  1. So far nobody has been subject to the penalties and there is debate on whether the penalty is constitutional.
  2. Did you provide his visa application TRN in the travel exemption request?
  3. You do not need an exemption to fly to NZ, and NZ does not stop anyone from leaving. However, you do need to be prepared for potential penalties upon re-entry into Australia if you take the NZ route as Greg Hunt has signed that into law when the travel bubble started.
  4. Plenty of people have travelled out via NZ: https://www.smh.com.au/national/i-ve-escaped-aussies-use-kiwi-bubble-as-back-door-to-defy-travel-ban-20210422-p57lne.html
  5. https://www.smh.com.au/national/i-ve-escaped-aussies-use-kiwi-bubble-as-back-door-to-defy-travel-ban-20210422-p57lne.html ‘I’ve escaped!’: Aussies use Kiwi bubble as back door to defy travel ban
  6. In case they refuse your exemption request, and provided that you are OK with the potential penalties (I don't really see them enforcing this though, it's just too politically unpalatable) upon re-entry into Australia, there is always the backdoor route through New Zealand.
  7. Are you a US citizen or green card holder? If not then you are not allowed to enter the USA directly from the UK (or the EU) because of Donald Trump's Presidential Proclamation (https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-certain-additional-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-coronavirus/) which has been continued by Joe Biden (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/25/proclamation-on-the-suspension-of-entry-as-immigrants-and-non-immigrants-of-certain-additional-persons-who-pose-a-risk-of-transmitting-coronavirus-disease/). As the US does not have exit customs, you must enter the USA in order to transit.
  8. More than twenty. NSW is investigating a case right now: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-15/nsw-hotel-quarantine-covid19-case-possible-spread-breach/100218310 NSW health authorities investigate possible COVID-19 transmission in hotel quarantine
  9. With the number of people who end up getting infected during hotel quarantine in Australia, I'd say that coming fully vaccinated is a really good idea.
  10. Right, but I think the OP has only spent a total of 15 months in Australia so they'd have to spend a few months more in Australia before their children are eligible to apply for citizenship based on descent.
  11. It's not as simple as that though. If Melbourne achieved that level of vaccination today, even if its own healthcare system won't be overwhelmed by the virus, it'll still have to be locked down because if the virus is circulating at all in the city, then its people will be barred from entering all the other states in Australia, as well as NZ. Unless the entire travel bubble has achieved herd immunity, no single part of it can abandon the zero-Covid strategy. Either that or the bubble will burst.
  12. Something that's often overlooked here is that even now the USA still bars all foreigners from entering if they have set foot in the EU/UK in the past 14 days. While the UK requires people from the USA to quarantine upon arrival. Until those countries fully open up to each other, I think it's a bit premature to talk about Australia opening up its borders.
  13. Keeping the borders closed is always a vote-winner in Australia, it's a natural extension of the anti-immigration politics of the past. Of course it's bad for the economy, but Australian voters generally place border/national security above the economy (they haven't experienced a recession since the early 90s, not counting the present technical recession).
  14. It depends on what visa the partner currently holds. If they hold 100/309/801/820 then no exemption is required. Otherwise an exemption is needed to verify the relationship and eligibility: https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/immediate-family-australian-citizens-or-permanent-residents-or-new-zealand-citizens-usually-resident-australia
  15. As most NZ citizens don't need visas to enter Australia, perhaps that's why your application is being delayed? Note that if you're travelling directly to Australia from a country other than NZ, you have to prove that you normally reside in Australia to be able to board, regardless of whether you have a visa (unless you obtain a separate travel exemption).
  16. These days you can stream British radio quite easily via the internet. Just install Simple Radio on your phone and you can stream it while you drive too.
  17. Exactly, this is what I mean by it not being guaranteed in SA. In NSW we have schools that are many times over there capacity and yet they still have to admit all local students.
  18. I'm not sure if the guarantee extends to every state though. I have heard that certain states (SA in particular) do not provide this guarantee.
  19. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/27/uk-covid-cases-india-variant-matt-hancock-three-quarters Hospitalisations are already on the rise in some areas of the UK as the majority of UK Covid cases are now of the Indian variant. This despite India being on the red list of countries and all travellers from there required to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days.
  20. Before you enter into a contract you should read the details of that contract. The details should tell you what your rights/obligations are under that contract and the penalties for breaking it.
  21. Well here is an official Australian government page: https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert/coronavirus-covid-19-restrictions/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-for-international-travellers/coronavirus-covid-19-faqs-international-travellers-to-australia Pre-departure testing exemptions Children aged under 5 years (4 years and younger) at the time of check-in for the scheduled flight departure
  22. Here is what Cathay Pacific says about this: https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK/covid-19/worldwide-travel-restrictions.html From 22 January 2021, all passengers aged five or above travelling to or transiting through Australia are required to present a medical certificate indicating a negative COVID-19 test result, conducted within 72 hours of their scheduled flight departure
  23. Yes the whole of Australia is undergoing a health care capacity crisis, possibly as a result of deferred care from last year.
  24. Having done two weeks of hotel quarantine recently, I'd say that the riskiest time is when you open your door to collect/put out items up to five times each day. Especially because the system is set up such that everybody opens their door around the same time to collect their meals.
