Could we still make the move if we're 40?

We were well into the process of emigrating with our three children. Our youngest son 3 has been diagnosed with autism and we feel it better to

wait a few years to get him the best support he needs here rather than tackle the unknown in Oz where we'd be sort of left to fend for ourselves.

Have any of you guys made the move in your late 30's or early 40's?

I'm 36 now and my wife is 35. We would still qualify on the points system with our jobs (carpenter/ teacher)

I'd just like to get any info or advice from people who are maybe in our situation

Happy New Year Guys!!

Hi

I'm 44 and my OH is 47. We're in the final stages (hopefully) and will both be another year older by the time we would be ready to leave.

Go for it.

wife 41, me 43, daughter 19.

Moved November 2012 on a rsms 119 visa.

Didn't hang around, visa approved October 11th, was in Hobart Nov 9th.

Settling in nicely.

If more poms moved to Tasmania instead of 'Perth' I'd guarantee there would be far fewer returning to blighty. The obsession with Perth really is odd.

Hi,

- We are both past 40 and are moving next year. Have you considered about still applying for your visa now as you normally have about 4/5 years to take up residency once approved. You do have to do an initial entry in the first twelve months though.

- Sorry to hear about your son. I don't know much about Autism, but wish him and your family all the best.

- It might be worth checking whether your sons condition might affect your visas as everyone will require medicals. Our daughter was found to have a heart murmur and she had to be referred to a specialist before our visas were granted. I know this isn't a positive comment, but it might be worth checking up on before you get too far down the road.

Wish you all the best and I hope that whatever decision you make, it's the right one for all of you.

Rich

Once visas are granted you have 5 years to make the move ( but you need to validate within 1 year). Migration regulations are changing every year no body could tell you if in a few years time you would still be eligible. With your sons diagnosis it would be worth speaking to a registered migration agent as you might have issues passing the medical. If you haven't started the process yet it can take months to get all the skills assessments and IELTS together before you can lodge application. If Australia is what you want would consider starting sooner rather than later.

Thanks for all the comments guys!!

The fortunate thing regarding Jude is that we realised early on that he had autistic traits. (My wife teaches soecial needs)

Early intervention is the key and to get a confirmed diagnosis at 3 allows us to implement different learning techniques which

apply to him. He is coming on leaps and bounds and he has no other learning difficulties such as adhd etc... so we're feeling positive that

he will be able to go to a mainstream school at some point but we are ensuring he gets the best possible start to his education.

Fingers crossed things work out and with a lot of family already settled in Melbourne we know we'll get plenty of support if we do move.

I'll carry the dream into 2013 but whatever will be will be! You never know what life will throw at you!!

Thanks Peter...

Good Luck Peter , we're from Crossgar and move in 7 days , I'm 44 but my other half is a young 38 ! We're moving with our 5 year old daughter to Melbourne. Hopefully we'll see you out there ! I was a Special Needs Nurse.

All the best Diane!! Exciting times!! Our ones all live in Rowville in the suburbs so hopefully thats where we'll be heading!!

This whole flag carry on over here has surged my ambition to leave here. Everything seems to just stagnate over here without any progress for the good of everyone and

I'm fed up with it!! Safe trip and good luck to you!!

I know Peter , we're a mixed marriage , and the flag issue was just unbelievable. Not going to miss any of the politics , lol. Hope everything goes smoothly for you all. Give us a shout when you arrive. We're also on a facebook page , Irish Families in Melbourne.
