  1. depending on what visa you(your partner) have ... if it is spouse visa and you are still under 2 years provisional, it would be an issue.
  2. thanks for reply That was shocking to me as well that you can get manual license in other states!! However, i was actually told that C-A (auto only) license from my original country can be removed when I convert the license here... it depends on which state you are in I suppose. But driving AT and MT is totally different (to me anyway), people should have training for both tho. Also, some countries can't convert their license straightaway, need to sit a driving test etc etc... another 3 months to go, I need to fix my bad habits (no indicator when you get out from a round about etc) and have confidence for the test
  3. Because my license is C-A(automatic only), I am going to sit a practical driving test at Midland driving centre in Aug (which was the earliest day when I booked last week!). I am driving an automatic for about 5 years now, and my partner bought a MT car. I can drive it with L plate and get used to drive MT car, but now I need to know how the test goes on the day. My original license was not from Aus, so I never take a driving test here. so now... I have some questions about the test day... 1: Am I asked some car mechanic questions? for example " how do you know if the tail light work?" "how do you check engine oil?" 2: when you stop your car at red light, can I put my gear in neutral? or I have to stay on 1st gear all the time? 3: when you find a traffic light change to yellow-red, you can put your gear into neutral (i.e. 4th gear - neutral) and stop? I heard that coasting is no no in some states (NSW) 4: skipping gear (2 to 4th or 5th to 3rd etc) is ok at the test? Many thanks
  4. The cancellation letter was for rsms? Or citizenship? 119 is offshore visa, has she been in aus already? (Within 6 months after the visa was granted?) is she working for the sponsor company still? Or she changed her work place? When she got 119 visa in aus, she needed to go out of aus and re-entered. If she didn't, it means that she hasn't obtained any visa because she didn't validate the visa.
  5. you can get vaccinations in Aus, but it will be required full payment. I had a tetanus shot here and about $30 in 8 years ago. UK citizen maybe covered some vaccinations under medical agreement between countries, but you should check. Im not sure if the vaccination will work for you over a year or more...maybe some only work for a few months?
  6. I am not going to scare you, but I would say immigration is sometimes very stubborn... my work mate applied RSMS while he was on 457 visa. He was working more than 2 years, so he needed to apply as "transit stream". but the company ticked "direct stream" for his application, and the result of this, his application was declined... Just only one tick!! He collected and provided all required information/paperwork, but the only one tick killed his all work and money. He is claming to MRT but it is just for staying and working in Aus until his next visa is ready. It is an extreme example and not happen all the time, depending on CO as well... but it would be better if you can fix even a tiny issue on your application if possible...
  7. PR Visa is always "waiting game" unfortunately, http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/162603-rsms-187-visa-timeline.html you may browse this one already, but RSMS/187 seems to take 3-6 months. Depending how did you put your application (with/without medical, have dependents, which country you came from), the time will vary A LOT. Good luck
  8. Immi works amazingly sometimes. when I received my 2nd whv visa, the email arrived 1am on Sunday. also I knew a few people got their pr emails 10pm (in perth time so it would be midnight in Eastern).
  9. http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/os-qual-units.htm it is free assessing for your qualification for immigrant and education purposes.
  10. i suspect that immi doesn't send invitation to all "above 60 point" people...? i.e, you are an electrician with 70 points, but immi doesn't want people for this industry, then immi doesn't issue the invitation for those people??? Likewise not all occupations don't reach their ceiling at the end of the year...
  11. Don't know about Dubai, but when I transited at Singapore airport, I couldn't buy alcohol at the departing country, as singa doesn't allow to carry those with me. So I needed to buy at Singa. However, if you put alcohol in check in luggage, it was Ok. so check these condition too
  12. New SOL is normally announced around May-June, then applied from July ....
  13. I had 1 year and half full time and 1 and 1/2 year casual experience before applying. Also possessed cer 3&4, Diploma as well. My work mates have various experience... one has husband, cer3,4, dip and advance dip, 1&1/2 years casual. another one was a single, only had a cer 3, and worked for 1 year casual before applying ... both of them got visa.
  14. thanks for reply. yeah, 186 can make sense! He asked his migrate agent to do his job, so the agent will sort out his misunderstanding. We are in Perth so he has both option I think.
  15. my work mate was 457 for four years, then applied 187. However, his application rejected due to minor issue. Now, he is trying to get another 457 and will apply 187 whenever he is ready to apply for it. He told me today, he heard this from his agent and he is going to do this... once he gets another 457, then apply 187 straight away (because he needs to apply offshore visa, 457 is the earliest way to get back to work). Because he worked for 4 years already, he can apply 187 direct stream and he doesn't need to work for 2 years after the visa is granted. Is that true? if you work previously for the work place or the same industry, you don't need to work for 2 years as a RSMS rule?? Even he said the 187 doesn't have to do the same company as the 457 sponsor...
  16. I love pay rise but also understand it will cost us in future as well ... My restaurant charge quite high but still owner insists "it is still cheap!" even the portion size of main dish is like a entree... If we get payrise, price of dishes are going to be high, then customers never come back because of "oh it rip off!!" ... then we loose a job... ... don't know it is the reason, but I haven't got pay rise for the last four years tho...
  17. I have the program membership but I used the point a month ago for getting shopping card, as they stop fright between here and my country a few years back... Also, cancel my award credit card to get the point as well. Qantas wasn't bad airline... but there are so many better/cheaper airlines.
  18. When did you receive your PR letter? Mine was June 2012 Mine doesn't say 2 years rule at all, and change residential address, but if I change the circumstance of employment, I need to inform them (doesn't say until when I should (like within 2 years or after two years). VEVO tells you the same things? my VEVO doesn't tell any at all.... I can imagine that Independent skilled visa letter may not state much as they have no condition...
  19. 1:Nothing you need to do. After two years (finish your contract with your employer), you decide what you do. You don't have to stay at the workplace, or even industry. Don't forget you need to get RRV after the first 5 years when you go out of Australia. 2:I don't think you need to advice about your 2 years obligation. 3:It may be different statements depending when you receive, but mine (2012) said about RRV. some other things are on the PR letter but nothing like "condition" things. 4:if you are business owner, you are required to hold them 6-7 years (sorry not sure the exact period), but if you are just a employee, just for 1-2 years after a financial year. others can explain more, but PR isn't much complicated on RSMS.
  20. Apple Sounds like from the UK, so he is entitle to Medicare ... "If you are from a country with a reciprocal health care agreement with Australia, you may be eligible to access Medicare. For further information you should refer to the Medicare Australia website. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/457-health-insurance-faq-visa-holder.htm" Regarding to Private insurance, it may not cover the first baby as most of aus insurance covers pregnancy service after 12 months waiting period. but it is still covered by medicare if he chooses public hospital.
  21. My one of work mate is waiting 457 for 5 months now. His rsms was refused due to minor issue and for some reason the company & he decided to go 457 again. His first 457(4yeara ago) took only one week, so he booked flight to Bali with whole family(due to rejecting visa, needed to apply from offshore) about month later after they sent nomination. Unfortunately he hadn't heard any by the time so changed the flight to the end of March (next week actually). But he still hasn't heard anything!! Because it is off shore applying, he doesn't pay visa fee yet, only nomination thing. The occupation is chef btw.
  22. Getting job here is not easy, but it is the same condition to everyone. Not because you only have Cer 3 or Diploma, employer wants a personnel who work hard and well. Many students work at kitchen, but they can work 40 hours in 2 weeks, which make you hard to get a job sometimes. Due to no more graduate visa (18 months temporary visa) for Chef/cook, getting sponsorship would be difficult I suppose as you haven't work at the place as full time. Part time and full time working condition are totally different, more responsibility required which never asked when you are part time. However, some of our work mate got their sponsorship during student visa. so nothing "never" but you should think of plan B, C ,D .... my one of work mate is from India. She was sponsored when she was on a student visa, so had to apply RSMS offshore. she is now waiting 20 months. Because no bridging visa issued, she applied student visa to stay here until visa grant..... Other sponsored workers are from low-risk countries and got visa after reasonable waiting period. you should think about these case too. by the way... Le cordon bleu sound good you won't enjoy that much at cer 3 commercial cookery here than there....
  23. Minimum1000 but it doesn't mean 1000 invitations are issued ?(for instance, only 5 invitations to cook in the year)
  24. many of you applied in 2013 and got visas... one of my workmate applied in 2012 june (before change) and still she hasn't heard any. She is from high risk country tho.
  25. I miss rain.... and I am pretty sure that I will say "miss the sun..." in September
