  1. My MiL emailed them when it was approaching the period they'd originally advised to undertake medicals etc and asked them if she should still do them then or later. They replied and said she delay by 4/5 months so it would be worth contacting them and asking when you should be undertaking your medicals etc.
  2. There's an online tracker you can check which shows you a selection of applicants and the status of their application http://www.australia-parent-visas.com
  3. Does anyone know how long Centrelink can take to assess and process the AOS? My MIL is probably about 10 weeks off getting her case officer and we've been told she should start the ball rolling as it can take some time.
  4. It can be the case with some university courses...like architecture (7 years), doctorates etc
  5. It would be nice wouldn't it if they could fire off a standard email to the address on the application to confirm receipt and next steps. Unfortunately, as said above, it is likely to be several months or more before you receive an acknowledgement so the best way to know they have received your application is to monitor when the visa payment is taken. For all temporary contributory parent visa applicants here's a little update on my MiLs application. She lodged her application on on 2 September 2013 and the acknowledgement said to undertake her PCC 10 months following and medicals 12 months following lodgement. However, as I'd heard DIAC are not allocating case offers until 18 to 24 months following lodgement I got her to email them asking if she should delay her PCC and meds. They confirmed she should do them in November and December 2014 as they are currently allocating case officers 18 months after lodgement.
  6. Does anyone know where Immi are up to in allocating a case officer? Are they still allocating COs to January 2013 applicants? My MIL applied in September and should be doing her PCC now and medicals next month but I'm just wondering how long he should put them of for? TIA Lou
  7. Hi Priya Are your parents still married or together? If they are that will be why your Mum has been asked to do a medical even though she hasn't applied for a visa. Lou
  8. Hi Amanda They confirmed they'd received it 2 September but I don't think they confirmed it until November/ December, and only after she chased them several times!!!
  9. They take payment pretty quickly but don't acknowledge receipt until much later...I've heard its taking them 4 months to acknowledge receipt.
  10. Wow, my MIL isn't going to be very pleased to hear you're still waiting after 21/22 months! I wish in some respects she was going through a migration agent as I think she would believe them but when I tell her she doesn't really want to listen and I don't want her wasting her money doing the PCC and medical too early. My MIL sent off her application end of August 2013 which was confirmed received 2 September. So based on your timeline she shouldn't do her PCC until January February 2015 and her medicals until April 2015  it would be good to know jen1977 and Carob when you're both allocated your case officers
  11. You do but if you keep your case officer informed I believe they will advise you when it's time to leave the country so they can issue your visa.
  12. If it's A grade then it will be as quickly as 7 days but if it's referred it'll be longer. I struck up a good relationship with the clinic and rang them on the 7th day to check. They confirmed we were all A grade. I'm not sure if they should have told us...
  13. Anyone on here waiting to hear about their parent (permanent and temporary) contributory visa? My MIL applied in September last year (2013). I read on here CO weren't being assigned until 22 months after application. She's contacted DIAC and they've confirmed the waiting time is 16 months. I was wondering if there are any others ahead/ behind her in the queue. It would be helpful to try and time when to send off for her PCC and medicals as obviously if she does them when she was originally told to (10 months and 12 months after application) it will shortens the time she will have to validate her visa or make the permanent move to Oz (assuming of course her visa is granted). I'm sure others are in the same boat and would also find this useful.

    EOI points

You're right that if your ACCA has been assessed as equivalent to a bachelors degree you can select 'Bachelors degree - other' and that should get you your 60 points. Btw you're exactly the same points and skill ACCA as my hubby and he claimed 60 points for our visa.
  15. Having scanned the recents posts in this thread; are 173 and 143 contributory parent visas now taking approx 18 months from lodgement or is it longer of shorter than that? My MIL lodged her application in September last year. Cheers Lou
  16. The exchange rate is only relevant when you're moving from one country to another and transferring funds, otherwise it's the cost of living against your salary in that country which is relevant. For us 1.9 is fab news as we are looking to move considerable funds to Oz.
  17. I was trying to recall what we put as it was a while ago now. I remember we had the same question and toyed with the same options. I don't think it will make too much difference as your acca will have been assessed as equivalent to a degree. The main thing is that you're claiming the right number of points. If they are both 15 points then I don't think you would have too much to worry about. Lou
  18. Unfortunately you may find a diploma isn't enough to be assessed as having the required skills for accountant. Usually you have to have a degree in accounting and part qualified professional or fully qualified professional and a full member of a recognised accounting institute. Also, the longer it has been since you undertook the qualification the more likely it is your qualification won't meet all of the mandatory areas. I'd suggest you have a chat with an migration agent who should be able to advise. Lou
  19. Also someone may be able to help on the forums sister site Perth Poms.
  20. Welcome! This is a great forum to get lots of advice from people who are going through or have been through exactly the same process you're going through now. I'll answer what I can... 1) I don't see why not as they are assessing you on whether you have a relevant qualification 2) we didn't but I'm not sure if that will be the case for your occupation 3) Yes DIAC will accept the academic IELTS 4) Relevant work experience is not always required although I don't know how WA select one person over another for States sponsorship - I would think it would be something like highest point first and in application order. I would send off for your skills assessment providing you have evidence of everything needed and whilst the assessment is being undertaken retake the IELTS. Are you taking the academic IELTS because it's a requirement of your skills assessment? If so have you met the criteria for your skills assessment by obtaining 7's? Reason I ask is that if this is the case don't resit the academic IELTS, sit the general as you have met the criteria for your skills assessment. DIAC will accept the general IELTS for points so by sitting the general you may be able to obtain the the magic 8! Finally, DIAC change the rules all the time so who knows what they will change next! Good luck and hope this helps you  Lou
  21. Unfortunately your right; it's your age at the time of invitation so if you're not invited before you turn 40 you lose points. Have you checked the likelihood of being invited before then or can you increase your points any other way to increase your chances of being invited before you turn 40? Also have you done the IELTS? If not you could increase your points by obtaining 7 or above. Lou Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. If your skill is on the skills list and is in demand you could see if an employer would sponsor you on a 457 visa. This is a temporary visa for skilled professionals and is much cheaper than a 189 as it is not intended to lead to permanent residency. However, there has been a lot of political controversy recently over the 457 visas as the Australian government has been under pressure to clamp down on them in light of the current downturn.
