We also have a funny locking system, a bit like hotel room. Turn the latch one way to lock and the other to open; so we don't actually have to use a key to lock ourselves in the apartment, or when leaving either, as long as the latch is turned the correct way before leaving. So it's not as if we are locking everything with key, although that might be easier, the number of times I wander down to the bins or across the road for a coffee, and have locked myself out!

I agree with @snifter, and would start locking the door and making a note of the date and time of each 'visit'. I would then present this to your agent and/or to the police if required. I personally always lock the front door behind me, living in an apartment block, it makes no sense to me to leave the door unlocked. I am not paranoid, it just seems like common sense. I would also be looking for somewhere else to live, as if you cannot live in your own home without fear of interruption, then it is not a pleasant way to lead your life. I know you shouldn't have to move, but for your own sanity / peace of mind, it may be needed.

Your first question - no idea - when I applied, I was given my CO's email address on the acknowledgement / request for medicals etc letter. Second question - I think it was September 2014 and I'm trying to find a thread or post to back this up! EDIT: seems like it was 1 August 2014 when the processing time increased. Yep I had KP (but my visa is granted now). He (she?) was pretty responsive whenever I got in touch with my silly questions...

I had them but my visa was granted in May, so probably doesn't help...!

once the visa is granted, you don't need to do anything else. You will be given a date which is the latest point you must enter Australia to validate the visa (it can just be a holiday, you don't have to stay) or you can fly the day after you get the visa approval letter.

I'd be avoiding Egypt but not for Ebola reasons! See the FCO advice on travelling there: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/egypt It's fine to travel when you're waiting for your visa to be processed, but exercising the usual caution is advised when choosing your destination

mine was listed on the third page of the grant letter, under "grant details" - or you could log into VEVO and check there instead (or just ask your CO).

before mine was granted, I could still see it wasn't as systematic as we like to believe. and it doesn't mean that I didn't spend a good amount my 8 months 15 days waiting time, wondering/worrying if it would be granted or not

My personal theory is that we are looking for pattern in how the visas are processed/granted - when there may be no pattern. ie, I was convinced I'd get mine granted, the day after another PIO member got theirs granted - because we applied a day apart. But this didn't happen! I also got my visa granted before someone else who had applied before me. Also, you'd think ours would be granted, five days after someone else (Person A), if we applied five days after Person A. But it doesn't seem to work like that either! I have no idea what the process is or how things get done, but I suspect it's not "machine like" as we imagine it should be... Plus every application is different. That's what I think anyway. :wub:

It's quite common not to hear for quite a few weeks - I waited nearly a month for my acknowledgement email. But I knew the application had been received, as the money was taken off my credit card, very quickly!

Yes happy with the 309 - we have only lived together just over 2 years (together 4 in total) so it would have been nice to get the 100 but I am happy either way! To be honest, I'm /we are not entirely sure what we will do. I suspect there will be a validation trip in September/October and the move will take place in January/February. I would want to move far enough in advance of Xmas so that the jobs/rental market doesn't slow down, as presumably it does like in all cities around the festive period -- OR to move early 2015 when things are hopefully speeding up again. So in my mind (although pending discussions over the weekend!), validation to take place in the next six -- or less months, use the trip to look at suburbs (Sydney) and to put out feelers re. jobs etc, try to look at things from a different point of view, rather than being "just" a holiday maker, and then come back here. Our tenancy agreement ends February 2015 so while not essential to tie in with that, seems to make sense to use that as an end date. But TBC! I'll be on the forum asking a whole different set of questions now :cute:
