Flew on the A380 with Singapore last year, absolutely great, only recommendation is try to get upstairs seating, its quieter and less crowded

We went with Singapore Airlines A380, it was brilliant, loads of leg room, me 5 foot 7 and my OH 6 foot 2! Loads and loads of films and programmes on demand. Food lovely and drinks and nibbles about every ten minutes, best flights we have ever had:wubclub:

I am 5ft 7 too and O/H almost 6ft so sounds better than normal cramped seats!

I flew on the SA A380 and it was fab! I just chose my seats and booked/confirmed them as soon as I could after booking. All done online.

Also, have a look at seatguru.com, as it will help you find the good seats on any aircraft.

Bit tricky because you have to actually book online before you can see what seats are still available. When I booked, I had a load of trouble with my credit card so I rang them and they booked it for me on the phone AND told me what was available upstairs in economy too. If you book with a travel agent or flight specialist they can only request the seats you prefer. Another good thing about upstairs on the A380 is that the window seats are in two`s so no having to sit next to someone you dont know. Downstairs are in 3`s & 4`s. Have a look on www.seatplans.com to see the configurations of all the airlines and how they score with passengers. Good luck, Val x

yes, exactly, as I had problems booking a seat for my toddler, as she was under 2 going out and 2 coming back so had to book her seat over the phone as it wasnt possible online. Therefore, I couldnt book her seat in advance as it wasnt booked online.

It wasnt an issue though as we had booked the other 3 seats, so when it came to booking hers (only allowed 48hrs before if booked over the phone), it was fine, as no-one had booked the one single seat next to us in a block of 4, so got it no problem. I was envisaging having to ask someone to swap with us, but couldnt see it being a problem - who would choose to sit next to a family with a toddler!

I'm pleased I found this thread as we were planning on travelling with Emirates when we next fly to Oz. Will definately look at Singapore Airlines too.

Thank you.

We were able to reserve our seats for our Auckland flight with Emirates via a membership programme they have called Skywards. It cost nothing to join and reserve our seats that way. Singapore Airlines may have a similar system in place.

Best of luck with all the arrangements. When do you hope to fly?

Thank you.

The only bad thing about Singapore is their measly luggage allowance: Emirates give you 30kgs as standard - Singapore still only give you 20kgs:no:

Flying the Singapore leg of my journey to Brisbane upstairs on a Singapore Airlines A380 next Saturday, will let you know how I get on. (To get my seat, I first booked my tickets online then used the website to amend the seats - it shows you which ones are available). :wubclub:

To add to what the poster said above, if you're travelling on an unvalidated permanent resident visa (say for example a subclass 100 partner visa  ) Singapore will give you a free double baggage allowance (just the visa holder!) to 40kgs..

Does anyone know if Emirates give you this double allowance, as I did get it with SA as Peach has said, but my sister has booked with Emirates, and they told her that as they have increased their luggage allowance, they now do not offer double allowance for unvalidated visa holders. Not sure if that sounds right. I know sometimes it depends on who you speak to.

Thanks

Sorry for the confusion - I am going to Oz on holiday so I`ve not looked into the allowances they give when travelling to validate as we`re a long way off that trip yet! Hope you enjoy your trip! Val

We travelled with Singapore Airlines when we went over to validate last year and we had a mixed experience.

When we arrived at Heathrow we were told that the plane we were booked on hadn't left Singapore as it had engineering problems. (Personally I think they hadn't sold all the seats so they cancelled the flight, but they're not allowed to cancel flights for that reason so an engineering fault is a good cop out. That's just my personal cynical opinion though). We were offered seats on another flight that was leaving within the hour. We thought "no problem, it's earlier than the flight we had booked, bonus". What they didn't tell us, and I didn't even think of it as we were booked on an A380, was that they were putting on an extra flight and it was a Boeing 777. Needless to say it didn't leave within the hour, it was held until enough passengers turned up to fill all the seats. So two hours in a stuffy terminal and thirteen hours on a packed and cramped 777 with three children wasn't much fun.

The flight down from Singapore to Perth was on an A320 which was very comfortable and roomy, much more so than the 777.

The flight back from Perth to Singapore was again an A320 and was another comfortable journey.

For the flight from Singapore to Heathrow we finally got on an A380 and it was even more roomy and comfortable than the A320s. So in answer to your OP the A380 is a very pleasant plane to fly on and well worth choosing.

I would advise you to check in online before you leave for the airport as it makes things so much easier and smoother. We did it for Heathrow and sailed through check in. We didn't do it for the flight back from Perth and spent an age in the check-in queue, where our daughter threw up all over the floor. We got through check-in pretty quickly after that though. So for a fast check-in either do it online or take a nervous child with you.

Not sure hun - but if you ask some geezer on here called Tony - he might be able to help. But I think these days hes more busy with stopping the cyclical demise of Lemmings and has started a charity called something about Save the Lemmings :biglaugh:

Haha - sorry I cant help as Ive not flown on it - but how exciting that things are moving on now :jiggy:

Gill, do you really want me to go into great detail about the A380. A master piece of engineering, I even took photos of the toilets on board when I flew on it. :embarrassed::embarrassed:

I shall stop their my friend, as I feel an infraction coming up from the new mods if I don't shut my cake hole. :wubclub::biglaugh:

But having said that, :biglaugh::SLEEP: I have included the clip from You Tube of the inaugural A380 flight. I'm the one in the brown leather jacket, looking bloody miserable, AGAIN.:biglaugh:
