We brought some stuff over from the UK to Australia only to find it doesn’t work over here. We’re not intending to return & it would be a shame to throw them away, so is there anyone heading back to the UK who could make use of: a sodastream machine (takes a UK gas cylinder only) a camping stove (takes UK gas bottle fitting only) a digital radio (only picks up radio broadcasts in Europe) We don’t want any cash, just a good home where they might actually be used. The items are located in North Warrandyte, Melbourne, but we could potentially drop them eastern Melbourne or Geelong...

Are there any tax free savings schemes in Oz? In the UK we have ISA's (individual savings accounts) which let us save up to a limit each year the interest/income is then paid tax free. Looking at the ATO website I can't see anything similar but maybe I just don't know where to look.

Hey everyone! I'm heading to Australia for my first solo backpacking trip. There's a lot of information out there about backpacking Australia, but I wanted direct advice from people who have experienced Australia either by backpacking through the country or living there. Basically, my questions are: What are some free/cheap things to do in Australia? What is worth spending extra money on? What do you regret spending money on? And please tell me some of your amazing experiences in Australia - hiking a rainforest, scuba diving vs. snorkeling the GBR, parks you liked or didn't, quirky places not typically talked of... I honestly want to hear what everyone has to say about Australia! What's overrated or touristry, what should be seen but typically isn't... anything you'd like to mention! A bit about me is that I adore nature, so seeing the best rain forests/experiencing the Outback is important to me. Seeing wildlife would be awesome - I'm even considering shelling out $160 for a crocodile dive (has anyone done that?! Was it worth it?). Are the zoos worth visiting, or can you see wildlife outdoors anyway? I also love music and art, so any neat and cheap museums or outdoor art for free would be awesome to see. I realize this is really general, and if anyone doesn't want to share here, please feel free to PM me as well! I'm trying to get a ton if different ideas so I'm prepared for my WHV trip

Looking for experienced child carers to look after my nearly 4 year old daughter - in exchange for FREE room and most meals. Big room with double bed - can easily fit in another bed (or more!). Would suit single, couple, two friends, or single mum and child. House is in Paynesville, East Gippsland, Vic. A 2 minute walk to lake, with swimming beaches, bush walks, koala island... the list goes on! Need help with child care on Wednesdays & Friday IMMEDIATELY and throughout school holidays. I work from home, so will be close on hand to deal with any problems. Daughter is 4 just after Christmas, in to everything and very easy to entertain :-) I would love a little help with cooking, cleaning and gardening (we have a organic vegie garden going strong!) ...but for most of the week you will be free to enjoy summer on the lake! Looking for fun, creative, trustworthy people who'd like to spend some time enjoying our home and our beautiful town. Qualifications / references would be fantastic! If you are interested, please pm me I can send photos & more details - will be listing it on Helpx etc. but thought it might be worth trying a forum first. Thanks for reading! :-)

Hey guys, I have been looking into shipping bikes to Oz for our impending emigration in April... I have found other feeds complaining of damaged bikes and expensive insurances. As this will be a one off journey so I'm trying to avoid buying expensive travel cases (bike box) that are available. I have therefore contacted my local bike shop and have sourced cardboard boxes and all the necessary polystyrene and other packaging used originally to ship every new bike worldwide. The bike shop say that this is common practice and the best part is it's completely free *smug-face*! Anyways, just thought I'd share in hope this could save you guys some cash... Now, who wants to clean my bike for me?

I've been Googling about it but can't find anything concrete. Is contraception free over there? Such as condoms, contraceptive jelly and what not? I guess it's best to stock up before hand really.

Hi all, We have a 4-place dinner set free to good (ok - any) home. It's white with blue flowery bits on the edges, and has plates, pasta bowls and cups. It really is perfectly fine, it's just surplus to requirements and I figured if anyone needed something to tide them over... We also have a couple of UK multi-power boards if anyone needs some for appliances they haven't changed the plugs for! Collection from Berwick/Narre-Warren area of Melbourne Cheers!

I don't know if this has been posted before but thought I would mention it as there seems to be a lot of posts on this and other forums about why we can't watch UK telly here in OZ well I won't get too techie on the matter it all has to do with licenses and television rights so unless you pay for a VPN, Hide your i.p. service or a member of the box etc..It just can't be done for free and it costs money in the long run. You do not need to be technically minded to set this up and can be watching your favourite programmes in under 5 minutes, you will not need to set up a UK proxie server and all the software you need is 100% virus free and best of all legal. Now the downside it will only work for ITV 1,2,3 and 4 so you can catch up with yesterday's Corrie, Emmerdale or Britains Got Talent (well some Talent). But if you are looking for a hack for the BBC iplayer or Channel 4 then sorry this is not for you, but I am working on it. I have used this method for well over 6 months and it works like a dream on my computer and thought maybe it is time to share it with all fellow PIO members. I wont clog up this post on how to do it, you can get all the info from my website, you will find all the links needed to get the software and a handy step by step guide on how to set it all up. If you follow my instructions correctly it will work for you and all your ITV programmes will then be free if you are having problems then use the conact us link on my website and I'l try to help you further, Enjoy... Tim, If you feel this is helpful in anyway you may want to add a sticky to it for future PIO's perhaps ?

We recently moved from Australia to Surrey, UK and brought our Aussie flat screen TV with us thinking it would work here. But, sadly, we aren't able to change the country code and get it to work. So I am looking for someone here in the Surrey area that is planning to move to Australia and would like a free TV to put in their container. It's 2 years old and around 32" (if I remember correctly). We used it in our guest room. All you need to do is come by and pick it up. TVs are very expensive in Australia (we paid around $800 for it). I'm just hoping to save it from going to the dump. Please email me if you could use it jpowledge at gmail dot com Please feel free to move this message if I've put it in the wrong section of the forum. Thanks! Jenny

Do any mobile networks provide free texts/calls within network?
NowPerth posted a topic in Household
In the UK some mobile companies allow free calls and texts to other users on the same network. As there are 6 in our family this is a handy freebie to have. Does anyone know of any networks in Oz which allow the same on PAYG tariff? -
Brimbank Council is helping residents to remove graffiti from their private property with a removal voucher worth $80. Each voucher, redeemable at Sunshine Paint Spot, entitles the holder to a kit which includes a 500ml graffiti remover, four litres of exterior paint and a paint roller. There is a limit of one voucher per household and each voucher is valid for 12 months. Since the program commenced in March 2011, council has assisted more than 40 residents to clear graffiti from their properties.

I'm currently training to be a hypnotherapist and am seeking volunteers who would like to experience a free session. Hypnotherapy can be used to help you with stress and relaxation, study habits and concentration, insomnia, public speaking, smoking, weight loss and anxiety. Alternatively, you could experience what it is like to be hypnotised and enjoy a relaxing experience. I certainly know from my experience of the big move, it's a bit stressful! A session will take up to an hour of your time and would take place at a private consulting room in my training college based in Elsternwick. It's a government accredited course and I've done a lot of studying and practising so I would really appreciate your help. If you would like a free hypnotherapy session, please contact me!
