  1. here's a thought... stay where you are, earning above average money and keep renting but buy an investment property somewhere else and rent it out, get's you on the property ladder.
  2. Just had a thought, and maybe someone here can help me/shed some light on the following We want to apply for a defacto visa next year, all pretty straight forward, except that when we apply we will be engaged, and probably while being processed we will be getting married, ( 2/9/17 ) would this have any effects on the visa process? my partner would want to have my surname.... We can get married months before at the town hall to make everything official just before we apply for the visa if this would be easier, but would prefer not to anyone an idea?
  3. for some reason I never saw the second page, so didn't get the bit about being sponsored.. ignore my first post then
  4. sorry to bust your bubble pabby, but I'm pretty sure she'll only be able to get a whv at this point of time, and on a whv you won't be able to join her on her visa. your best bet would be for a holiday visa
  5. I know there were a few on here living around Airlie Beach, just though I'd try to see if anyone is still there? We should be moving there in 2018 and would be nice to already know someone there:cool:
  6. Does anyone know the time frame for a 309/100 visa? I've read quite a bit and some have had it in 4 months, others 8-10 months.. Just want to know when we should apply for OH visa. We will be leaving in july 2018, was thinking of applying early next year, Jan/feb 2017. Don't really want to spend another few grand on a quick trip
  7. If on the coast I would say you wouldn't need it, the only place we found cold at night while there in july was the blue mountains, for the rest it was fine, even at night on the gold coast it was around about 10/12 degrees. Maybe if inland and up higher I might get colder at night, but nothing like european winters
  8. We're looking to ship some hospitality stuff we have here in Belgium in our garage that we might use there, things like commercial stainless steel kitchen table, boxes with plates, boxes with glasses, some typical kitchen utensils and machines. Will be have to pay tax/gst on this? It's things we have, but also things I want to buy here in Europe (typical spainish plates) that we would want to uses in a restaurant/cafe. whats the deal with commercial things, It'll all look used  anyone taken in any commercial stuff with their personal belongings?
  9. PJ's never, barefoot I wouldn't go shopping, but walk around house and as much as possible barefoot, probably a bit of bogan in me
  10. your second year you can do later, I know people that have travelled home first and applied for there visa several years later.. to OP'er, the answer is NO, you need your 88 days done in Australia otherwise it'll only be the one year visa!
  11. thanks Bob, So what you are saying is that there are airlines that will take french bulldogs? So worst case scenario is that it will caost a bit more and the dog will have to go through the UK... At least my daughter will be happy knowing he can come with us... I have seen the ipata shippers in belgium and contacted them, but so far 2 have said they won't ship french bulldog's and the other hasn't gotten back yet.. thanks for your time Bob
  12. are there any airlines that will ship french bulldogs? Can wij use petairuk from Belgium? sounds like you have a lot more experience than the ones I have contacted here in Belgium
  13. We'll be using a company here in Brussels. Not sure which airlines but ermirates won't fly french bulldogs at all.
  14. Buy a car and caravan, use it for 6 months a year until you are too old.. spend a bit with the son and family, and then spend the rest exploring Oz, fantastic lifestyle if you ask me, although I do understand it isn't for everyone. While back in the UK get it serviced and then just store it somewhere
  15. None of the british companies can help as I'll be shipping from Brussels, but I've already had a quote for a flight last year and that was roughly €1500 for the flight and crate. I was just wondering quarantine and medical costs. Being a french Bulldog, not all companies want to ship him, and emirates will only ship during the summer with special permission. is quarantine $130 a day? I found this - http://www.agriculture.gov.au/cats-dogs/quarantine-facilities-and-fees/fees-for-government-animal-quarantine-faciltities#fees-charged-for-quarantine-services but can't see the daily charge, anyone know what the PEQ importation charge is?
  16. Can someone give me a rough timeline of what needs to be done for a dog, and what are roughly the costs for a dog? I can't seem to find many prices on the quarantine site. any info would help! thanks
  17. I would not offer the service of the help, but it would be interesting as a granny flat for a short term rental airbnb kind of thing, but maybe a good rate for us here, where people land and can rent for say 4 weeks for a democratic price while they look for something to rent long term and not get ripped off, or feel ripped off :biglaugh:
  18. Not shocked to wake up here in Belgium to the Brexit. I asked my british mates and all of them wanted out. I wonder which country is going to be next? Plenty of people here in Belgium would like Belgium out, but I don't think they would have the balls to vote out... I would, and then I would pi$$ off to Australia :biglaugh:
  19. I know exactly how you feel, I haven't been home for 15 years and am going in 2 weeks.. I've been longing for it for a good 9/10 years now, but due to circumstances it hasn't been possible.. We have booked a 4 week holidays and OH knows it's be tough to get me back on the plane home... One thing that I am happy about is that OH is open for a move at the right time... by the way, it's Australia we're going for a holiday to
  20. Thanks for the great update!! may I ask what you guys did in the UK to secure work, as you said you worked hard at it, just preparation or did you guys actually have a job before you landed?
  21. yes a lot of milage for only 4 weeks, but we'll be back to cover the rest, hopefully  . We have pin pointed 4 area's that we'll spend several days in each, and we know what we are looking for. I also know the area fairly well, although a lot has changed since my last visit. We've got a campervan one way and are flying out of Cairns to Hong Kong, then onto London
  22. Leaving for Australia in 3 weeks, in fact, I'll be sitting on the plane in 3 weeks waiting for take off:wink: I'm Australian, having left in '93 at 14, looking to move back with my fiancé and 6 yr old daughter, both will be in Aus for the first time, and we'll be traveling up the coast looking a places to live and at several businesses for sale We'll be arriving in Sydney and staying with my cousin in Penrith for 5 days while we do the usual tourist stuff ( home and away- palm beach for the missus, Sydney highlights, blue mountains etc... after several days my cousin and his family will join us for a week traveling up the NSW coast, stopping off at several highlights. We'll spend a few days on the gold coast at another cousins.. after that we'll be spending a day in Brisbane, day at Australia zoo, a few days at the sunshine coast and then traveling up to Cairns, stopping off at Airlie beach, Townsville and Mackay at another cousins... The of our trip is look for nice places to either take over/ set up a business. The closer to the coast/beach the better for us, ideally looking for a beachside bar/cafe.. I also have a few lines out and will be meeting a business broker or 2 while we are there.. We have rented a campervan, and I will do a report when we get back or if time during it. Hopefully all the storms and crap weather will have passed by the time we get there
  23. not many, with is unfortunate.. I would love to hear a few stories about people setting up business, or buying a business
  24. Does anyone know the new fee for the spouse visa? it's now $6865, but heard it's going up as of July 2016
