  1. Hi Craig My OH (35) and I (29) are moving to Perth in 6 days and counting so the nerves are starting to kick in now. We will be staying with my partners uncle for a month or so until we find our feet and hopefully get jobs. My partner is a carpenter also. Luckily he lives 5 mins from Perth city centre so hopefully we will be near good transport links to start with. Good luck with getting your visas Cathryn
  2. Thanks for this, we move in 10 days so will look back on this when times are hard
  3. Please can you clarify what you mean by register with WA? Is this something else I need to add to my to do list? thanks Cathryn
  4. yippee, I'll share your excitement as we move on 8th Jan to Perth. Roll on sunshine
  5. This is a fantastic post and you have made me feel much more confident about moving in just over 3 weeks however we will be based near Victoria Park. My partners a carpenter aswell so hopefully he will be just as lucky with work. Cross fingers Thanks for taking the time to write such a positive post Cathryn
  6. Hi SoozyB We fly 4 weeks tomorrow to Perth. How about the below? * register for non resident landlord scheme with HMRC and that way you will get taxed in australia and not in uk. I found out today though that we'll still have to complete a self assessment form. * let HMRC know you are leaving the country on a form called something like leaving the uk. You send this off with your P45 * change address for any pensions- if you have any good luck
  7. HI Sniffer Thanks for this. We are renting our house out so estate agents are sorting out our electricity and water supplies Cathryn
  8. HI All I was just wondering if anyone has a list of all the organisations I need to notify in UK when leaving on a perm visa Australia? I'm going to notify the HMRC for tax purposes Do I need to notify DVLA because our address will change on our licence? I will advise doctors and dentist Can you think of anyone else? Thanks Cathryn:xmas16:
  9. Hi All We've sold our two cars and agreed to rent out our house from 27th Dec and this all happended last week. I think the rollercoaster has already started. We've got about 5 weeks and 4 days left, can you tell we're on count down. We'll be staying with my dad until we leave which will be another experience in itself It's surprising what gets me emotional like painting our house. I think it's all to do with it being one of the last jobs on the list before going. We'll be staying in Burswood with family until settled and then we'll go where ever life takes us. It's all quite liberating, whether i'll feel like this in january, i doubt it Goodluck everyone Cathryn
  10. Hi I don't know if I've missed the point but we have a HSBC account and they know we are moving to oz in Jan 13 and haven't said anything about the savings we will still have in the UK Cathryn
  11. Thanks for this, it reminds me of when we last visited in Febuary this year and it's got me excited again for when we move in Jan 2013. The way I describe Perth and surrounding areas is "magical"
  12. Wicket5 This is a fantastic post. My OH and I move out to Perth in Jan 13 and it's good to know that you are enjoying yourselves. Cathryn
  13. Hi Tamisha and Marc My partner and I aren't married either but had been living together about 5 years when we started applying. We had to provide lots of evidence to prove we were a couple. We provided information for the 5 years of the relationship including: bills (joint names), joint bank account, joint mortgage, joint letters, wills, we also had joint invitations to parties (not sure of the credability of these), joint holiday invoices (from estate agents) bank statements showing where I had paid for my partners vettasses assessment. That's all I can remember. We were lucky that I never shredded any information so we had lots to evidence our relationship. We never had any queries Good Luck Happycat
  14. Hi Lisa I'm sorry I don't the know the answer to your question but I was just wondering how hard/ easy has it been for your husband to find a job. The reason I ask is my OH is a joiner/ carpenter and we move to Perth in Jan 13. Cathryn
  15. that's a good point about items being left on the verge. We visited in Feb for a reccie and were gobsmacked to see streets with what looked like fly tipping until we were reassurred by our uncle.
  16. Hi Staceyamy, We're flying with singapore airlines so are going to Singapore rather than emirates. Hope your flight goes okay At first we are staying with family so will be staying in Burswood (5 mins from Perth) but after that we will see where our life takes us. Whereabouts are you moving to? Happycat
  17. Hi All I'm still mainly at the stage of dancing around the kitchen with excitment. My Oh says he will remind me of this closer to Jan 13 when we move when I'm panicking. It's good to know though that it's not just me who has wobbly moments. We should all make sure we stay in touch to offer each other support. It is true that friends and family just don't understand what we are experiencing as they are concentrating more on trying to change our minds. Staceyamy: We fly on 8th Jan also. We fly from manchester, where do you fly from? Good Luck everyone and remember why you have got this far already. As you can tell, I'm trying to stay positive (maybe it just hasn't sunk in yet) Happycat
  18. Hi Gemstone Thanks for that information, it's been very helpful. If you don't mind me asking, I was wondering whether you have got your car on finance or paid with cash. The reason I ask is that I'd be interested to know what evidence you needed if you bought your car on finance and any criteria you had to meet. We would prefer to get a car on finance rather than use our savings. Thanks Happycat
  19. Hi Gemstone It's lovely to hear a positive story and I hope things continue to go well for you. We are moving to Perth in January and your story has made me feel better about the move. I'm interested to know what you think has helped you settle in so quickly? Happycat
  20. HI gnd33tracy My partner is a joiner so we have been though the whole process although it is now a few years back.Firstly we had to check that his job was on the occupations list and then we had to get his skilled assessed by Vetasses. We found his skills matched more towards the australian carpenter job role rather than joiner (more bench joiner so i believe). As it was a while ago, I'm not sure who you need to apply to now but I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the direction or google assessment of carpenter skills and something useful should pop up. Good Luck happycat
  21. Hi We used the Emigration Group and a lady named Amanda was great and very helpful. We went for the full package as the whole visa system was being changed and if we hadn't had the helped of an agent, I don't think we would have had our visa now because of all the changes to the points system. By the sounds if it, the visa system seems more straightforward now. Good Luck
  22. Mrs Weazel It sounds like a really hard time. We move to Perth in January and we are now dreading looking for a place to stay. Happycat
  23. Thanks so much for this post We are moving to Perth in January and it's nice to read post that reminds us what we loved about Perth when we last visited. Thanks, Happycat
  24. Hi Mrs I and Kjjwacko Thanks for your posts. We arrive in Perth on 10th January so not long now. We are initially moving to Burswood with family and then we'll look for somewhere else to stay. To be honest, I haven't looked into this in too much detail yet, it's a job for Oct/Nov time. We went on our validation trip in Feb this year and plenty of places took our fancy but we'll probably wait for my partner's uncle to recommend somewhere and it all depends on jobs. Do you have any recomendations? We visited some new builds in Rockingham in Feb to get an idea of what we could get for our money although we don't plan on buying for a number of years. Thanks for the offer of advice, I will probably take you up on that. Although I'm very excited, every now and again I get a butterfly feeling and I think why on earth do we want to leave everything we know, good jobs and lovely friends to move somewhere where we no nothing. AAh. How did you deal with the mixture of emotions when you came to move and are you glad you made the move? Cathryn
