  1. Hi WayneA and Rose11, Thanks guys, we're hoping to be off by around November, exciting times! I spent the whole of July uploading documents including getting police certificates and medicals done. In fact just a few days ago I was still uploading anything I could get my hands on to help with the case! Surprised that it was all accepted ok and I didn't upload Form 80, was just going to see if they asked for it but they never did thankfully. Rose, I know it is so daunting doing it all yourself - there were a few occasions where I could totally understand why people throw 2 grand at a migration agent to avoid the hassle, but we just could not afford that on top of everything else. Hope you both hear soon, good luck!
  2. Ecstatic to say Our 189 visas came through today, direct grant! Could not have done this process without the help of this site so a massive thankyou to everyone who has replied to my posts. I decided to do the applications myself, without a migration agent, despite having quite a complex case and this site has been a godsend. Good luck to all still waiting, hang in there, it will be all worth it when that email comes through. Happy days! Kymm
  3. Hi I'm sorry I can't help you out but thanks for your post as it is really helpful to me! I am MH nurse, partner is landscape gardener and we have a 3 year old daughter, waiting impatiently for the visa result. We are completely torn over where to live - we loved Sydney in the past but the expense of it is daunting now we have a kid in tow so we have been researching Adelaide. Your comments are really interesting re MH, and does put me off a bit - I keep hearing on these sites that Adelaide is very behind the times. It is such a massive decision and I would hate to have to pack everything up and move again! Hopefully you'll find the answers you're looking for and best ofluck with your move Kymm
  4. We lodged ours on 21 June and have heard nothing either. Waiting is awful! Fingers crossed a CO should appear very soon, or even better, a direct grant Hang in there! Kymm
  5. Hi everyone, I lodged my 189 application on 21st June, have finished uploading all docs, police certificates received and had my medical last week so hopefully it's just a waiting game now! Wee question - what is the deal with 'form 80'? Should I fill this in and upload it too or wait and see if it's requested by a CO? Doing this all myself so don't wanna miss anything out! Congrats to those who have got their result and fingers crossed for the rest of us!
  6. Going round in circles - someone please help! So I have started the application for 189 visa, and have just booked my medicals for a date in July- should I have waited until the visa application is lodged and asked to do this? Or is it ok to just go ahead and do this? And is this same for police checks? Sorry if this is just repeating info but it is so frickin' confusing!!! Thanks folks!
  7. We have 65 points. Good luck to you!
  8. Hi folks, Just to say I lodged an EOI for the 189 visa last night and was invited today so good luck to everyone who is trying to get there! Now the real work begins tackling this monstrous application...
  9. Just a question about AHPRA - if I register in one state does that transfer to all states or will I have to register again if I move? (Sent all my correspondence to Sydney office but still torn on where to go) Cheers
  10. Thank you so much for posting this - really helpful!! Kymm
  11. Any chance I could please get a copy of this, nmc is taking ages and would be good to get a head start on the paperwork? Also, I applied for a verification of registration certificate, the one that costs £34, but it said something about some agencies needing proof your registration is current - do u know if this is anything to worry about? Cheers, Kymm
  12. Is this for the ANMAC skills assessment or AHPRA? I was under the impression it was 3 months of at least 32 hour weeks (for ANMAC). Cheers
  13. Hi Gayle, where did you do your training? Thinking you were possibly in my year group at Napier!? Kymm
  14. Alcrock, good luck with your application. We feel the same, that we have to try and apply and hope for the best. There really is no other way of knowing for sure! Fingers crossed
  15. Not sure yet Cal, a bit undecided between Sydney and Brisbane, but hoping to start the application process soon. So will probably be glued to these forums for the next few months!
  16. Hi everyone, I have been meaning to say hi on this forum for ages but always forget and charge straight in there on my threads wanting advice! I've only started posting on this site but have been snooping for ages! Spent 2 years in oz and now desperate to get back out there soon with my partner and little nipper, and always feel inspired by people's stories on here. Had lots of great tips and advice already from folk on this site which is much appreciated! :cute:
  17. Hi, I lived in Oz a few years ago and I moved to a town near Cairns to work on a farm at the start of the month of February - the humidity was horrible, so sticky! In fact one day my partner and I were the only people in the lagoon on the Cairns esplanade as it was raining a thunderstorm, but it was the only way to cool off in the heat. However, I did find that we acclimatised pretty quickly, and actually don't remember the rain being a big deal at all. Didn't encounter any cyclones though! However, the dry months are just lovely up in the north. Head for some of the beaches north from Cairns, Palm Cove is lovely. Or south, like Mission Beach, it's really nice and laid back. Good luck with your move!
  18. Thanks for your reply, I've already contacted that agent due to suggestions on a previous thread. I have done lots of research and, while I realise the process isn't easy I am fairly confident in applying myself if needed. Bottom line is that from what I understand an agent can't influence the medical officer's decision, which is what our case is going to depend on. And if we wanted an agent to appeal the decision for us it wouldn't be included in their original fee anyways. While I'm not doubting there is a lot more to migration agents than simply filling out forms, I'm just struggling to see what they could do for my family that we couldn't do ourselves... Great hearing replies for people who have done it themselves though, cheers!
  19. Hello, I previously posted up a similar thread but would really love to hear some opinions on this... I am hoping to apply for a skilled permanent visa for myself and family and I am the main applicant (mental health nurse). Only possible issue we have is that I have a cochlear implant, which I had done 2 years ago. After taking advice from folk on the previous thread I put up and trawling through migration agents that specialise in complex health cases I am now wondering whether there is really any point in using a migration agent at all when they have no influence on the actual decision by the medical officer to grant a visa... We meet the points test and are quite happy to go through the process of applying on our own, and realise that we will not be able to get a definite answer until the visas are applied and paid for, and so are willing to take that gamble with our cash if there's a chance it will get us into oz (total scam though!).But, with fees of almost £200 for a 'pre-medical assessment' in addition to standard processing fees, and no real answers, is there really any point of using an agent?!! Cheers!
  20. No Birkenstocks in my household but it did say sneakers were acceptable
  21. Haven't actually considered Marrickville, although I loved the whole Newtown vibe when I was over previously. Definitely going to look into that more as your description sounds exactly what I'm after! Thanks for your comment
  22. Been to the one in Glasgow a couple of times, nice to speak to real live people! Tip - fill in your details/send cv etc for the visa assessment before the event - I did this and they had a load of information ready for me to collect, and so avoid the queues on the day.
  23. Thanks for all the replies folks, will definitely look in those mentioned as they're not ones I've looked at yet. Any ideas how to go about getting medical advice/who would be best to contact, before I part with my hard earned cash??
