I'll kick things off.. Weather - great to have sun in the summer and spring as its meant to be! Higher wages (helps with some higher costs) Laid back, friendly people (I'm from London so I am comparing to my daily commute on the Tube and working in the city!) Drivers sticking to speed limits! Reasonable house prices (again, comparing from London where the value of my 2 bed flat can get me a 5 bed new build in Melbourne! Coffees and coffee culture. Never ending list of places to visit - things to see and do. Wide range of sports available for children (competitive instead of everyone wins like in the UK). Parks everywhere with children play areas. School placement policy - guaranteed places if living within a certain distance of a school (my little one was rejected by his three closest schools in the UK) Would love to hear others. Freckleface Posted May 10, 2014 Share Posted May 10, 2014 The things I love include, but are not limited to, the following: - the diversity of climates and landscapes - big blue skies - the fact people can still achieve their dreams if they are prepared to put some effort in - long hot summers - summer storms that roll in late in the afternoon after a hot day - sitting outside on summer nights listening to insects and looking at the night sky - beautiful beaches and the fact there are so many you don't have too share them with everyone else if you don't want to - space, there is lots and lots of space - the fact Aust and Aussies in general look to the future with hope and optimism - there is a sport for everyone and everyone can join in if they want to - the way people from so many different counties work and live together in relative harmony - that it is half a world away from Europe but nice and close to interesting and vibrant countries in Asia and the pacific - the diversity of wildlife - the sense of community - good sized houses with yards big enough for children to play in - superannuation - people know how to change lanes when driving - that cars are parked in the direction of the traffic (it looks neater) assuming they aren't in a garage - houses have a laundry (even the cheap houses migrants rent until they buy their own) - people say hello, how are you rather than scowl in shops - people ask what you did on the weekend and know you will have done something other than watch TV or sit in a pub - range of activities on offer - people not only welcome children to venues or activities they expect you will bring them - people don't care what you are born with - life doesn't revolve around pubs - migrants are welcomed even the ones who bag the country, leave and want to come back That's it for now although I could go on :laugh: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Came from Leichardt this am over Anzac bridge, round Darling Harbour and over SHB, love it Being able to commute on pushbike, keeps me fit and makes me very happy** *Shame about the crappy insulation ** Shame about the crappy pushbike provision Sorry. Outstanding sea food / sea food restaurants - sadly I'm allergic to it, but my neighbours regularly tell me how good it is. AFL - some of the best AFL teams in the world are Australian. Coffee - Melbourne (where I live) is known all over Australia and maybe even internationally for the quality of it's coffee. We even have schools where Baristas can learn to be even better at making coffee. Boating, camping and fishing - loads of places where you can go and do these things for very little money. Rupert Posted May 10, 2014 Share Posted May 10, 2014 Blue skies Clear night skies (as an amateur astronomer) Colourful birds and also white cockatoos The excitement of seeing wild kangaroos (although Aussies do not get this at all and tend to see kangaroos as vermin) Easy access to beautiful beaches and the ocean Climate Diversity of landscape, fauna and flora. My commute over the harbour bridge in the morning, still not tired of those views and I have made the trip ten times a week for four year now! Uncrowded compared to London or other major UK cities. Karenbfam Posted May 10, 2014 Share Posted May 10, 2014 Hanging your washing out every day, even undercover in the winter. having doors and windows open in the evenings apart from winter! the big parking spaces my job oh how I love my job as an ex NHS nurse!!!! my wages and the fact I am paid fortnightly driving around Adelaide, it's great! my work colleagues who have just welcomed me so readily the empty beach 15 mins walk away i feel so much healthier and happier my family have also settled amazingly sitting with a glass of wine watching the sunset coffee in lovely outdoor coffee shops the fact I don't have to travel miles to buy furniture etc the wine the wine oh and the wine!!!!! loads of others but can't think at the moment Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
