  1. Hi Lisa - is this still available? And would you be willing to post to UK..?
  2. Really sweet and a great positive post - thanks
  3. The trick is not to feel overwhelmed by all the things you need to get together. If you have a bit of common sense and any practical / organisational skills, you will be fine! Treat it like a project
  4. I applied for the same visa and did it myself. I'm a pretty organised person and didn't find it too difficult. I used the guidance booklet and made my own lists as well. Waiting for friends /family to write their statements was probably the most time-consuming part! Also, don't get a notary to sign your docs, any willing solicitor will do it for a fraction of the price.
  5. I would put a bit of root power/gel on the cut end and then just anchor it into a pot of house plant compost. Make sure it's in the compost by a few centimetres, water frequently but don't drown it, keep out of direct sunlight and see how it goes! The root power/gel isn't essential and don't worry if you don't have any, but I find it helps bring cuttings on a bit faster. Aloes grow like mad so it should spring up quite quickly.
  6. I only had the "official" documents certified - ie, passport, birth certificate. I can't quite remember now but I think if you read the guidance (carefully, for the 20th time!) then they do say which thing does and doesn't need to be certified and it's just a matter of interpreting exactly what they mean - as it's not always written in the most simple language. Oh and our friends (and Australian citiizens) who wrote the supporting statements, also had to get their statements certified. Most of them got them done via a helpful work place lawyer/notary person.
  7. Some people have reported it as being quicker but I think it depends on time of year etc... I applied in December.
  8. no, it's post only. needs to be the original document signed by you and the person who knows you, plus the signed/witnessed photos. it doesn't take long - probably 10-14 days.
  9. Yes it won't necessarily be immediate - but if they have taken the money (they always do that quickly!) then you know your application has arrived safely and is in the queue.
  10. I got mine done in London (I live here) and costs are in the attached link - £270 + any additional tests you may need: http://www.visamedicals.info/australia-price.asp
  11. sadly not, although if they wanted to bung me a few more air miles/points, I would be very happy!
  12. from London to Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney (see small print at bottom of web page for dates etc). http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_GB/latest-offers/flights/promotion-code-multiple-diy-fares/special-fares-to-australia-and-new-zealand.html?cm_sp=LON-_-OFFERS-_-LHRAUS21DEC13 Book before 31 January 2014.
  13. I am just carrying on with life as normal. I live with my partner in London which is a location we both really enjoy. Our reason for (possibly) moving to Australia is related to his family but is not on a time deadline. So we are getting on with stuff as usual (currently on hols in Asia) and will start making more concrete plans closer to when the visa grant is expected.
  14. You don't say which visa you mean. I did my 309/100 defacto myself... It was a bit dull and I needed to pay close attention but it wasn't difficult. But depends on which you are doing.
  15. You've probably already looked but a good place to start (if you are remotely interested in using the trains and not driving all the time) is: http://www.sydneytrains.info/stations/network_map As you'll see, some areas are not viable if you want to use the train. But of course many other things to consider at the same time...
  16. I applied for the same visa at the end of August. In the letter from my CO (sent by email) it stated a 8-9 months processing time - in the same letter that told me to do my police check/meds after [xxx] date. You should have also been sent the same/similar letter? Apart from having documents returned to me, this is the only correspondence I've had from my CO, and I don't expect to have any more until visa is granted!
  17. I recently had a medical for 309/100 visa (de facto) and was given details on which medical to do and when to book it, in the first letter (and only letter so far) from my CO. I did a simple eye test (read the small letters), had my weight and height measured, blood taken for HIV test, blood pressure taken, eyes and ears looked into with torch, reflexes tested, my chest/back (lungs I guess) listened to and a chest x-ray. Plus some misc. prodding! They also asked questions about medical history (any illnesses, surgery, time in hospital, medication, mental health etc). Probably took about 45 mins in total.
  18. Police check DONE! (I knew it would be "no trace" but still nice to see it in writing...)
  19. UK is: http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx
  20. I am applying for the same visit and I was not asked to bring any medical notes. If there is a long-standing health issue, it may help to take hospital/consultant letters but otherwise just take your passport, HAP ID and credit card (of course!). I was asked to complete two forms but the clinic didn't need them as it's all done electronically (Aus visa guidelines did not mention this).
  21. thanks Yakkay! I've sent my police check off as well, received acknowledgement that they've received the request, but haven't had the certificate back yet. I'm glad everything is done now, time to concentrate on Christmas and to see what the new year brings
  22. mine took 1 hour - mostly sitting around waiting!
  23. medical now done! Not the most fun I've ever had, but not too bad... They indicated that there was nothing be concerned about, so fingers crossed!
  24. that told you OZ2014! But useful to know they are on track with processing, and hopefully you will hear back in May/June 2014...
  25. Hi Nikki - I was wondering how you were getting on - nice to see you are still around and hopefully getting your paperwork sorted out!
