin.com/jobs/security-officer-jobs?position=1&pageNum=0
  16. At least you have plenty of time for getting over jet lag and researching houses and areas, lol... Did you take your own laptops etc? If you want to look for cars etc Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace are quite popular at the moment, there is also car sales.com but they always seem a tad more expensive on there. Its good you can get groceries delivered, gives you a chance to buy goodies you really like, rather than just eating what's provided. What's the TV like, do you have sky or anything or are you stuck with good old aussie standard TV? Cal x
  17. Welcome to Australia. Lots of luck with your visa application and your stay in quarantine. If you get bored please feel free to keep this thread going about life in quarantine in WA as im sure it will be helpful to many still waiting to travel.. Cal x
  18. Can you take your own? Ipads, power banks, colouring books, crayons etc should do the trick. My DD was that age when we travelled and she had her own little case full of boredom busters.. Biggest trick was no sleep unless we are in the air,lol... Cal x
  19. I would imagine all the rooms/ cabins have air con and you cant ''go out;; anyway, so probably wouldn't matter if it was 5 degrees or 45. Cal x
  20. Well done and congratulations. Cal x
  21. Just to keep this thread on track, the OP is concerned about the distance to Europe where their family would be so before we go off on a Melbourne tangent ,i dont think it would alter if the OP had been to Melbourne or Cairns its still a long way from Europe. Cal x
  22. I think i asked the same question back before we moved,lol.. I was pooping myself!!! Took me a few months from arrival to settle down and stop worrying they were on every corner waiting to pounce, lol. Of course they are about but not something you would/ will see on a daily basis and i live semi rural . A good inside and outside pest spray of the house really helps too. Cal x
  23. Hi Sofia There are lots of places across Brisbane and the Gold Coast that are fantastic families. Are you aussie citizens or do you have a visa that allows you to move and work here? If not, looking into visa's would be your first step as some can take a year or two. Cal x
  24. You will be fine. Now if you had 5 brand new tents ,that might raise eyebrows, lol Cal x
  25. It can be in a morning or overnight, like most places in QLD it warms up a bit mid morning. Have a look at this chart - https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/australia/toowoomba/historic Cal x
