  1. Hey all, I have been in oz since april, I also applied for my reg with QNC in april. I was due to start work 3 weeks ago. NMC in UK were so late and tardy in sending my verification I lost out on being granted reg with QNC by one day! Now AHPRA (formed 1st july) do not have the processes in place to assess overseas trained nurse's applications at the moment. so I cant work, I dont know when I will be able to and I can't get any sense out of AHPRA! Thinking there most be some people in the same boat? Annie:wacko:

    Awaiting IELTS results! EEK!

Hello there! Anyone else awaiting the results from the dreaded IELTs test? I sat the academic one on the 20/10, really nervous as need 8's to get the required visa points! Which seems to be an impossible task! Nervous.com! :arghh:
  3. Hi, I am currently on 457 visa which would expire in next few months. I have applied for onshore 856 visa and my understanding is that I would be granted bridging visa after 457 visa lapses if my application for 856 is still not processed by then. I understand that you get 28 days to leave the country should your application gets rejected. I was wondering if anyone knows whether I could apply for second 457 whilst awaiting the outcome of 856 since that would give me enough time to apply for some other skilled pathway should my 856 gets rejected. I know that I cant apply for 457 whilst I am on bridging visa and that is why I would like to apply for second 457 whislt I still have valid 457 visa. I read somewhere in forum that the second application cancels the first application....would my 856 application get cancelled with this rule then?
  4. just wondering if anyone has gone over to oz on a working holiday visa whilst awaiting their 175/176 visa to be granted?? we are desperate to get over to Australia and thinking about doing this once our 175 visa application is in.. ! we have no commitments in the UK (e.g. children, mortgage etc) so would just be able to go really once it has been granted. i know that we have to leave Australia before the 175 visa is granted and then re-enter the country again. How do you know the visa is about to be granted, will they contact you to tell you that you need to leave Oz? Thank you, much appreciated!!
  5. Hi Everyone, Me my husband & 3 girls are waiting to apply for 176 visa SS to WA as soon as his vetassess results are back which may be anyday now. We are off to Perth, im feeling excited, nervous, happy, sad and all the other emotions that come with moving to the other side of the world. Anyone else waiting for Vetassess?
  6. Hi, Wondering if there is anyone on here who could help me? I have applied for the RSMS 857 Sponsorship visa and my girlfriend is listed as de facto. We have been given a bridging visa until the decision is made regarding our application. There is no specific type mentioned. I have read through form 1024i about the bridging visas and this is where my question arises. I want to know if my girlfriend can get permission to work even though she is cuurentl here on a holiday visa? Does the bridging visa over rule the existing holiday visa therefore allowing her to apply for permission to work? Thank you for your time. Paul

  9. Hi all Quick question - what happens if a PR application is still being decided when a holiday to Australia comes up (all flights/hotels booked etc). Hoping to have had the 176 for a while by October but are we stuck if it hasn't come through by then? It sounds like we can't just get tourist visas while we wait? Thanks

Visitor Visa while awaiting PMV 300

Hello everyone Has anyone entered on a electronic visitor visa while awaiting decision on a overseas lodged marriage visa application and what was their reception at airport customs like? Any stories to share? Is it easy to get another electronic visa whilst in Australia to extend the time (since processing seems to currently be 6 mths plus). Thanks!
  11. Hi This may be a daft question - but we are about to lodge our 176 application and have booked flights to Australia for our honeymoon in October. I'm probably being paranoid - but is there any complication in entering the country on a tourist visa whilst awaiting a permanent visa decision? Thanks! Chris

    Awaiting DIAC's comments!

Capitalism at its finest! This is so disappointing! Union accuses Maersk of exploiting workers Updated Mon Feb 28, 2011 6:04pm AEDT The AWU claims Filipino workers are being paid less than $3 an hour on the North West shelf (ABC Rural) Map: Karratha 6714 The Australian Workers Union has accused a Danish company of trafficking Filipino employees to work on Western Australia's North West Shelf gas project. The AWU says the workers are carrying out painting and maintenance work on one of shipping company Maersk's oil rig vessels for less than $3 an hour. The union's Scott McDine says delegates have also found the workers have not been officially recognised by Australian authorities. "They were shocked to see these workers do not have their presence in Australia stamped into their passports, even though they come in and out of Australian waters," he said. "They are being trafficked; if they don't exist as far as Australian passport authorities are concerned, it is extremely easy to mistreat them." Mr McDine says the Government needs to take action. "We want to see them shut down the rorters and deliver a fair, transparent guest worker program," he said. "The AWU/MUA Offshore Alliance was approached by the Filipino workers, many of whom are scared of retribution against them and their families back in the Philippines and they were quite simply asking for the union to protect them and provide them with support." Both Maersk and the Immigration Department have been contacted for comment.

    Primary school Teacher awaiting visa

hi, anyone had any luck getting through all the red tape recently? We applied back in August 2008 - still nothing! Would be great to hear from any other primary teachers who have managed to get in :notworthy:
  16. My other half is waiting for a date for his practical date with Vetassess. Anyone else waiting for this in the UK? We are so eager to start the visa.
  17. *APOLOGIES FOR DOUBLE POST - put this in News, Goss & Chat too so more people would see it!!!* :chatterbox: Hi all Just in case you were unaware, today, Thursday 13th January 2011 is the Major Offer Round for most tertiary courses in Queensland. Unfortunately due to the flooding, QTAC's servers went down and areas around the QTAC offices are flooded out. Consequently their website is all down and it is not know when they will resume service but hopefully it shouldn't be too long. If you're sat tight waiting in the UK to hear in regards to a tertiary offer, or you're already here in Australia waiting on the news, or you know someone who is in this position, advise them they are unlikely to hear just yet. If I or anyone else knows any more on the situation as it develops, let them know/post here! I apologise on behalf of QTAC... I don't work for them or anything, but I heard it all on the QUT News Facebook page and I work just around the corner from QTAC's building. Thanks, and good luck (when you hear!) LukeM.
  18. I have already applied for an 885. Since the SMPs have been introduced, I am doubtful that my visa will be processed in the next 2 or 3 years. So, I am thinking whether I should go down the provisional 487 visa route for recent graduates. However, what is bugging me is whether I am allowed to lodge a 487 since I have already lodged an 885. If I am allowed to do this, would you advise me to take the 487 path? How long is the processing time for a provisional visa such as 487? If I have to wait over an year or more for a 487 I don't think it's worth applying since the 885 currently would take 18 months according to DIAC's service charter. Also, if I am granted the 487, one of the conditions of the visa is that I work for 12 months full time. My question is, can I work in ANY occupation or does it have to be related to my nominated occupation for the 487? I am thinking of applying for an 887 after working for 2 years on the 487. Anybody out there on a 487 or has any knowledge of how this visa works? Is the grant of the 887 guaranteed for all 487 visa holders or is there a quota for 887s? I don't know if I am being stupid here but I have a feeling that the provisional path is at least a more secure way than being stuck in category 3 at the moment. What do you guys think?
  19. Has anyone else left the uk to await the outcome of there visa in Australia? and is it ok to do this? My dilemma is my boyfriend is going back to Australia in Nov for harvest and I don't want to sit around waiting for 6 months without him. (We didn't realise the visa processing was taking so long) :arghh: I have read a couple of threads saying you can go to Australia on a holiday visa and then leave again when the visa is due to be granted? My co has requested meds and Australian police check and once meds have been processed and I have received police check I was going to email co and let him know I was thinking of going to Australia for a few months. any info on this would be mucho appreciated

  21. Dear Folks, My wife is currently 8 weeks pregnant with expected delivery date in mid feb 2011. We are thinking about informing our CO as change of circumstances, but don't know if this will effect our application process. Good thing is, I guess, our medicals are already done, so no more have to worry about X-rays for my wife. If we are granted visa in next few months, then everything should be fine, we will have time to migrate and settle down in OZ, with our baby coming in Australia becoming a citizen right-a-way. But if we were granted visa too close to our Initial Entry Date (i.e in Jan 2011 based on PCC submitted), my wife may not be able to fly and settle there in OZ in such a short time, thus putting her visa in jeopardy. If such circumstances arrive, we may contact our CO to ask for extension to IED but as I read in different forums, the extension of IED is granted rarely. Even if the extension is given until the birth of the baby, applying for Child Visa is another financial burden (Cost about $1,735) and time consuming process. Normally for Child Visa they take few months, but in our case, if such time comes, ours may be again another battle because sponsor (myself) has to submit his PCCs and they may access the character again as per the questions given in the application form. I am from a very high risk country, and character assesments take extremely long time. Plus getting PCC from USA, where I lived for few years, is another 3-4 months process. I don't know, what to do? Any good suggestions from you folks are welcome to relieve some pain.

  23. Hi Everyone, It's been a while since I was on the forum so hello to you all again. I am still living in the uk and I applied for a CPV 143 in June 2009. My questions are regarding the possibility of working in Oz while my visa is being processed. I currently have a 12 month e visa with restrictions that i have to leave after 12 months. I presently spend approx. 2 months a year visiting my family in Oz, but now I may have the opportunity of working for my son in law in Oz and want to know how I stand on this. 1) What sort of visa would allow me to work while waiting my CPV? Although I am a qualified nurse and midwife the work I am considering with my family is office work . After researching the possibilities I am now totally confused. Can anyone advise??
  24. Morning all, I have completed both stages of vettassess and have submitted my 176 last week. My question now is we are planing a year out ( 6mths europe and 6 mths Oz ) how will the changes effect me ?? if at all. Thanks isr999
  25. Has anyone attempted to holiday in Australia with a tourist visa whilst waiting for a more permanent visa to be granted? We are currently midway through a permanent spouse visa application, and have planned a holiday for next month. My husbands medicals have been sent to Australia for final clearance, and our CO has told us that he may be refused entry on a tourist visa if he is not medically cleared by the time we arrive in Australia. This is obviously of some concern to us, anyone had any experience of this?
