  1. I know you have to live in the state for 2 yrs but don't think there is anything about the working side of things.
  2. Hiya I'm sure it is you have attained a qualification or award option, it was a couple of years ago when I did mine so not 100%. When we do the skill assessment they are just making sure that we are trained in the job we do.
  3. Suck it up and get them told haha It's not easy but at the end of the day you are doing what you feel is right for your family. I told my family at the very start and they where all very supportive, but it was my daughter (6 at the time) who told my wife's dad whilst out for walk. They where chatting and she just said that he could come and visit when we are in Australia he wasn't impressed and said that he would never come to Australia nor speak to the kids on the phone as it would be too hard for him. I did feel sorry for my father in law as my girls were everything to him and he was a brilliant grandad, unfortunately he passed away last Feb before we came out. Some will take it good others will spit there dummies out but you have to do what you feel is right for your family.
  4. What you bring can depend on how much room you have in your container/movecube. If you have the room then bring as much as you can. Fridge/freezers here tend to be bigger than what you'd get in the UK, although most houses have a fitted space already for them so may not take an American style, but if you where to build your own house you could put it in that. When you sell things you don't get much for them so if your appliances aren't that old I would be bringing them if you have the room. Maybe not your oven & hood though.
  5. You will probably have the same situation no matter which state you go to, but you will find something, you may just have to go over budget to get something. We came last June to SA so competition wasn't as strong for rentals, we had no jobs but we just showed funds in our account which they were happy with. Have a look at tenant options(I think) it's what real estate agents ask you to submit when applying for rentals, you have to get references etc, we used our airbnb host then we gave them the contact details for the estate agents that sold our house in the UK.
  6. Can be a pain in the arse OSHC. All good mate, just waiting on some sunshine especially at weekend. Been like the UK nice during the week then crap at weekends.
  7. You don't have to tell me about swooping magpies, I've got a hole in the side of my helmet of them. Also you've spelt kookaburra wrong it's cookaborough
  8. Do you not get Oshc subsidised?
  9. Sorry I meant on the 189/190
  10. Hiya Once you are in Aus (if you make it) you are free to do whatever you want to do. You can decide to not work for months then you can go and work as whatever you like.

    Uk mortgage

Exactly, that was the trouble with the together mortgage, they where giving you a 125% mortgage then we had the recession. I had the same problem, couldn't remortgage and got stuck paying higher interest rates when northern Rock went bump, hence the solicitors looking at making claims for everyone affected.
  12. That cookaborough noise will soon start pissing you off haha

    Uk mortgage

Not to sure if they contact your lender or not but just ask to makesure. No nothing to pay upfront so a no win no fee basis just like ppi claims. Nothing to lose so if it comes off then brilliant, if nothing happens then so be it.

    Uk mortgage

Yeah mine went to NRAM after northern rock folded, left me stuck paying 5% and couldn't move because like you I bought right before the crash. Luckily my house made money and I could settle up before moving out here last year. They seem to think there's a case but how long it takes is anyone's guess. I first registered maybe last May and the last update was maybe a month or so ago. They take a cut but there's nothing to lose and there was no reason for us to be stuck paying such high interest rates. They are saying that we should have been paying the same interest rates offered at other banks so are going after the overpayment, which could be a nice sum. I've also done a claim on my diesel car as they emailed me about that haha.

    Uk mortgage

Hi Ben Was the mortgage with Northern Rock? If so I was with them and there is a lawsuit going on because we where all trapped paying high interest rates. Have a look at harkus Parker law firm in the UK and register your details

    Money matters

Yeah you get a card, you can use it just like any other high street bank. I can't fault it, low transfer fees and the exchange rate is the best you will get. You can even buy shares and crypto through it.

Correct they use barclays or lloyds, can't remember which one now. With not having branches they are able to give you the better deals.

Look at an online bank called Revolut, its one I use and it has better rates than all the other banks etc.
  19. Welcome to Adelaide I am sure you will all love it. Only bad thing at the minute is that you have to wear face masks when going into crowded areas, but it's only what you would have been doing the other month in the UK. I know what you mean about hoping in a way that flights where cancelled and then you could use that as your get out clause for not coming I was the same. Always second guessing ourselves and wondering if we where making the correct decision in coming to Australia, but the only way you will know is by coming to Australia.
  20. True PR holders can still enter Australia but under very tough conditions. All other entry dates have disappeared so this could just be the same.
  21. It's our language we can do what we want with it
  22. They aren't trying to fail you in the interview, they just need to makesure that you do sheetmetal as a job. Sheetmetal covers a wide range of skills so I wouldn't have thought that you are the 1st person who hasn't done any welding. Just look over what I've said and try and remember the basics. If you've been able to get the 1st part of the skill assessment passed off then you should be fine in the interview.
  23. Have you passed the other part of the skill assessment then (submitting evidence)? Just have a look through the stuff which I mentioned and you will see that some of it is very basic things. They asked alot about workshop health & safety and also about planning jobs etc. If you haven't done much welding just mention it and give it a go. They can ask you anything but I would have thought that welding will come up. Are you OK with pattern development, because they could ask on that also.
