NowPerth
In the UK some mobile companies allow free calls and texts to other users on the same network. As there are 6 in our family this is a handy freebie to have. Does anyone know of any networks in Oz which allow the same on PAYG tariff? thombatt
Yes there are. These type of plans are pretty specialized,so you tend not to find them on websites, more have to go into a store. But don't kid yourself, nothing is free, especially in the telco world.
Quoll
Sure, I should think most of them do these days - here is Virgin's offer http://www.virginmobile.com.au/prepaid-plans/compare/ Looks like free V to V texts for most of their plans. Calls not free for most plans
Guest Beth101
Have a look at the Vodafone site. (vodafone.com.au) I am on a vodafone prepaid tariff (which is what they call PAYG in OZ). With every top up you get free minutes talk time and text on top of your top-up credit. The number of free minutes/texts increases with the amount you recharge (top-up). The biggest difference I would say from the UK is that most prepaid tariffs expire after 30 days, a couple after 60 days, however if you recharge again during that time your free minutes and texts roll over to the next month. They have a selection of text and talk and text/data/talk tariffs. Hope this helps
Alan Collett
Consider all having Skype accounts - Skype to Skype texts are free (so long as you all have data allowances). Best regards.
NowPerth
Thank you. I'll have to investigate that a bit. I think it may mean we have to have internet access on our phones which I don't think we all do at the moment. I might ask my teenagers although they may laugh at my ignorance (and at my old phone)! RockDr
We have phone/internet/mobile plan with optus. The mobiles have free calls up to five minutes to each other.
Guest littlesarah
Virgin do free calls & texts to other Virgin customers on their PAYG plans (and on their postpaid plans). They piggyback off Optus, so coverage is same as for them. Hubby & I are both with Virgin, and are happy with them (we were them in UK too, and were pleased with service we received). Alan Collett
Several of my friends in Geelong are saying the $29 offering from TPG (so long as you also have TPG broadband) is good value: http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.php I believe TPG also piggy-backs off the Optus network. Best regards.
Suzukiscottie
We have 5 Virginmobile phones in the household, all free calls, texts and MMS's between them. We don't need any landline internet service either because we get plenty of 3G service through the phones hotspot functions.
Guest GeorgeD
Vodaphone do unlimited free texts to any mobile in Oz on their PAYG $30 recharge. You can also use Skype (you need to buy another add on internet pack or maybe Skype Pack) which lets you make unlimited Skype calls from Oz to any Skype user in the world free of charge - this does not come out of your data allowance. Three used to offer free calls to other Three mobiles as well as free \skype calls. I don't think you can get any new Thee plans as they have merged with Vodaphone in Oz
