Playghirl
Does anyone have any tried and tested recipes for yoghurt. We like the Greek yoghurt and at 6.00 a tub, is pricey when you go through as many tubs as we do a week!
tonyman
PG , i go late night shopping for the marked down gear as we are a family of seven , last week the large tubs of greek yoghurt were only $2 each so got three ,we love it with honey and i just put it in sealed tubs for their school lunches ...beats $5 for the six packs
Playghirl
Good strategy. I very rarely see the marked down yoghurt. For the packed lunches I only buy on special and then freeze.

Skani
A friend of mine loves her special yoghurt maker. I don't have one myself but there are some reviews here: http://www.productreview.com.au/p/easiyo-yogurt-maker.html

LKC
I make my own yoghurt, I have an electric yoghurt maker which keeps it warm for 24 hours - it makes lovely thick yoghurt. My recipe is 1.5 litres water, 2.25 cups of powdered milk, 0 - 3 tbsp sugar depending on what I want the yoghurt for, 8 drops calcium chloride and then a few specks of yoghurt culture and probiotic culture which I store in my freezer. Parley
I didn't think you were supposed to freeze dairy products.

JockinTas
Looks easy enough: http://greenlivingaustralia.com.au/yoghurt-kefir/yoghurt/cultures Dead easy. I've been making my own for years. A lot of the supermarket yoghurts contain a fair percentage of sugar.
LKC
Looks easy enough: http://greenlivingaustralia.com.au/yoghurt-kefir/yoghurt/cultures This is where I get my yoghurt cultures from. It is really easy to make.
Guest
I make my own. Also cheat a bit with an EasiYo https://www.easiyo.com/shopping/landing-au.html 1L sachets we buy in bulk online and cost half the price of a tub of yogurt. FWIW I no longer buy or make Greek yogurt due to the waste of product. Its a very wasteful process and as lovely as it is, I can't justify that much waste. http://modernfarmer.com/2013/05/whey-too-much-greek-yogurts-dark-side/

Thanks for the link, it was an interesting read. There is a tiny bit of whey at the top when I make yoghurt, but I stir it in. I once tried to make labneh cheese from some of my yoghurt, quite a bit of whey came out but we didn't like the cheese so I haven't made it since.
