  1. @ Teejams - I'm not really worried about the so called recession to be honest, I've been following this forum for about 7 years now, so get the picture... Good luck to you guys!! @ Marisa - Recouping the price of the business isn't that bad as we will be selling ours to fund it, so we don't have it in cash now anyway, so hopefully we would be able to pay ourselves a salary from day one( if we buy an existing business that is ), and otherwise we will have a buffer of 6months or so. I would prefer QLD, only because I know it has a very strong tourist trade, and the so called recession or not won't stop tourist, whether national or international( might even get more internations due to a weak aussie dollar  ) I suppose all we have to do is have a good reccie trip and continue saving
  2. The location is not set in stone yet, thats one of the reasons why we have decided to do a reccie trip next year and travel up the coast while staying with family, We would be doing 3-4 days sydney and then travel up to the sunshine coast in a week, and then stay 4-5 days and have 3-4 days to travel back down to sydney.. We're both happy about the possible move, but since we're self employed, just wondering if we're throwing away a gold business to start all over again with the insecurities about buying a business or starting one and worrying about having nothing to fall back on if it doesn't work out
  3. Please, feel free to share your thoughts with me on this one.. Here's some info I'm Australian and live in Belgium with Belgium partner and daughter. We're thinking of selling up here and moving to Qld (sunshine or gold coast). I haven't been in Australia since early 2000. We have a holiday planned next year for 3 weeks to visit family ( from sydney up the coast to the GC) and get a bit of look around. This is the hard part though. We have a good business(hospitality) here where one works 50hrs a week and the other 35hrs, we live 5km from the business and our daughter goes to school 100m down the road from our house. We earn good money for Belgium standards ( net €5K a month) and from next year onwards our business repayments are done and we can up our net income by €2K, so we definitely can have a comfy life over here, but I've been wanting to move back to Australia for several years now ( partner knows and understands and has lived abroad before). We have finally got a reccie trip booked up to have a look around and visit family. We would sell our business here and would look for one over there after my parnters defacto visa would come through (somewhere in 2017 we think). We would have enough money to buy a business outright ( up to $250K ) and have +/- $100K savings to get set up ( cars, place to live etc etc) and don't mind putting in hours to make the business work Heres the question, do you think we would be nuts to sell up a move back to Aus with the financial uncertainty and the way the Australian economy is now ( commodities less in demand, mining problems, some even think the start of another recession) Not only for myself and my partner but I would also like to do the move for my daughter, Australian schools and lifestyle are a lot better than here and she loves sports and the outdoors. thanks
  4. stayed up last night in Belgium until 1.15 to watch it, I'm not a big golf fan, but still enjoyed the coverage on the tele.. Finally someone from Australia has won something this summer
  5. regarding your car, have a look on UK sites for the same car and see what he price is, so if you say your car is $12K, have a look if yo can get the same car for around £6K, if so then sell it there and buy a replacement, in the future an imported car will also sell for less when you want to upgrade.. As for the rest, maybe a move cube for smaller and personal stuff would do the trick
  6. Just looking at the visa possibilities for my partner. We're not married, but have been together for over 13 years, lived together since day one, have a 5 year old daughter together and have a business together ( 9 years ), but not married. We have plenty of documents from the last 10 years or so to prove everything. Am I correct to think that the visa we would need to apply for would be the 309, and we would most likely end up receiving the 100 visa? Am I also correct that the application fee is $6865?? Bloody hell, thought it was under $4000 a few years ago :arghh::arghh: Thats on way of bringing in some extra budget.. Haven't been on here for a while, so please excuse the stupidness :biglaugh:
  7. we're actually thinking of moving our stuff with a move cube, as we don't have a lot of stuff coming, and thins has to be done through the UK as they don't ship to belgium. My sister lives in the UK so will probably be using her address for the household stuff. I could also take the dog with me to hers and get him sent from the UK, would this be possible?
  8. Hi Bob, Any chance you guys could help us here from Belgium? We have a young french bulldog that is very healthy and fit and want to take him(obviously  ). If so could you send me a PM with an estimated price to sydney or brisbane. or if you can't help me do you have any contacts here in belgium or even holland? thanks Alex
  9. agree with stormy there, state is a lot better than company can't help for the rest as I have never studied in the UK
  10. if he wants you back that means you were doing a good job, and better than what some are doing now, or he can't get anyone. hit him up for a pay rise or tell him your going to one of his neighboring farms, that'll piss him off and you might just get a few bucks and hours/bin more
  11. if the drumlines can save 1 persons life, then I'm all for the drum lines. I really don't give a sh*t about sharks, but it does hit home when your husband, brother, father, next door neighbor gets bite or eaten by a shark. So many other things to get worried and worked up about in this world to get the nickers in a twist about the drumlines... If only they had drumlines in SA!!
  12. I wonder if drumlines there that this would have stopped this guy dying??? hhhhmmmmmm
  13. If I take a guess, I'd say one year working visa, otherwise know as a WHV. only because you say you need £2500 in your bank and I know a WHV you need about $5000... If it is then yes you do need 2.5K in the bank, get it on a statement and then you can do what you want. I know people that have borrowed that money for a month from their parents, and then sent it back when they had a statement. The ended up going with about $1500.
  14. A station wagon would have been better for traveling, but you can't go wrong for $500 a piece. The best thing from falcons and commodore is that every car yard will have spare if you break down. If traveling take and extra fan belt and some tools. I assume your going back rural for some farm work? A weeks work and you'll have the car paid for Get some camping gear and go exploring in the weekends now!
  15. I moved from Oz to Holland when I was 13, an to be truthfull have never really forgiven my parents for it, maybe not for the move itself but my parents sending me to an international school 30km away, taking over 1 hour on bus train and bus again living too far away from school and friends..... He will get over it, but you should really make it clear to him that you aren't going back, he is going on his US school trip and take social media away from him bar one day 1 or 2 hours...... what is he doing when he gets home or in the weekends? playing/chatting with his mates back home while his ozzie school mates are probably doing stuff together leaving him out.... Tough times ahead but things will change, just be strict an give him a bit of time best of luck!
  16. hahaha bit of the topic, but motorbike racing, mick doohan, vale, bayliss, that kind of thing..... giving it up unfortunately next year to make the move, a season cost an arm and a leg and I've only got 1 daughter and GF :biglaugh:
  17. I'm not saying don't help others, but bringing them into the country, giving them housing and all the benifits and crap is just wrong..... send them medical aid, food, you name it, just don't bring them home!!
  18. I would be proud if my country was helping it's own first, not ignoring the domestic problems and aiding others
  19. Will have to check it out, thing is though that there aren't as many people leaving belgium to go to australia, where as I can get to london and back for 200€, that's why thinking using movecube... thanks for the replies!!
  20. We're only taking important stuff and the newish stuff. We won't be taking any furniture, but things like kitchen machines, bikes, daughters toys, photo albums, tools etc etc..... I would have like to use a moving cube but they don't do one to belgium, even after I offered to pick it up myself or pay for someone to bring it here. what are our options? A container is a waste of money as we wouldn't even fill half. Either I load up my van and use my mates address in london for a move cube or I use something else, anyone any ideas or thoughts on this?
  21. that's what I would love to do, I'm going ahead of GF and daughter but not sure for how long. I would love a few months just to travel and chill and relax, but the it wouldn't be fair on the other 2..... Sometimes I just wish I was 20 again since we will be starting or buying a business I will get about 6 weeks to find the right location and then find a place to live. At least I will be traveling with my uncles caravan ( if the haven't sold it by then) and get a little camping/adventure trip out of it
  22. can't help you on any of these, but if renting you don't pay council taxes, just incase you didn't know
  23. Your english may not be perfect, but I know plenty of native english speakers that have the same problem ..... welcome and I'm sure you'll find plenty of info here, and if you don't, just ask!
  24. you probably won't have a chance not being in the country. maybe book a hostel/hotel for a week and try getting something then, I think you'll have alot more chance, having an OZ number and being able to go and view the place same day/week.
