  1. My brother lives in Halls Head and the other lives in Erskine, we are going to be looking at houses anywhere from Halls Head up to Singleton but to be honest, all suburbs have good and bad reviews I'm sure, I lived in Rockingham as a child but it has changed so much now. Good luck with wherever you choose. Can't help about the pie situation as I dont eat them!!
  2. Just checked this morning and the dollar is dropping further, AUS $1.82 to the GBP!! Really not sure if to wait to sell up here in the UK this year? Don't want to be in a position where we have sold and the dollar is even lower, will have a big impact on what we can buy in Oz. Everything is so uncertain at the moment!
  3. If we had to pay for quarantine in WA (Perth) anyone know how much it would cost? Do they give you special rates etc? 2 adults and a 16 year old.
  4. Thank you. I expect quarantine will be in place for many more months to come.
  5. Hi all, Has anyone read or know how long the borders will be closed to international flights from the UK this year? TIA xx
  6. No, we didn't sell our house and had no savings. The money we had to take with us was what we had saved to make the move, we didnt have any spare savings in the bank.
  7. Forgot to say if you bring enough money for 6 months and it runs out and still no jobs what happens then?
  8. When we moved to Oz before (2012) we was both able to get help whilst we was looking for work. We had a small amount of money that we came with and rented as soon as we got there, it didnt take us long to find jobs, and our benefits ceased as soon as we notified we had jobs. We didn't have any savings either, so things have changed dramatically then.
  9. Thank you for the reply. So if no savings at all, for example, you still wouldnt be able to claim Job Seekers payment whilst looking for work? How are you meant to live? So are people saying if newly arrived in Australia, you have to have a huge lump sum to support yourself? Is this referring to me as a Citizen or to my husband with the Partner Visa? Also, would we not qualify for Medicare either? TIA x
  10. I hope someone can help please? I cannot find any information on Jobseekers payment for anyone who arrives in Australia (WA) on a Partner Visa 309/100 (permanent resident with both) and myself (Australian Citizen) whilst we look for work. We will be looking for work immediately and are worried there may be wait times. We will be staying with family on a temporary basis until we find somewhere to live. I have read some information about the fornightly payments, but there is so much information its actually mind boggling!! Do we have to register with Centrelink on our arrival? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
  11. What if you book a flight and pay for it, but it doesn't fly on the date chosen? If they are showing are they a guaranteed flight to Australia? I'm a bit confused with flights at the moment!
  12. Please keep everyone posted when you have booked your flights, be interesting to see how much they cost? I suppose 2 weeks quarantine will go quickly, at least you will be in Oz!
  13. I also thought about transition through another airport on the way over, how does that work during the virus? I suppose if the quarantine last for many months then they may start charging in other states, but it's an expense we could do without!! And I've read some reviews in other states that the hotels are not brilliant, limited food, awful food etc....no deliveries allowed etc....
  14. How do you go about quarantine though? Who knows that you are flying over with regards to your flight etc.....How much has to be paid to go into quarantine?
  15. For anyone going to Oz this year, are there special flights you have to book or can you just book with any airline? If already booked, can you please advise who you are flying with and the conditions of the booking, thank you. Xx
  16. He Reboz, I have juct checked Perth Airport online, it is open, restrictions for food outlets etc....in place, WA borders are closed to flights within Australia, unless essential workers.... flights into WA from outside Australia and permitted but 14 day quarantine will take place, like yourselves, we are exempt from completing a form online to travel to Australia, but flights are few and far between. Please let me know if you find any and book soon? We have to sell our home first so wont be booking flights for a while, just hope things dont get worse and we cant sell!! Great you have sold anyway and are in a better position to continue with your plans. How have your family reacted to you still going ahead? We are expecting a war probably!! X
  17. This is our thinking, if we wait to see what happens with the virus in the UK, how long will it be before back to some normality?? 6 months, 2 years etc etc...... We have family to stay with in Oz and will keep our stuff in storage when it arrives if we havent bought a house, and we will have to quarantine for 2 weeks first anyway, so we wouldnt be in a position to find jobs or a house to start with. Haven't heard how long WA borders will be closed for. Our biggest hurdle is to sell our house now. Of course family will have there opinion and will be the negative ones and try and stop us going, but as mentioned by others, if we dont go as soon as, we could be stuck here even longer and may never get to move. I have spoken with PSS and they tell me they are not visiting poeples houses yet, maybe not until mid to end of june, so if we get a buyer rather soon then hopefully if things dont get worse, we can get a quote done for our shipping, it's all got run smoothly! Flights: not looking at the moment as too early to book, really should wait until our house sale is going through and have exchanged contracts, then will look. Hopefully we can book removals at some stage. And breath!!
  18. Who is leaving th move to Australia till next year because of the virus etc.....? We keep talking through things but don't know what to do for the best? If we stay in UK things could get much worse with the virus, housing market etc etc....also the dollar is dropping, so who knows what it will be when we move??? We have no control over it at any time! If we put house on the market and it sells this year, we may have to quarantine for 2 weeks in Perth on our arrival, look for work etc....what if the virus starts to spread more in WA???? Everything is just "if" at the moment!! Worst time ever to be sorting our move to Oz.
  19. Have you go a job to go to when you arrive in Australia?
  20. Just wanted to jump in on this topic as confused about entry into Australia this year? If still residing in the UK at present but waiting to move to Australia (I'm the Australian Citizen, partner has 3019/100 Visa) who has to get permission to leave the UK and/or permission to arrive in Australia and to activate the visa? I understand if wanting to travel to Australia within the next 3 months you have to complete a form online, but I doubt we will be moving this year now because of the virus, so travel restrictions will be pose a problem if Australia wont be letting people in. The excitement of our move is very much in our minds but at the same time very worried about actually getting there!!
  21. As of today, AUS to the GBP is $1.86 Hope it doesn't keep going down as will make selling in UK and buying in Oz really worrying!! Looks like in for a bumpy ride!
  22. I have just checked the Department of Immigration and it clearly states only to fill in the exemption form online if planning to travel to Australia within the next 3 months. If not travelling in the next 3 months, to check the website regularly for changes.

Thanks for the reply Jon the Hat, we also have a house to sell and are thinking of putting it on the market in the next month or two and see what happens. We are so desperate to go and it's very frustrating at the moment. We may also have to wait until next year too if things do not improve!
