Generalis
Hi trying to find some info. on medicare and prices for prescription costs. Is it like here £7 per item on prescription or is it the actual cost of the medicine you pay for which is likely to be expensive. Thanks Sam

Thanks Sam If it's on the pbs list - most are - you pay "max" $32.90 (roughly 13squid in normal times). Always ask for "generic" brand as these are often cheaper even though exactly the same. Quoll
And if it isnt on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme then you pay through the nose for it although you may be able to recoup some of that cost if you have private health cover. Be prepared to have your GP change the medication you are on because not all of them travel over onto the PBS. Generic is cheaper by a few dollars a script. Guest proud2beaussie
There is some good information about the PBS scheme on the Medicare website. Your prescriptions - Medicare Australia

BuddysMum
Similar system to that in Ireland where you have to pay the full cost of the drug. I guess it will happen here in UK eventually, but it will be a brave government to introduce it!

Also shop around, you can beat the chemists down by quite a few dollars on the recommended price
Rudi
It's definitely worth trying few different different chemists as they do vary quite a lot in price. Unfortunately you have to pay though, even for childrens scripts. You will also need to try and find a bulk billing doctor in your area or else you will be paying for each time you go to the doctors. love Rudi x
