  1. So... I know that the depreciation of Australian property is limited to 40 years, after that you can only claim for the internal fixtures and fittings etc. Would this be the same for UK property since it is generally older anyway? I expect not sadly but worth asking. My house in the UK is a 1930's end of terrace house supplied with some fixtures like nice floor coverings, a range cooker and canopy, carpets etc etc.
  2. Did you get this problem sorted? I am now in the same situation.
  3. No you dont and I had the answer all along on some notes I had copied from a website... Checklist for application ( Some of) · Certified copies of the biographical pages of the current passports or travel documents of all people included in the application (these are the pages with the holder's photo and personal details and the issue/expiry dates). · One recent passport sized photograph (45 mm x 35 mm) of each person included in the application. o These photographs should be of the head and shoulders only against a plain background. o Print the name of the person on the back of the photograph. · If your name has changed or the name of anyone included in your application has changed: a certified copy of evidence of the name change. · If anyone included in the application has served in the armed forces of any country: certified copies of their military service record or discharge papers. · Police checks for everyone included in the visa application who is 16 years of age or older: o an Australian National Police Check for anyone who has spent a cumulative total of 12 months or more in Australia since turning 16 years of age o police certificates from each country in which anyone in your application has spent a cumulative total of 12 months or more in the past 10 years since turning 16 years of age. Provide the original certificates and keep a copy for yourself.
  4. Wow that was quick, thanks. I didn't notice it was there when I wrote that last message asking about the kids.
  5. I am just reading through the australian national police checks form and the question popped up in my head... Do I need to get my 7 and 11 year old kids checked too?
  6. Thanks a lot. i still need to search for the UK one.
  7. Hi all, I just wanted to check that I am correct in saying that when applying for national police checks to transfer my 457 to a 186 PR visa I would be looking at this website / area. http://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/police-checks/national-police-checks.aspx#fees
  8. Thanks very much for the information and good luck. I know you will be busy but I would really appreciate it if you let me know how you got on and any issues that you do have. Thanks again  Paul
  9. Hi all, I am about to start putting together my application for PR from 457 to 186 (employer nominated). I know the process is probably simpler than it looks on the outset and I will have a company checking the documents over for me (Fragomen) before they are submitted but the company that are doing that will not be able to start helping me until my the company I work for tell them to so I'm on my own until then. I wanted to find out if anyone had been through the process and could give any tips, links or any other info which could help. Even just the story of how you did it would be helpful. Many thanks Paul
  10. I did but I couldnt find it, well done for putting this up for me so quickly. I just came back on to say that I had been emailed it by one of the people there after being on hold for 30 mins. Is it the same as mine..? http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/index/checklists/186-applicant-checklist.pdf Thanks again.
  11. Howdy all, I am looking for a list of things I will need to prepare for my application for my transition from my 457 visa to a EN186. I will be applying in Feb and the company I work for are probably going to pay for it so I want to be as ready as possible. I know a few things that I will need to prepare but I am struggling to find out exactly what will be required from me. I cant find much on the DIAC website and end up going round and round in circles. I phoned them up the other day and sat on hold for 20 mins and had to quit waiting because my kids wanted to have some fun. I have asked my HR dept but they will hand over the application to a company called Fragomen and I also called Fragomen and they will not divulge the information until they know they are going to get paid for helping me and my company are still not sure if they will be doing so (althought there is no reason they wouldn't) so I am going round in circles and getting no where fast. Does anyone know if it a simple list and a standard list or is it case specific. I have heard tha I will need to find things like a list of every country I have been to in the last ten years and also dates, police and health checks in both countries.
  12. Hi all again, I just thought I would update this post over 18 months after the initial post. I landed in Oz and loved it straight away, did my basic training for the mine sites for two weeks in Perth and at the weekends while I was there I visited Mandurah and fell in love. I went up to work to carry our my first 19 day stint and on my first 9 days off I headed over to Adelaide to check out Gawler. I loved that place too for the amount of family I had around me and it was a lovely area, especially around Harndorf and the Barossa Valley too and I wa still torn as to which way to go. I got back on the plane at Adelaide to head back to Perth to wait for a plane then to head up to Karratha again for my next swing and as I got on the plane I had made my decision, although it was great being around family the thought of not seeing my kids for that extra 8 hours at least per swing was enough for me to say goodbye to Adelaide. I moved into a place in Mandurah and I am very often home now after just finishing my shift rather than the flight across etc not getting paid. Mandurah itself is a great place to live. The beach is five mins on a bike from my house and the area is a lovely place all in all. I have a boat and enjoy the canal systems and the peel estuary which is kind of like a massive lake with a couple of rivers to explore coming off it. My kids love to go fishing there and the weather is great too. At Xmas the canal houses light up their houses for all the passing boats to go and see and they have fireworks on the foreshore free to all the locals. I would advise anyone in a similar situation to do what I thankfully had the chance to do which was explore both areas in the flesh and then decide. I regret being so far from everything on the East coast because there looks like there is a lot to explore but WA has loads to do too but I think its more rugged exploring here. Monkey Mia is a must to the North and soon we will go and explore Kalgoorlie. Good luck to anyone coming over and if anyone would like any tips I am more than happy to help out.
  13. Hi again people. I have decided to leave the decision until I have seen both sides of the coin first hand. I will be on my own in Oz for the first five months so I can do a lot of looking around in both places to better educate myself about how it could work out. I will take the trip across country five times before my family come over so i will have had the inevitable delays etc and when they do finally come over they can see for themselves also. I want to get the decision made before the kids start school. I intend to have them start school when the Oz kids start the new term in Jan. I do not want them to start a school in one place only to shift to another school a few months later. If we need to I will rent somewhere in Perth for a couple of weeks when my family come over so they can look at Perth and Mandurah for themselves. Thanks very much for your input.
  14. Evening all!! My family and I have been granted the 457 working visa so I can come and work on the railways in the mines in north WA. It's a fly in fly out role with a 19 on 9 off roster. I will be flown to Perth by the company and then I'm on my own. I will be coming over with six other guys who are doing the same all from the UK and all who I currently work with. It sounds like everyone has decided to move to Mandurah just south of Perth to live. It's a beachside town with lots of canals and water activity and it looks like a fantastic place to live. I have a large amount of family in Gawler in Adelaide one of which has a house ready for me to move into. It's a four bed place on 2.5 acres with stables and a pool in the countryside just outside the main town. It looks lovely too. It 45 mins from the beach. I'm torn between the two. The flight between Perth and Adelaide looks to be a three hour flight at a cost of around £350 if booked from the UK. I can't find out how much it would be if booked in Oz. Adeliade is a cheaper place to live so I'm told and is of course closer to Melbourne and Sydney which I'm keen to explore too. Tough choice. Any stories or info would help me out. This decision doesn't have to be made until November / December time and I will be travelling between the two places on my time off. My wife and kids will jot be joining me until July so I can do a lot of scouting around by myself until then. Thanks in advance Paul
  15. Done that. Thanks for the tip. I also joined Poms in Perth because I can't decide wether to live there or in Adeliade once I get up and running. So may e you could see my posts in those two sites! Thanks again
