Hello!

My name is Beccy and I am near the end of my 2nd year training on a diploma course. Me and my partner would love to come to Australia (looking at Queensland) as soon as possible from me qualifying! However, from doing some reading around we know it might not happen!

I have looked into the graduate nursing scheme, however on the queensland health website it says you can only apply once your right to work has been granted. So I would need a visa and to register with AHPRA right? On the AHPRA site it says newly qualified diploma nurses without experience are considered on a case by case basis (to do the grad scheme you arent allowed to work as an RN beforehand). So, I am not sure how to go about it?

Would there be more chance of AHPRA allowing me to register if I have been offered a job somewhere? Or is there a visa I can get that wouldnt need me to be AHPRA registered, then I could apply for a job and then apply to AHPRA? I would be happy to work as an RN without doing the grad scheme, so have emailed a few hospitals, but it looks like the hardest bit is going to be to sort out registration.

Any tips/pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Beccy

I can't believe it, I finally have my 'in principle' letter from AHPRA, it was not easy they kept asking for more documents, saying that they haven't received them then needing time to process them, after 4 weeks of being fobbed off with regards to the last document I asked to speak to a manager, who said that she didn't understand the hold-up and that she would get me a response within 3 working days. 3 working days later i got it via e-mail. I can't believ it, I am so chuffed! Now the visa process. Eeeek!!!

ooh congratulations Ive just looked at the AHPRA forms and all the docs you need :err:

So I was reading from your previous posts that you applied direct to hospital for job first, then AHPRA, now visa...I'm wondering what I need to do first! What's your first steps in applying for a visa are you doing it diret through DIAC? Or via an agency like Geneva Health?

Hi,

I am new to this and have a few questions- We have applied for 176 Visa, I passed the skills assessment and under the new regulations (post 1st July 2011) i paod the AUS$100 to get a letter of recognition from the ANMAC to confirm i have been assessed. The wa State sponsorship has been lodged and currently i am putting together my DIAC application and supporting information.

My question is at what stage should i be applying to Western Australia APHRA for my registration? and does anyone know if this letter form ANMAC have any relavence to my APHRA appplication?

we are planning on making the move August 2012

Ta,

Hi Orla, i believe you can ask ANMAC to pass all your documents to AHPRA, i'm sure others who have done this will confirm it. I am applying for a 457 so have just applied to AHPRA in Perth. I am still waiting for a decision.

Hi Sarah,

i asked our migration company about this and they said the same but some nurses seem to be having a nightmare trying to get registered with APHRA- does anyone know if you go via the ANMAC (having passed this skills assessment) does this speed up the process with APHRA?

Any nurses apply for 176 visa and done the ANMAC skills assessment -has anyone run into problems or delays with APHRA to register???? also how long is it taking to get registered???, 0-3months, 3-6 mths or 6+mths???

Any Feedback greatly appreciated

Orla:wink:

Well i would probably apply for AHPRA first. It has taken me almost 6 months so would do that as early as you can. The job that I applied for told me that they are no longer allowed to sponsor me for the visa until I have my AHPRA 'in principle' letter. So now i have just applied for the visa. As I have already got a job, the HR dept have put sponsored me through a 457 visa so they have told me to apply online and given me their sponsorship number. They do the nomination bit and then i do the 2nd bit. Direct or through an agency like Geneva it doesn't make any difference. If ypu have secured a job then they will help you with the visa and AHPRA side of it just like an agency would,

PM me if i can be of any more specific help

Hi Orla

AHPRA received my application 11 July but my uni transcript arrived a week or so after this. I received a further email 24 August requesting further info so i have been sorting this out hope to get the last of it this week as my manager has been on annual leave. So that's another 2 weeks wait for the post to deliver it then hopefully i will be eligible for registration. However, i applied for a job last Thursday and have been emailed today to set up a phone interview. I am in major panic mode now lol. Hopefully your AHPRA experience will be easier as you have your skills assessment.

Good luck

Hi all,

I'm finding the whole ANMAC and APHRA thing a little confusing. We have permanent residency granted and are looking to move over when we activate round about March-May next year, and I've done the skills assessment with ANMAC. I emailed APHRA yesterday to see if they would forward my documents, they replied this morning saying they would.

My question is, (if anyone can help) what do I need to send to APHRA if the ANMAC are sending my docs and how much is it? Also Is registration in Australia similiar to the uk in that we have to re-register every year?:wub::wubclub:

Confused

Hi,

Not sure about the 1st part of your question but i do know that you have to do the annual renewal as in the UK because my mum is over there as a nurse and she does.

Having one of those is it all worth it days?

Everything appeared to be ticking along, and thanks to all on this site, I did expect possibly a 6 month process time for AHPRA registration.

Have now received an email from AHPRA (after 6 months) asking for amongst other things

Education: a full academic transcript is required along with a breakdown of the theoretical subject hours and clinical practice undertaken as part of your studies

the problem is: my Diploma in Specialised nursing was done part time in 1995 and although I have the transcript I can't get the information regarding theoretical hours and clinical hours. Also due to the length of time AHPRA is taking, my NMC registration needed renewing in July this year (which i have done) but now AHPRA want

Certificate of registration status: You are required to arrange for an original certificate to be forwarded directly from the NMC to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

so it looks like i will have to pay another £34.

I know it will be worth it in the end but on this grey and rainy day I'm feeling ****ed off

Dear Fluffyhead,

Sorry to hear your not feeling it today, and wish I could help, but let me tell you, you are right it will be worth it! I keep myself sane by looking forward to the day when we step off that plane on the other side with beaming smiles looking forward to the bright future

Hope you get sorted soon x:wubclub::hug:

Hi Fluffy

Pls don't despair. My AHPRA took over 6 months and it felt like forever. I had frequent *****ed off days and many where I nearly threw it all in !! They kept asking for more and more info, said my post reg courses weren't good enough etc etc. I eventually had to shell out another £400 to pay for an Open University course - which AHPRA then said was ok !!

But ..... the day the AHPRA eligible to register letter came through, out of the blue was the most amazing feeling in the world - absolute relief and elation (much better feeling even than when visa granted to be honest)

So, what I'm trying to say is dont give up, hang on in there, it will happen and when it does - It will be great

Good Luck

Fluffyhead, I know exactly how you are feeling, i swear i could have wrote this myself a few months back, i had all this with AHPRA including daily phone calls to them at one point and it was like their left hand did not know what their right one was doing. They asked me for that uni transcript with the breakdown of hours, i contacted the uni who were prepared to send it direct to AHPRA (at a fee to me!) Speak with NMC you shouldn't have to send it twice even if you need to renew your registration in the UK.

I often had days where i thought why bother, one day i told my husband that i thought it was a sign that we were not meant to go. But i persevered and i got there almost 6months later, you will too and it will be worth it. Stick in there, keep chasing them and i found that things got done when they e-mailed teh different departments, e.g. if the nursing dept e-mails the reg dept as they have deadlines of usually 2 working days to get back to you with an answer.

xx

Thanks again for the responses. I just love this site and hope that one day we will meet and say "do you remember ************ AHPRA" and be able to laugh about it. Well today is another day and I have emailed the NMC again, and contacted the university. Got the usual automated email from NMC and sounds like a bad time to be ringing the universities. So I'm being positive and not going to reach for the bottle of wine tonight! I'm going to do some deep breathing and relaxation.

Deep breathing is the way forward!!!! Also do you know that you can phone the verifications dept direct at the NMC on 0207 681 5627 may be quicker than waiting for e-mail repsonses.

Hi, we are travelling end of October to Melbourne and hubby who is a nurse starts his job on the 7th November, before he starts he has to go to one of these APHRA offices and they said the registration is done straight away. So we hope so.

Just wanted to find out, if hubby is in 70 000 a year, that's before any unsocial hours, how much would he bring home monthly after tax? And can we survive on his income only? We have a 2 year old son. Thanks

Hi,

My wife is also a nurse and just received an email about the eligibility from AHPRA and we are hoping to move to Sydney as I am in IT support. We have 7 years old son so just guessing how much the salary will be. My wife is registered with NMC in March 2005 and working for NHS without any gap. How many years experience your hubby has got? I think the pay depends upon the number of experience (Max 8 years).

thanks...Mansawant

Hi Terri,

I'm currently living in Perth wanting to relocate to Melbourne within the next year or so.

I earn $76,760 ($4000 per month in my hand) on a top level 2 as a Child Health Nurse and I do extra babysitting on top of my main job and just about break even even though I'm careful with money. Perth is very expensive to live not sure about Melbourne which I think it is a bit cheaper and has good public transsport.

I think you will struggle on one wage and I think you will need to work part time at least to afford a few luxuries like holidays, meals out etc. If you are super efficient with your money and really strict you could do it but only just and money would be tight.

Hope this helps?

Hi Angie

I have just arrived in Perth (mid Aug) on my husbands skilled visa. Not sure where in Aussie you are but we are in Perth. I took my original docs to the Friendlys chemist Nr the AHPRA offices in Subiaco. They charge approx $1 per copy and it is recognised by AHPRA too as they directed me here.

Hope this helps x
