Makes me wonder though if some states who really are desperate for Nurses, especially those from the UK because they know that UK nurses are probably, if not, the best trained nurses in the world are making there own rules up with regards to the IELTS !!!!

Its beyond me , I have been a porter since arriving in Australia , and very greatfull for it. But what a total loss of a qualification.

AHPRA are a total mess , how can some one from such an organisation refuse to see an appicant face to face.

Nowhere on there website or on AGEN-04 does it say IELTS is a requirement if you can prove you were educated in the UK.

My wife has to do an IELTS as part of her skills assesment for state sponsorship, however nothing we've seen leads us to believe this is required for registration! Interested to hear more on the outcome of this.

Requirements

1. An applicant who is:

a) an internationally qualified applicant, or

b) an applicant who did not undertake and complete

their secondary education to the requisite level

required for entry into a nursing or midwifery

program, taught and assessed in English

must arrange for evidence to be provided to the

Board of competency in English language skills as

demonstrated by having completed the following

tests of English language proficiency:

a) the IELTS examination (academic module)

with a minimum score of 7 in each of the four

components (listening, reading, writing and

speaking); or

b) completion and an overall pass in the OET

with grades A or B only in each of the four

It says an international applicant , must prove IELTS. Like s4mmy I was told it was told it was not needed in e-mails. But as you can see the document says you do. :arghh::notworthy:

Your missing the point. Read b) again. The draught document clearly shows countries that APHRA say, provided you meet the criteria they require i.e. evidence of english skills, they may consider that to be enough. Obviously the board can not give a decision before they meet to assess each individual case.

I would advise waiting till AHPRA meet and review your particular case. Each case is very different, hence the confusion.

Those are my thoughts, if you can provide evidence of a secondary education in the UK there is no need for the IELTS for AHPRA registration.

Hi

I have applied to AHPRA on 17 Dec, the fees were taken from my account on 13 Jan. ANMC emailed me yesterday to say they will send my transcript to AHPRA next wk 28 Jan (why it takes so long to send it?)

Failed IELTS twice by 0.5 on reading section, have just sent in my secondary education certificates and asked the notary public to comment that all my education has been taught in the UK when certifying the documents.

Going to Perth in 5 weeks - there is no way my registration will be sorted before we go!!

I have to say as usual they don't make things easy or straight forward, my original question about IELTS was, my wife has passed it already, and will she have to take it again if it was to apply for registration, say 4 or 5 years later, surely if your English, with an English exam pass certificate and you have previously passed the IELTS and have a certificate, that this will be enough to get registered with. My wife said she wouldn't do it again, she said it wasn't right. Anyone else know for certain, that she has to pass the IELTS test again?

Hi Hoff

It says on the english standard paper in the nursing section that it has to be with in a 2 year period. I agree they dont make it easy and tell you conflicting stuff.

Hi ya Bev,

Sorry to say but the nightmare will begin............. But if you are prepared, it should not be so bad apart from the long wait.

My advice go through the list of documents listed on the near to last page of the application from and send everything asked for, because although you request everything from ANMC, not sure if they just send a copy of the determination letter regarding your skills assessment. Although I asked ANMC to forward on all my docs, I still had to send some more documents which I know for a fact ANMC had and had been asked to forward on, asked for all these again just before they said I was eligible. And they need to be notarised by the notary or certified by a justice of the peace.

Good luck. Read the application thoroughly and include everything asked for.

Thanks Helen, its just so confusing. Do i need to send secondary school certificates and uni transcript and IELTs report page? Think i'm going to email them to clarify things, they dont make it easy for us do they! Also it asks for all documents to be certified, then on the end checklist the only things that state certified is passport, license (if applicable), and transcripts. Would make it a bit easier for me not to have to go to court again to get things signed AGAIN.

Hie to you all.

I'd like to share my AHPRA story with you, as l can see we are in the same boat.

I sent my application to Queensland in November'09 with everything. It was checked in Jan' 10 and l got a letter with my application package saying l have to re-write IELTS as l had missed by 0.5 in reading, then send everything back after l wrote. They held my transcript, verification and letter from my matron. I wrote in April '10 and l passed. I sent back the application form. After they got my results, hoping all was fine, l got another letter in June stating that the letter from my matron had some outstanding info, so they needed a new one. It was hell trying to get a new one because the matron had passed away. Another matron had to start afresh. My application was transfered to AHPRA Melbourne during the transition period.

The letter from my matron was finally sent to melbourne in Aug '10. I sent the new application form 27 Aug '10. AHPRA Melbourne then confirmed that they had received my application on 09-09-10. I was glad that everything was in order.

6 Nov '10 l got an e-mail from my case manager who was assigned my file stating that l had not paid. I told her l had paid whilst my file was in Queensland, then she said she is sending it back to Queensland. They received it on the 9th of Nov '10.

I've sent an inquiry every month to check on the progress but have been told that they cannot process mine before people who submitted in Aug '10.

My latest reply which l got today say my enquiry has been escalated to a registration specialist. What does that mean??? I'm just tired of waiting. My life is on hold because of AHPRA!!

Hey, I received an e-mail saying that mines was being escalated to a specialist as well. I think after you have e-mailed them several times they just send that to you so it looks like they are doing something. The whole process is a complete joke!!

Hi Zenco , hope you are doing well with your nursing job. I contacted the Ombudsman and he rang me two weeks ago and said he would call me back that afternoon , still waiting. I have left a message every day with him. I am so down about all of this and just want a yes or no from AHPRA about my registrstion so I can move on and enjoy Australia as a nurse or not.

Hey,

I have no idea why it is being escalated to a specialist. I have my IELTS so i don't think it has anything to do with that. I received that e-mail 2 weeks ago so i have e-mailed them AGAIN!! So fed up with the lot of it!!

Hi everyone, I have been following this for a while now, and thought I would share my experience with you all. (a slightly shortened version) Seems we are all fed up of getting told misleading information!!!

I applied to AHPRA in the beginning of September, when I came to Brisbane. (previously applied to QLD board, but application sent back as AHPRA take over was about to commence.

I physically went into the office to hand in all of my documents, I did sit my IELTS, but failed by .5 on the writing. However, I was told that if I had evidence of Secondary school being taught and assessed in English, that would be sufficient.

So... 5 months down the line, after being lied to and told miss-leading information e,g, just waiting on police checks, numerous times, just awaiting a case manager, just waiting on this, that, the other, you know what I mean!!

I was finally told in December, that it hadn't even been looked at yet!!!

So, I wrote a formal letter of complaint, then all of a sudden I receive an e-mail!!!

Telling me that an initial assessment had been made on my application.

They informed me that there were documents that hadn't been certified correctly, and needed to be re-done (even though I paid a solicitor money to do it in the UK), My education certificates were not good enough for the English Language requirements!!!!!!

So, I went into the office again, to be told all I had to do was write out a stat dec, witnessed and signed by a JP (Luckily there was one in the office) and that is sufficient evidence apparently!

Also my 'Certificate of Good Standing' mysteriously went missing, or was never forwarded on from QLD board. So I have just paid again, for another one to be sent.

So, I am waiting to see what happens next... I have given them everything they requested, so it will now go smoothly and I will soon be registered!!

Well we can only hope!!! Good luck to everyone!!
