There is no logic to how they seem to grant the second stage. My partners eligibility was June 2015. Applied on line July 2015 and granted January 2016. Was prepared for a very long wait so totally took us by surprise!

I have a 175 visa and had activated it but never moved to Oz. Met my partner and plans to move put on hold. After we had lived together we applied for a partner visa, which was granted after we moved here. My partner came on a tourist visa and then had to leave to activate. So you don't have to have lived in Oz to do this. Hope this helps.

It seems very hit and miss with regards to the second stage of the partner visa. We are on shore and my partners application could go in end of June 2015. He submitted it July 2015 and it was granted January 2016.

You don't have to live in Oz to apply for a partner visa. I had only validated my pr visa and then sponsored my partner while we were still in the UK. We moved to Oz just prior to grant with my partner entering on a tourist visa. Case officer kept fully up to date of our plans.

We moved to Oz last year and left my 20 year old daughter at uni in the UK. She was in the third year of a four year course and she decided that she wanted to finish her course. We had to move as our PR visas were expiring (events had stopped us moving earlier). She had fantastic support from my sister and brotherinlaw in the UK. We paid for her to come over last Easter and at Christmas and in the long summer holiday she worked in France. She was lucky enough to get a RRV granted. We FaceTime all the time and we are extremely proud of her. Her course finishes next week and she has a one way ticket to Oz arriving on 28/4. Again her decision to miss her graduation as we would have gone back to the UK if she had decided to stay. As long as you have your visa you have so many options when your course finishes. Good luck but you will be fine. Australia is only a flight away and as your parents are paying for your visits in the holidays you will probably see them as much as you would have if they were in the UK.

I had pr and had never lived in Oz only activated my visa 3 years previously. My partner applied for partner visa with me as sponser, off shore and it was granted. We did however, arrive in Oz with him on a tourist visa as my visa was due to expire, keeping our case officer fully informed of our plans. It was 8 months post application and 3 days prior to mine expiring so couldn't leave it any longer and that was when it was 8-9 months processing times. He got his visa granted a few days after we arrived so then had to go off shore. If we hadn't arrived in Oz it may not have been granted. Who knows??

With regards to question 2 the answer you have received is incorrect. i had my 175 visa granted in Feb 2009. I validated it in Oct 2009 and was all set to move to Oz early 2011. I then met my partner and put my plans on hold. I had never lived in Oz only having activated my visa and after my partner and I had lived together in the UK for 12 months he applied for a partner visa with me as his sponsor in June 2013. We arrived in Oz 2 days before my visa expired in Feb 2014. His partner visa did not come through in time so he travelled on a tourist visa keeping his case officer fully up to date of our plans. His partner visa was granted 3 days after we arrived and he flew to New Zealand for 72 hours to activate it (he had to go alone as my visa had expired). It was very straightforward and we did the application independently and had no house bills together as I moved into his existing home. So this would be the easiest option for you. If I can help at all please ask. Oh and I am 46 and my partner 57 so age didn't hinder our application either. We have now been in Oz nearly a year and love it, best thing we have ever done. karen

Hi Can anyone help with a query . I have pr and my partner has the first stage of the partner visa. We arrived in Feb this year and are feeling settled, so much so we are looking at buying a house. The 2nd stage of my partners visa which will give him pr is due next June. Can we buy a property with him not having pr ? and if something happened to me prior to him getting pr would he have to leave Australia? Any help or advice with this would be great. thanks Karen

Our experience was excellent. We had a large movecube and was quoted I think 83 days. We worked out roughly when we would need it and sent our stuff exactly 83 days early, thinking we could manage by borrowing easier in the UK than in Adelaide. We sent beds, units, personal things, clothes, golf clubs etc etc. Filled it within an inch of its life. It was made very clear we had 3 hours to pack it. Customer service was excellent. We were concerned we would exceed our weight limit but received an email the day after collection telling us our weight which was within limit. We were told what ship it was on and was able to track it. Arrived in Adelaide and found our long term rental. Contacted seven seas and was told it was still on track to arrive after 83 days. We got the keys for our rental on Thursday. Movecube came Friday (the day we requested) and we moved in Sunday. Excellent and everyone we spoke to or dealt with was great. Not one thing was damaged although shoes and golf clubs had been checked, which we had packed last as advised. We would definitely recommend them. Oh and naughty as it was we didn't bother with insurance as it was mainly stuff that couldn't be replaced. karen

Hi yes you can apply for a partner visa as I was in the same boat as you. I had a 175 visa that I had activated but never lived in Oz. Met my partner While still in UK. Applied after we had lived together for 12 months as per the requirements for a partner visa. Our timings were very tight. Partner visa wasn't granted in time so we emigrated and my partner had to arrive on a tourist visa. We had no choice as my 175 visa expired 3 days after I arrived. Our case officer was aware of this. 3 days after we arrived she granted the partner visa and my partner had to go to New Zealand for 3 days. We feel that possibly our visa was never going to be granted until we had moved because if mine had expired my partner would have still been able to go to Oz (if this makes sense). good luck karen

Hanging your washing out every day, even undercover in the winter. having doors and windows open in the evenings apart from winter! the big parking spaces my job oh how I love my job as an ex NHS nurse!!!! my wages and the fact I am paid fortnightly driving around Adelaide, it's great! my work colleagues who have just welcomed me so readily the empty beach 15 mins walk away i feel so much healthier and happier my family have also settled amazingly sitting with a glass of wine watching the sunset coffee in lovely outdoor coffee shops the fact I don't have to travel miles to buy furniture etc the wine the wine oh and the wine!!!!! loads of others but can't think at the moment

Nic i can sympathise with you totally. I lost my mum nearly 12 years ago. She was only 58 and her illness was short and sudden. I can tell you it was the worse thing to ever happen to me, much worse than my horrible divorce after 21 years of marriage! All I can tell you is the first year is the worse and it does get easier, only because I think you learn to remember the good times and not concentrate on the end (if that makes sense!). It still hurts like mad and I miss my mum every day but life does go on. Don't make any rash decisions. Enjoy your holiday, continue to grieve and look at the wonderful legacy, your family that your mum has left. Karen

Myself, my partner and my eldest daughter have just emigrated to oz. Our pr visa expired just after we arrived. My youngest daughter is in her 3rd year of a 4year degree so she obviously didn't want to quit to come with us but at the moment wants to come out when she finishes in May 2015. I have been reading up about the possibility of her applying for a RRV. Having never lived in oz she may qualify for a one year one. My question is she is coming out to visit end of March for 3 weeks, if she came on a tourist visa would she then be able to apply for the RRV next year? If she applied for a RRV now and it is granted for a year, could she apply for another next year? Not really sure which way to go. Thanks Karen

My partner applied for a defacto visa as me with the sponsor holding a pr visa but never having lived in oz and not being in oz at time of application and it was granted.

I am frantically packing for our move cube that comes tomorrow. Just started bubble wrapping lamps and wondered if they are worth bringing. Are the light bulbs in oz the same fixings?? May be a stupid question but thought I would check. thanks karen

My line manager who has told me she supports it! I have just rang the RCN who told me to apply and if it gets turned down to contact them and they will support me through an appeal. They said that they have to have a very good reason to turn it down. Thanks for your reply

Just wondering if anyone that has moved to Oz has taken a career break from the NHS. I was planning on doing this but have today been told don't bother applying as we won't grant it!!! I have worked for the same employer for 10 years, had 2 days off sick in those 10 years and worked my way up to a Band 6. I was told that I am a 'valued member of the team' which I found quite insulting. Am I being unfair? I hope we settle in oz, but as we can't sell our house and are going to have to rent it out and we have grown up children that are staying in the UK, I suppose it was a little bit of security if we wanted to come back. I really feel for you. We are leaving for Adelaide next February. We have four kids between us aged between 20 and 25 and they won't be coming. We are 56 and 46 and just feel that's its an opportunity we need to try. I got my visa four years ago and we are waiting for a partner visa to be approved. Our four kids are gradually fleeing the nest and my youngest will still be at uni when we go. We could stay here, miss the chance and our kids end up all over the world and we regret not trying!! It's hard but the world is a small place now with the Internet. Could you persuade your son to defer his place? Good luck with what you decide. Hi all. My partner recently had his chest x-ray during his medical and was told all was ok. About 10 days later we received a call to say there was a problem and that they thought he had the remains of an infection. He went to his GP who has given him antibiotics and suggested he has a repeat x ray in 6 weeks. Does this mean presuming this sorts the problem, that his medical will automatically be referred. Anyone with any advice or help as we are really worried now. thanks
