  1. Probably true - but I'd look at EVERY alternative rather than raid my Super..
  2. It's much better off to you if you leave it where it is though. Probably best to get a short term loan...
  3. I would contact them again if I were you. Not prying, but is it a large amount you owe? If not, I wouldn't worry too much about it and just offer to pay off what you can.
  4. Have you emailed Barclaycard and discussed options? Link: https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/contact-us
  5. Sell your house first and then relocate. Rent somewhere out short term to have a good look around (month on month); that'll give you a feel for each area of Brisbane.
  6. Looks absolutely stunning. We had a pool put in at our old house (over 10 years ago now) and it was an absolute nightmare. They completely trashed the back yard, told us they went over on costs and didn't put anything in to allow the pool to be drained. It was a cartridge filter and was dreadful. There was a waste outlet pipe but they hadn't put it in the right way around and it wasn't connected to anything. In heavy rain we had to get a piece of hose pipe out and syphon it with our mouths. With tiling the whole thing cost over $35,000 and we've NEVER forgotten it. Yours looks perfect. I take it from the pool truck phone number you're around the Bundaberg area. We've been in Hervey Bay (apart from a couple of other places) for 17 years now and think of the Wide Bay as paradise!
  7. My brother was also based for years at RAAF Williamtown before retiring, that's how I know the area so well. Stockton sand dunes are a 4WD paradise...
  8. And if you want somewhere a bit quieter with great beaches AND wineries, try Port Stephens. It's only an hour commute to work in Newcastle but is a million miles away in relaxation. Good facilities including shopping centres etc.
  9. I had to laugh (somewhat nervously) when Morrison said that China's refusal to take Australia's exports had NOTHING to do with the fact that he accused them of 'causing the virus'. Nothing? Seriously? You need to stop repeating what Trump Towers is saying ScoMo.....its time Australian politicians led and not followed.
  10. We've lived in Hervey Bay now for 16 years and wouldn't live anywhere else. Good infrastructure (60,000 population), a massive health sector for employment, beaches (no crocs!) and one of the best voted climates in the WORLD! We're approximately 3 and a half hours north of Brisbane by road and a couple of hours to the Sunshine Coast. We live in paradise! PS If you don't want crowds or crime, then DON'T move to Southport.
  11. Certainly a profession in demand. Have you thought more about the regional areas in NSW? Sydney is a BIG place and not one I'd like to live in (we've been in Queensland for 20 yeasr) and there are some lovely regional cities including rural and coastal areas.
  12. Holiday first if you can afford it as it'll give you some appreciation of what Australia is all about - it's not the UK with more sunshine. If you do holiday here, try and get a feel for living here; in other words don't treat every day like it IS a holiday. Do the normal things, go grocery shopping, drive into the city at 8am...... We made the move over 20 years ago and love it but it's certainly not for everyone.
  13. Having no job to come to would be my biggest concern. Australia, particularly Sydney is VERY expensive due to the cost of just living What is your profession that got you in on the skills shortage if I may ask?
  14. Have a look at this written in 2017. Link:
  15. While you're on a BVA, the whole point is for awaiting a decision for a permanent visa isn't it; otherwise why you would be on a BVA? Sorry, I'm confused. A BVA is granted AT THE SAME TIME as you apply for a more substantial visa.
  16. Very broad question indeed. Obviously make sure you bring ALL your personal affects (DL, Passport, Birth and Mariage etc etc). Of more concern is that you mention 'getting a job'. Have you got a job to come to? How did you get PR without one?
  17. Do you mean motels? There's a string of them along Kingsford Smith Drive and these are only a 5-10 minute drive to New Farm/Fortitude Valley...
  18. Too true. If you give us an indication of your budget we could then recommend suburbs that might fit in. As other have said, the Hill and East/North East are good as too are the beach side suburbs from Brighton northwards....
  19. New Farm, Fortitude Valley and West End would be my pick...
  20. As others have stated; there are jobs EVERYWHERE, you've just got to try that bit harder to find them and be prepared to take your 'not ideal' job first to get into the marketplace. We moved to Hervey Bay back in January 2006 and people we met then said 'there's no jobs here you know'. Within 2 weeks we both had full time jobs. Be prepared to do the hard yards first to live in Paradise!
  21. Hi, here's hoping you can get the citizenship! We used to live in Hallett Cove and Morphett Vale (not too far away from there either). Port Noarlunga is a poorer area to be honest (apologies to anyone living there), Hallett Cove is better but has its problems. Henley Beach is considerably upmarket compared to those other two areas...
  22. Welcome to the Australian workforce where the number one priority is profit.
  23. Try living in NZ! When we were there, even in a slight rain shower the power went off!
  24. Wherever you move in the World, give yourselves at least two years to say 'yay' or 'nay'. To the OP; it was a very broad request. The first thing to ask would be "Have we a cat in hell's chance of emigrating?" as it's very, very difficult and costly to get into Australia permanently. Maybe first you should tell us about your qualifications and such and then maybe we could advise you.
