lsh
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone is in the same position as us. We lodged our application on the 26th November last year with an agent and we still haven't got a case officer? Our application is the paper based type (Class VE, subclass 175 Skilled - Independent). We did ask our agent and he said that there is still a backlog in Australia with the paper based applications and they were only now getting through September 2007. So is anyone in the same situation as us? We also haven't been able to do our medicals as I am pregnant (hooray ), so cant have the xrays done until Feb next year (after baby is born) but just would feel better if we were assigned to a case officer asap - but no luck. Sigh....

Glad to hear we're not alone in waiting for a case officer. Yes our agent did inform immigration but we would still need to be assigned a case officer before the birth - thats the way I understood it. Anyway, glad to hear the applications are moving I will have a read through the other threads. Thanks again.

Guest Andy and Tracy
Hiya Welcome to PIO. I think 9 months would be a good scenario. We are on the same visa. Does my timeline help? Don't forget, you can send a blank email to aspc.processing@immi.gov.au and get a reply (hours later) with info on processing times Tracy
Guest julie01
Hi andy and tracy Thanks for replying, so are you still waiting for your visa to be granted? When I signed up for this I had no idear it would take so long. I have tryed aspc.processing@immi.gov.au a couple of times and to be honest dont realy understand it, it never seems to change. can I ask wat the occupation is that your going on? thanks Julie :spinny:

It has so far taken them over 2 months to verify our birth certificates etc.. I think there is just an incredible backlog of visa applications to get through. We should surely hear any day now.... We are going on a 175 Skilled Independent MODL - husband is a bricklayer. The aspc processing times email is updated every Tuesday, I think. You would need to look down near the bottom where it says offshore applications and then lists the different visa types. I think we are subclass 136. It is not brilliantly helpful though. We checked it every week for a month and it eventually moved on about 3 days for the processing times of our visa type. This visa malarkey is torture if you are not a patient person....! THE DUNSCOMBE FAMILY
police checks need to be done by everyone 16 and over regardless how many years you have lived in the uk.Our visa process took from lodgement till getting visa through 6 mths for our 175, however with all the evidence and paperwork needed for our case the whole thing from start to finish was 18mths(im also defacto) not married to my other half but been together 14 years with 2 children age 12 and 6 and still had to prove our case ,Mark also had a job to go to which they wanted pove for that so each case is slightly different but hope i have given you a rough time scale good luck. You prob wont hear anything anyway untill your baby is born as he/she will have to be added to the application
Guest Andy and Tracy
Hiya They check that everything you send them is genuine and not forged copies of documents. It takes some Case Officers a day to then grant your visa, or sometimes you just get lost in the system again and it takes ages. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to it. Your C/O might go off sick and the others are too busy to pick up your case. I keep moaning about my delay, but actually it must be a pain being a C/O! All this gip we give them - and they are struggling to cope with a massive influx of applications without an increase in staff numbers to deal with them. I ought to cut mine some slack really!! I have decided to start preparing anyway - clearing the playroom, garage, stuff like that, so it keeps my mind off it Good luck with your application! Guest hels269
Hi All I applied for a 175 in december. got acknowledgement on 12th december. Sent meds and police checks off in July. Have not heard anything at all. asked agent to check what was happening because I was led to believe average wait was 9 months so was sort of expecting something any day now. Agent was no help really and just explained about backlog. Have not even heard that they got my medical which is worrying. Im sure they did, im just a pessimist Surely it cant be too long. That aspc email never ever changed ! its been the 20 something of November since about May !!! Mind you, cant go anywher until I sell my house and with the current situation that doesnt look very likely. still, be nice to know i have it. Guest Kate Edwards
Hi everyone, Julie - we are like ish applied november last year with complete medicals and police checks with application - still no c/o. We were told as my husband is on modl and jobs in demand and has a job offer in place we would be fast tracked!!!! it does not feel very fast to me!! However after discussing this with a few people on this site I have contacted my agent who confirms that processing centre have been very naughty and allocated a team to deal with e logged applicants which causes a que jumping scenario for poor old us paper based applicants - this makes their figures look better!!! However oct applicants are staring to have their visa's and c/o so fingers crossed!!!!
Guest julie01
hiya kate Its a pain isent it, Its horrible knowing Im going to be for at least a 12 month wait. what is your partners trade, as we were told the same thing about being fast tracked. have you got to have your medicals ad police checks done again? thanks Julie
Guest Kate Edwards
Julie, No medicals and police checks are being cleared - not our fault they have taken so long - o/h trade is IT specifically Oracle specialist. Have you already applied - it looks like doing it via email is the way to go!!! Kate x ps do you have a job lined up? you could always get the company to 457 visa it for you- we have done that while waiting for the 175!!! but it does have it's draw backs. took less than a week for the 457 to come through all granted!!! Madness - who runs that department.......

Hi Kate, We have already applied, I know now that doing it via-email would have been the best way if only we knew this when we applied we dont have a job lined up as we were planning to travel around for a long holiday for a bit untill we commited ourselfs to somwere, but I suppose that could always wait, I just want to get there now. So how does this work then? is the 457 a sponsed visa, I was aware that you had to be offshore while the visa was being granted, also whats the drawbacks? thanks Julie
Guest Kate Edwards
Hi Julie, The 457 is for when a company want to employ someone where a working visa is not an option ie age?! I think. - it can last up to 4 years. Becasue we already had our medicals and police checks done they just used them to approve it. It only cost the company few 100 dollars to do - so alot cheaper than our route!!! We do have to be off shore when the 175 is granted, basically becasue we have gone through an agent it uses their address in UK. We have to leave Aus to NZ or somewhere for few days then re enter to activate the residnecy 175 visa however I am hoping it will have arrived by the time we fly out in January! Draw backs are mainly education and health care. I would have to pay to send my youngest to school on the 457 around 6K i think!!! An expense we could do without - and medi care / plan is not available on the temp visa either! again more expense - with having 2 small children and I have MS i want us all to be covered from the minute we land!!!!! Guest Marty
hang in their you lot !! our 175 skilled took a while ,,,do not be afraid to badger your agent ,,after all they are working for you,,,the police checks don't last ,,only 3 months I think ,,so don't be to hasty and throw money away,,it racks up enough costs anyway,, It will happen,,and once you are living over here you will understand that not any official work or any other type of work is done with haste,, anyway, good luck with it all !!!! So I'm affraid it is just a waiting game for all I think all the brits are going to warmer climates can't blame them as this country is in such a mess, even the ozzy's are going home. Guest dan&nikki
i cant believe people are still waiting from a year ago! Those of you with an agent -i would ask them to contact the DIAC and ask for a progress report, those of you not with an agent, could you ring DIAC directly and ask for the same thing? You never know, it might just prompt them to pull their fingers out....whats the worse that can happen?? you've waited long enough. Good luck
