    Defining moment.

It's a gradual thing, we were hoping and hoping and hoping that things were going to get better in Oz. After a few months they weren't so that's when I decided that my family and I were better off back home in the UK before we got sucked into the aussie way and couldn't get back. Hate to say it we've been back 12 months now and haven't looked back. Good luck on whatever you choose.

    Plumber beginning the visa process

Could I ask that you go on the sister site "poms in Adelaide", and read the "plumbing thread" and "warning to plumbers" thread by Dalton, It's "bib and braces" stuff and tells you how it is, with both the pros and cons as a plumber and the training and the RPL for your cert 3 and the training required for your cert 4. It is factual and straight to the point. Its worth a read. hope this helps.

    Whats for Dinner/Tea?

Roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, including proper home made yorkies. Followed by strawberries and ice cream all washed down with a couple of San Miguel's.
  8. Just give your new employer your NI number when you start your job.

    Shipping costs

Our quote for a 20' container was $6450 from Adelaide back to the UK and $10k for a 40' container. Hope this helps.

I know no one will care but...........

Good luck mate, be positive in everything you do....I'm sure the move and stuff will work itself out. If you have to work hard for something, then it's worth having and you'll appreciate it more. life is for living, not regretting.

I know no one will care but...........

Na Baz, there was very good aspects and positives in Oz mate...just riding on a high in the UK ATM. you know as well as me there are positives and negatives in both countries. Wether I'm here or there I'm enjoying life because all is good with me ATM CBA with them and us stuff, I've moved on and there is no bitterness. Still haven't dismissed the Ping pong pom aspect in me yet...6 months here and 6 months there, best of both. hope all is good with you Baz and things are going in the right direction.

I know no one will care but...........

IKNOWCB, sorry haven't had much input lately but been very busy keeping the M6 and M1 running freely.....no rest for the wicked, must have been a good boy in Aus as there wasn't enough work when I was there. Their loss my gain, should be back on form in the forum once work has slowed down. Don't you just love the UK with full time garunteed income, generous overtime, industry and construction boom, plenty of work, cheep food and competition from the main suppliers, oh not forgetting the mild winter and the lovely weather we are having, and an average of 6% house price increase with demand outweighing supply, inducing the developers to build with a change in change of land legislation on brown field sites. God save our Queen and country.....off to play Jerusalem and swing low sweet chariot ;-) lol

So you are going back/have gone back...why?

We Moved back to the UK for a better lifestyle, better career, closer to family, more diversity in my life rather than the generic Aussie lifestyle, better build quality of my house, to earn better money, living in a country with old buildings history and architecture and as I've been there seen it and done it, it wasn't for me although my family and I have the life experience if living down under. The journey down under isn't for everyone and for you going back may be stupid as you are enjoying it ATM in Oz, but for others it's a right decision to move back and experience another adventure.
