  1. I have used this company many times and found them to be excellent, They have a special link for one way travel and good reviews. You can do it all on line but their staff are also very helpful http://www.go-walkabout.co.uk/one_way_travel_insurance.php
  2. Again depends where you are in Tasmania! Certain areas appear to have NBN in Devonport https://www.finder.com.au/nbn-tracker/sa/7DER.... Telstra wifi, Optus etc are available. Research and see what works well in your area! Most companies tell you that theirs is the best but it also depends on even your street in so many cases. We are on NBN and for us it works exceptionally well but internet packages are more costly than the UK!
  3. Not sure whether the Consulate in Penang can help issuing you with an ETD give them a ring in the morning ... but the Embassy in KL should be able to arrange an "Emergency Travel Document which will get her through to Singapore ok then onwards to the UK...https://www.gov.uk/emergency-travel-document
  4. I am not sure whether the British Consulate in Penang can help you on the passport front... or is it possible to go to the British Embassy in KL (delaying your flight) in the morning they open at 8am.... I hope you sort it ok.. alternatively is it possible one of you to go through Immigration to process the luggage onwards in Singapore leaving the others airside? Looks as though in Devonport they have various outlets.... you stated you needed a prepaid at Melbourne airport as soon as you land, but I dont think you will find Amaysim there! 6. I have Optus with no problems and it works for me here in Tasmania. Ask Toots which server she uses! My OH has Telstra and this pretty much covers the whole island. A friend of ours residing here in Tassie uses a sim card from Aldi which has the Telstra network & numbers for a far cheaper price, but she obtained this in Melbourne as we dont have an Aldi here as yet. There are various other companies eg Telechoice / Boost (also uses the Telstra network) etc but imo Telstra is probably safer for a good all round reception. http://boost.com.au/ https://www.telechoice.com.au/?gclid=CMzh-pOF2tUCFVQGKgodJ6ICYg https://www.yellowpages.com.au/vic/tullamarine/telstra-store-melbourne-airport-15536724-listing.html and Optus have a shop @ Located in: Melbourne Airport Address: Arrivals Terminal, International Airport, Tullamarine VIC 3043 Hours: Open today · 6:30am–1am

    Village Life

We live in Evandale a Georgian historical village with the most amazing architecture. Also know as the Penny Farthing Village where yearly competitions & local fairs take place. Discovered in the 1800's.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evandale,_Tasmania.. The home of John Glover artist...John Glover was the most important early 19th century landscape artist to work in Australia. In 1832, he settled at Mills Plains (Deddington, near Evandale) on a property that he called 'Patterdale'. A wonderful Sunday market comprising of clothing, plants. food and antiques. Strict building regulations are imposed so that the village remains in keeping ... We have a beautiful post office, an incredible pub or two The Clarendon Arms is truly based on British pubs, with candlelight and open fires... so thankfully no pokies or keno which we despise with a passion. A magnificent leather shop manufacturing on the premises... cafes... antique shops, newsagent, Drs surgery, school, small supermarket, a local butcher and a renowned bakery and restaurant. The airport but not on the flight path only 3 minutes away which is most handy! Views of Ben Lomond , farms and cows/ rolling green fields... but Launceston is just down the road. National trust homes i.e. https://www.nationaltrust.org.au/places/clarendon/ & https://think-tasmania.com/historic-houses/ Great friendly neighbours who enjoy the community spirit. It really is our little bit of oasis ! Ross, Richmond, Westbury are just a few European villages within Tasmania which are a must to visit. For visitors to our shores there is much to explore and to learn about the heritage and history.
  12. Well it looks as though they could be selling off their property.. silly people...http://www.examiner.com.au/story/4852745/honey-farm-owners-home-auction-date-set/?cs=2596
  13. Thank you Toots. Apparently it opened last week and our Vietnamese friends were astonished with the prices. It will be interesting to see what you think!
  14. `Some Vietnamese friends of ours who have a business in Launceston were remarking how the prices at this store are double and triple compared to Melbourne which is rather a shame. Island prices !
  15. Quite right, Alcohol for a BBQ or party is a huge expense so it is expected you bring your own which is a huge saving and you take home any "alcohol leftovers". we usually have a few slabs of beer/wine to start the part going but it invariably doesnt get used. When I first came to Australia I was asked to bring a plate and a plate I did bring.... got some very strange looks
  16. So many authentic spices which you cant obtain in a supermarket. Specialised Japanese/Korean/Chinese sauces & pastes. Many sell Korean whisky or Japanese sake which are not readily available. Rice can be cheaper in the sack if you require very large quantities. We love the smells of the Orient and rummaging around the shelves.
  17. I love to see the Asian shops cropping up. We have some excellent ones in Launceston / Hobart etc. and naturally competition keeps their prices competitive.
  18. Love it, much more pleasing on the eye and very partial to the new icons!
  19. Havent seen it the last month Gareth, and the Aurora last September in Evandale was absolutely stunning ... looks like 24th August is prob the next star gazing weather in Koh Sumui..https://www.accuweather.com/en/th/ko-samui/5470/astronomy-daily-forecast/5470?day=16
  20. Absolutely beautiful weather here for the last two days, cold nights, clear skies full of stars. Sitting here outside in gorgeous sunshine looking up at Ben Lomond ... Daffs, tulips, primroses all coming through. Spring is with us in three weeks...
  21. We pay $60 which I find very fair, and the meds are not OTT either!

    Skiing in Australia

...and then there is Tasmania. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skiing_in_Tasmania
  23. I had a 4 storey 4 bedroomed house 40 ft container and the cost was just over twelve thousand pounds 7 years ago. The insurance was with the shipping company which was much more expensive and I would receive quotes insurance wise from a variety of different insurance companies. Would we move the same volume again? yes! particularly linens which fit our Australian beds, kitchen equipment , Le Creuset etc, bone china, cut glasses. We felt our European belongings are of a much higher quality or we would have to pay double, coupled with the fact we would have to go shopping again which we are not partial to lol - Starting from scratch with items from KMart, Op Shops etc (No Ikea here in Tasmania although they can post certain items ) are more than possible and good value.
  24. As a Platinum Plus member I have no bone of contention. We are more than happy with Qantas. The huge BUT, in general here in Oz we dont have the same penalties placed upon airlines in the event of cancellations and delays as in Europe.
  25. I find Flight Centre here in Tasmania excellent, they usually have some sort of deal with partner airlines that avoid s paying the Tassie mainland leg. They certainly price match for me.. I tend to hold onto a good person and use them on a regular basis. On line doesnt always mean the best deal.
