Nickystar
Hi, if I get an invite to apply for a 189 visa do you need to supply a CV and references and all of that... Just wondering as if so I may try and get written references sorted in advance. Not applying for points for experience as only taught for 2 years but still. dmjg
my girlfriends sitting at the dinning table with me marking her brain dissection kids work. Shes been turned into a Math/Science teacher as well strange how they do that here Very few pure mathematicians/accountants have the ability to deal with other adults let alone a bunch of unruly kids. Thus science teachers are used to fill up maths allotments. They at least have learnt maths to second year or so university level. Very few other degrees do so. I know I have made huge generalisations about mathematicians, but it is mostly true. I can't see many of them who wouldn't prefer to chew off their own arm than spend 23 hours a week with 25 teenagers in one room........ Tigerstripes
Hi, I'm uploading my documents to my application but unsure about this: Did everyone upload both degree and PGCE certificates for proof of education? Did you also upload transcripts for one/both or just the certificate?
TeacherBen
Hi tigerstripes, I uploaded it all just to be sure Cheers Teacherben
Sahara77
Hi tigerstripes you will need to upload both transcripts and certificates for your degree and PCGE as proof you have 4 years of tertiary study. You need to prove you completed as well as passed. I hope this helps. cheers.
Vanduex
Yup upload it all. Just submitted my documents to QCT. Says it is going to take 12 weeks! Couldn't believe it. AITSL took 12 weeks and now QCT another 12 . . . .

AITSL took 12 weeks and now QCT another 12 . . . . They are two different processes. Each state has a teacher registration board and they ultimately decide if someone can teach. Always a long process...

It's a ridiculous amount of time; especially if you already have AITSL certificate.

Each state has different requirements and whilst some units studied may be good enough, for example in the NT, another state such as NSW (who are very stringent) may well say they do not fulfill requirements. The teaching boards have the final say as to whether teaching registration will be handed out. Not many people seem to realise that. It is the units studied within the degree that matter for the individual boards. What needs to be realised is that the teaching registration boards are totally separate governing bodies to AITSL and they have literally hundreds of new teachers and graduates to register each year. Just because someone has passed AITSL does not mean it will be any quicker.. Edited February 15, 2014 by Sammy1

I am wondering why it is then that they register someone as simply a secondary teacher then as opposed to a Chemistry or Mathematics teacher? If they are being more stringent about units they should specify the specialism on the individual's registration IMO.

This has proved a stumbling block for some who have not completed enough maths or literacy units in their initial degree. In WA that would be fine, in NSW it would not. Coolbreeze
Seeing as we are on the topic of registering with individual state's teaching boards - any chance someone can help me with the SA TRB? I wanted to get ahead and register before I arrive in Oz. However, it would appear that I would need to attend mandatory, one day child protection course. This course, it would seem, needs to be attended by registered institution, in Oz. Does this mean I have no choice but to wait? OR As most states have a 'mutual agreement' (as stated on SA, ACT,NT,QLD TRB sites) on transferring teaching licenses - could I say, register in QLD, but then just transfer the license over? Or, would this still require the one day mandatory child protection training. Any knowledge welcome please...Thanks in advance
Vanduex
Not 100% to be honest. But I was told to register with with QCT and others may look favourable on it as they have the mutual agreement. Can't hurt to have registration with one of them. Takes as long as AITSL though so get it in gear :-p Have just submitted all the QCT paperwork. Nothing overly complex in there. TeacherBen
I think I read somewhere that NSW is the only one that doesn't accept others as registration - so you have to do it separately for NSW but only one for the rest. Can't remember where mind you...

Can't remember where mind you... Hey mate, hope all is well with you. Just had a little search on the net and found: ''So if you have current Full Registration from another Australian state or territory, the Institute will verify this with that teacher registration authority and then change your accreditation status to Professional Competence/Proficient Teacher.'' This came from the NSW teaching page so hopefully it should be ok. SMART also mentioned NSW as an example state that has good interstate links with QLD. My fingers are crossed! Vanduex
This is the full quote. Less sure now! The Institute cannot recognise your interstate registration until you are provisionally or conditionally accredited. Once this has occurred, you will be required to meet the Standards for Professional Competence/Proficient Teacher. However, Full Registration from another Australian state or territory equates to Professional Competence/Proficient Teacher in NSW. So if you have current Full Registration from another Australian state or territory, the Institute will verify this with that teacher registration authority and then change your accreditation status to Professional Competence/Proficient Teacher. TeacherBen
Yeah all good thanks! Sounds like the bit to follow...it makes sense to apply to one and be able to be registered in all!
