CAvey
As well as the above, off the top of my head... Professionalim Attention to detail Decent sport Educated sports fans that don't stop following their team when they lose. Real 'live' coverage Ad free tv non biased news coverage Better drivers by far (honestly!) MOT's More consumer choice Buy 1 get 1 free's World awareness Reliable broadband internet that doesn't stop working when it rains Proper fish & chip shops where you are served on the spot instead of being given a ticket when you're the only one in the place! This may only apply to Queensland but, free of the phrase 'best in the world' Bargains...

Harpodom
National Health hmmm medicare which is similar, better some ways worse others Cheap dental care.(free for kids) agree Decent beer some good aus beers amongst a plethora of crap ones but v pricey Decent Curries. Have to agree Better TV. Again agree. This is a gimme, anyone who argues otherwise is a bit deluded IMO :goofy: Better scenery. Moot point More interesting History. Certainly more history unless you count aboriginal history but tbh that's a bit patchy Castles. No one could argue with that Historic stately homes. Ditto National Trust. There is an Aussie version but due to the lack of castles and stately homes etc, doesn't really compare IMO Royal Family. Aus shares same royal family perthy Better shops. Tend to agree though shopping isn't my forte Europe on our doorstop. Yup, that's a gimme 4 Seasons. You deffo get seasonal changes in Victoria, beautiful spring weather ATM Old pubs. A gimme British comedies on TV and British comedians. On abc here The inbetweeners. on some other channel Last night of the proms. I'm sure it's on abc but I really couldn't give a toss tbh Red Arrows.:notworthy: the Aussies have the roulettes which I'm sure are just as good Bonfire night. belaroy
Not a fan then? Wrong, I am a big fan of Britain, it has been very good to me. You have assumed that because I put facts that aren't particularly pleasant on the post. I think ( and this goes for Australia too) that people easily see things with rose tinted glasses and sometimes only read/ see what they want. The things I posted are true and to be balanced I think people should see it is not all perfect, which is why I also said Australia has its problems too. Conniebygaslight
Hi Connie I'm finding the supermarket debate quite interesting. For me the Oz ones are far better and have a greater supply of fresh/real food. Over here I'm finding more pre cooked food and certainly a bigger choice of unhealthy pre packaged stuff. In the short time I've been here my diet isn't nearly as healthy as in Oz. I'm not saying at all that they don't have fresh food (although I think the UK supermarkets do too). I think the variety is somewhat lacking. The basic meat is fne as in Beef, Lamb, pork, chicken. Try buying duck or goose, or anything out of the ordinary...! The international cuisine is consigned to a couple of shelves. I was also amazed at the lack of choice in seafood. It's not only food though, in the UK you can walk into a Tesco or Sainbury and buy allsorts...this is just waht you get used to of course and if you go to the markets and other places it all works out but as I said before with 3 young children I have neither the time nor desire to shop around on a weekly basis. I do think they do delicious dips though
paisleylass
Interesting thread. My conclusion - if Australia were like the UK with hotter weather I wouldn't even consider moving there! Each to their own  But I do anticipate missing the good old British boozer. Hope we find some good ones in Brisbane, I despise modern trendy bars! Grand Central Hotel looks a good 'un, the description of the Platform Bar reminds me of Huddersfield's lovely Head Of Steam.
Guest guest37336
As most will know I am a fan of Australia, but will never knock the UK without justification. There is nothing like seeing a single Oak tree in a field on a cold frosty morning. I'm no tree hugger, but the tales it could tell,

As we are on the coast I can buy any type of seafood I like at my fishmongers. I have kids too, I can't actually see what you are trying to say. janine the party queen
I have to agree with Conniebygaslight. In Sydney I was spoilt for choice when it came to food shopping. Now however the lack of choice is astounding !!!!!!!! It really does depend where you are living.Darwin is definately more expensive than Sydney and we only have the choice of Woolies and Coles. Guest guest36187
I'm in brissie and I have no issues with getting fresh anything! Meat is not an issue either. Can get whatever you want. Supermarkets sell, butchers sell and specialist shops sell. However much it costs.....we chose to live here! W earn dollars, we spend dollars. Some things are cheaper, some are bloody expensive!
