  2. Pptrixibell and I are keen to have a wee meet at the child friendly George Harcourt Inn one Saturday afternoon. For those who haven't heard, the George Harcourt is at Gold Creek on the Barton Highway between Gungahlin and Belconnen and is one of the better traditional pubs in Canberra I'm thinking of meeting up for 3pm on the Saturday 26th, there is plenty to see at Gold Creek/Gininnderra Village/Federation Square if you want come early and look around for a few hours beforehand. Anyone interested? http://www.georgeharcourt.com/

  4. What a day! Out of the blue this morning our visa was granted and our dream future is on the horizon, What a rollercoaster ride with the most fabulous outcome, dont think its actually sunk in properly yet as our application seemed to be plague ridden and when we sorted one problem another seemed to rear its ugly head the last being my police check which unearthed a conditional discharge when I was 14 which counted as a conviction. We did the whole process ourselves in 10months which I think I did pretty darn well considering the problems we encountered. The moral of this story is if you want it bad enough you can obtain your dreams/goals in life nomatter what obstacles you come across, Dont give up until you have explored every route possible! I will be so proud to live in Australia and the next obstacle will be citizenship!!!! I will still remain to poke my nose in on here as its a fantastic site and know I will still gain advice and will need advice in the coming months prior to leaving(May12) You guys have been amazing and I want to Thank you all as when our visa application had got us down with problems this place has picked us up and lifted our spirits and helped keep focused and positive. Now a drink is in order! Gary & Sue :jiggy:

  13. Hi all, Victoria released their SMP today (1 Nov 2010), one day before they formally enter caretaker mode for the state election. Some MODL/CSL IT occupations/specialisations have been preserved in the new SMP, so that would be good news for people holding 2231-79 MODL/CSL type assessment letters. More here: Eligibility Lists - Live in Victoria and Ptlabs Consulting - Articles on Australian Immigration Cheers Peter
  14. DIAC finally says something about the SMP! Check it out! http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/statmig-fs.pdf

  16. ACT Government State Website is showing undermentioned message on their website which states October for release of SMP. Now they will be changing this message and showing some information like November or in few weeks. ACT will inquire with DIAC to confirm when they can expect SMP and according to that they will provide information on their website. So the only state which we can look for more information on release of SMP is ACT. Message showing on 1st Nov 2010 on ACT website :- 2010/2011 ACT State Migration Plan (SMP) Skills List. It is expected that the 2010/2011 SMP Skills List will be published in October 2010 when the ACT State Migration Plan is announced.
  17. Gosh, it feels like deja vu! Doesn't this sound like the time when DIAC was about to release the SMP in July when suddenly the Federal govt entered Caretaker period for the election?!?! Really pray hard that the SMP is released on 1st Nov! Otherwise, hope that SMP is not affected by the Vict. State Election for those Vict. sponsored applicants awaiting Victoria's SMP. ********************* State Government Victoria: Caretaker Period - Live in Victoria State Government Victoria: Caretaker Period 29 October 2010 Department websites and other websites maintained or funded by the State As the Victorian State election will be held on Saturday 27 November 2010, the Victorian Government has assumed a caretaker role from 2 November. During the caretaker period, content will only be added to this website in accordance with the caretaker conventions.
  18. Hi everyone, I’ll be arriving in Adelaide for a very very brief reccie on the above dates. I’d love to meet up with someone to be shown the town and get the low down of living/working in Oz. Single male, young free and a bit of a wannabe surf dude! Emigrating on my own next year. Already got my visa, itching to make the move early to mid 2011. Just need to tie-up all the usual loose ends in the UK. Anyone free? Day or night I don’t mind, I’d love to get your insights into life down under. Jez

Sydney here we come 6 Nov

Hi moving to Sydney 6 Nov to be will the family Karen:biggrin:
  20. Hi I am escaping my solitary confinement in the country to spend a few days in Sydney to attend TAM - The Amazing Meeting . (Its 'amazing' that I am able to get away.) I am going on my own and won't know anyone there. I have been to a couple of conferences (Festival of Dangerous Ideas in 2009 and the Atheist Conference in March this year) in the last couple of years, people attending tend to be clicky and have their own little gangs. Going on my own is challenging so I was wondering if anyone here is going to this event. I am arriving in Sydney on Thursday 25th Nov and leave on the afternoon of the 1st Dec. There is a pub meet up on the Thursday evening,TAMOz Skeptics in the Pub Meet and Greet - The Sydney Sceptics Meetup Group (Sydney) - Meetup which I have decided to go to (you don’t have to be going to the conference to go to it) from Friday lunch time to Sunday afternoon I will be at the conference, but, outside of that I will be playing tourist. Being on my own is limiting so if there is any chance of meeting people that would be great - I will be staying at the Ibis World Square. In particular I would like to have people to meet with for an evening meal, finding somewhere decent to eat on my own (without too much embarrassment) is always difficult, I don’t want to end up in fast food joints.

  22. Hi there! I'm in the process of finalising a move to Melbourne at rather short notice. I am looking for a room ideally with garage or off street parking. Granny flat would be perfect. Rather concerned at logging on to websites that ask for my "orientation" as a lead question for accomodation sharing! 50 year old male, married, two kids in UK. Family will follow after school exams finish in July next year. This has been so sudden we have not been able to plan ahead at all. So if anyone hears of anything please let me know. Non smoker, happy to pitch in around the house, used to kids/dogs etc. I'm a retailer and will travel quite extensively around Aus as well as the Far East on occassion( should that be near East I wonder?), so not going to be around all the time. Need someone for my motorbike if i bring it over, or if I buy one locally. Consider myself quite house trained ( read nagged)!! References available as company director.
  23. hey , We are a british couple mid 30s with no pets.We have lived in sydney for the past year with great rental refs.Depending on price we will want the rental for a month at first maybe longer if we like it. greatful for any help.

    Moving to Canberra Nov 2010

Hi, I'm British & in my early 20s and lived in Canberra for the previous year with my boyfriend. I returned to UK in June to submit an offshore spouse visa which is due to be granted at the end of Oct & therefore i intend to be back in Canberra Nov 2010. Just wondered if there are any people around my age group to meet up with to help make new friends.
  25. Hi there Moving to Melbourne in Novemebr hopefully and wanted to put a heads up note looking for a room for myself. 50y male, married moving ahead of the family who will follow after O-levels are over in July. Non smoker , comapny director of a major retailer. Anyone hearing of anything please drop me a note. Have company offer of hotel or flat, but would prefer to have people around me, rather than sitting like "Billy no-mates" in my hotel. Office is near the zoo if that helps, but happy to do a reasonable commute as apparently against the traffic from CBD etc. Granny flat or similar would be great, ideally with parking available for car/motorcycle. Thanks in advance. Nigel
