  1. Hi Brian, It will have to be you who’s sits the English test as you are the main applicant. Your GF Is required to fulfil her English language requirements also. I think she can use her UK passport for this unless it has changed since I applied. I’m sure someone will come along to correct me if I’m wrong. I sat the IELTS twice to get a superior score. Missed it by 0.5 the first time. These tests were not easy even for me as a British born, bred & taught in English person! So plenty of practice is advised! Although I only used the online material available and did not purchase any additional. I can not comment on other tests but I’m sure there are others that can help. Also I think there is a thread related to this somewhere Hope this helps. Sara
  2. @Kriss Hi Kriss, I am a UK registered nurse moving back to Australia at the end of the month. I applied for 3 jobs and had phone interviews for all of them. All 3 were positive with 2 job offers and the 3rd one is looking good too I got in touch with potential employers as soon as jobs I was interested in were advertised. I sent them my CV with a cover letter explaining my plans to return to Australia. Luckily I had a response from everyone I contacted. Some have kept my CV on file for future opportunities. Depending on when you are planning on making the move I would suggest your partner starts applying for the jobs she is interested in to make employers aware of her skills and provide a cover letter explaining your intentions. As others have mentioned she will need to have registered with AHPRA so I would get that done prior to any job applications as I’m sure this would be considered in the selection criteria plus most job adverts state you must have it when applying. Happy to answer any questions. Good luck!

  4. Hi, I am a UK trained diploma registered nurse. Registered with AHPRA in 2012. Went back to UK - let registration lapse. Also panicked when new requirements were put in place. Phoned AHPRA - informed I needed to fill in form AGEN40 & resend all docs plus FIT2WORK assessment. Applied end of Feb this year. Received confirmation in April. Back in Oz now - had to present at AHPRA with docs again! Started work 1st June . It does actually state on the website that nurses previously registered with AHPRA are considered eligible for registration providing they meet other conditions such as CPD, criminal history etc. have a look under internationally trained nurse FAQ section think it's about section 32 but don't quote me on that! Hope this helps. Sara
  5. Hi, I think I remember having to contact my university to send transcript directly I also remember paying approx. £60 for it!!! Maybe this is what they want. Have you emailed your reg officer? Sara
  6. Thank you. Yes, my registration officer has stipulated in my letter that I have to present with my ID, proof of address and job offer letter ( or some alternatives if you don't have a job offer letter). They want me to present by 2nd June but have offered me an extension until 16th July so effectively I have 3 months from the date of the letter. Good luck with yours. Are you in Oz at present? Sara
  7. Hi all, Just thought I would post an update... So to recap I'm a UK diploma trained nurse with previous registration in Australia which lapsed in 2013. I re-applied for my registration with AHPRA for which I got my letter of eligibility (via email) on Thursday  So it seems if you have been previously registered, as long as you meet the "standards" you can register as a diploma trained nurse. What I had to do... # Fill in form AGEN40 # Send certified copies of passport, driving licence, marriage certificate, previous registration certificate, statements of service from all previous employers, diploma certificate, transcript, NMC certificate of good standing (sent directly by them £34), signed & dated CV, ICHC reference page, application fee $150 and registration fee $150. Timeline = # 20th February - sent docs - received 2nd March # 8th March - contacted by registration officer (x1 amendment on my form, x1 amendment on a statement of service and I missed the bit about ICHC oops!) # 14th March - applied for ICHC - reference page received by email on 17th March - completed 7th April ($150 I think) # 18th March - resent docs - received 26th March # 1st April - emailed registration officer for update - informed waiting for ICHC # 14th April - emailed registration officer again!!! # 16th April - eligibility letter received! I hope this helps. I have tried to make it as accurate as I can so you can get a rough idea. I did have to send further info for ICHC and it was Easter so it probably took a little longer than it should have, they said it would be approx 4-5 weeks, 8 weeks from the date of posting isn't too bad I guess even though I did have to chase them which I am glad I did as it seemed they hadn't assessed the docs I resent until I did. Also it seems you have to present at the office much quicker than when you applied 1st time round as they have already offered me an extension as I am still in the UK. Please feel free to ask if there's anything you want to know. Sara
  8. Everything crossed! I hope you got it...?
  9. Still waiting... Still checking... :arghh:
  10. Bump... Can anyone help please?
  11. Hi all, Me again! Just a quick question... If I complete my medicals through my health declarations how long before I can lodge my visa? Thanks in advance. Sara
  12. I attached the rest of mine in the additional docs bit seems to be acceptable. Sara
  13. Im glad they didn't ask me to stand up...they'd have got a glimpse of my pink pyjama bottoms with moo cows printed all over them...but at least I had them on if they had  hahahaha! All the best for your interview Sara
  14. Hi Murta, I have experienced both a telephone and Skype interview, the latter more recently. I must say the whole experience of the Skype interview was more than a hundred times better than a telephone one. I was wearing a smart black shirt with my pyjama bottoms  I had 2 people interview me, the best thing about the interview was that I could see how they were responding to my answers and having the screen in between us provided a little protection bit of a safety barrier. I felt much more confident being able to see who I was talking to and having some smiling faces looking back at me especially as one of them is going to be my manager very soon! All the best for Tuesday  Sara
  15. I have found the worst part about the whole process is trying to get my previous employers to provide the references I need. HR depts have quickly sorted their part but the individual managers I have contacted have needed prompting several times!!! Very frustrating when you are trying to gather all your information. I know they are busy and it's not a priority for them but they don't realise how important it is for us. I am constantly checking my emails except when I'm at work (only because don't get wifi coverage otherwise I would lol) I usually wake at about 3am and check too it's crazy! My mind is constantly in overdrive too @jac2011 always what I need to do or what I'm waiting for. @mungbean I love reading so have been doing that to take my mind off things have read so many books recently it seems to work lol - good advice. I see your in Sydney...how are you getting on? I will hopefully be moving over there in May all being well. Sara
  16. I agree with Nemesis you should wait until you move out permanently. When we moved to Melbourne in 2012 my husband and I went to the VIC roads office to change his Licence it did not take long to process approx a couple of weeks. However his UK Licence remained valid which he is using now but this may be because we were on a 457 visa. Sara
  17. Thank you for your replies. @MaggieMay24 as I am a nurse I have to have the full medical for that category which seems to be the same for temporary and permanent visas so I was hoping I could reuse mine if I went the 'my health declarations' route? As I would be onshore I presume I wouldn't have a validation date? I would probably wait until nearer the time before getting my husbands medicals done as he would be offshore. I suppose I will have to wait and see what happens but here's hoping lol. @lebourvellec so does this mean that I wouldn't have to leave Australia and come back through immigration to validate? I didn't realise it had changed...for the better  Thanks Sara
  18. Hi mungbean, Have you looked at this website? http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/licence/moving-to-nsw.html Hope it helps, Sara
  19. Hi all, I will hopefully be applying for a new 457 visa (have had one before) anytime soon then once I have arrived in Australia I am hoping to submit my EOI for 189. I would like to ask a few questions relating to the above visas if anybody can help that would be great. So... I have previously held a 457 visa which included my husband - this time my husband will not be coming with me straight away as he is currently studying at university and has another 2 years to go come September. When we applied for this visa last time I as the main applicant had to provide a police check, if I am reading the information correctly it seems that we would both have to provide a police check this time? If so...am I able to apply for the 457 visa without including my husband then apply to have him added on later on, once I have moved over? The reason for this is that, all being well, I am due to start work in June and do not want my visa to be delayed as my husbands police check may not be straight forward as he wasn't exactly an angel before he turned 16. I believe his police certificate will probably state "no live trace" as he hasn't been in any trouble since he turned 16 and before that it was minor things which he merely got a clip around the ear for. My husband would be able to provide character references if needed. He has a clean record from the military and has been studying for the past 2 years now, currently studying for a degree in mechanical engineering. Basically he was a foolish young boy and misguided and had he not told me himself I would never have believed it. Obviously it is DIBP that we will need to prove this to. I was also wondering after I have been granted my 457 visa how long do I have to wait before I can apply for the 189 visa? If I am able to do this straight away I will most probably apply for this rather than try adding my husband to my 457 then at least we would only have to go through the whole police check for my husband once. If I am able to apply for 189 visa straight away am I able to use police checks and medicals that I have provided for my 457 visa? Theoretically speaking they would still be valid as they would be under 12 months old (if the EOI comes through in time). Just thinking maybe I could save some pennies lol! Incase you were wondering I would be able to claim the maximum points required for the 189 visa. Sorry if I have said anything that doesn't make sense but please ask if you want any further info. Thanks, Sara
  20. Hi, Just wondered if you had any progress with this? I have just submitted mine yesterday. Other than my session timing out, whilst I scanned docs, I didn't encounter any other issues. I didn't have a U.K. police check done I thought that was the whole point of this or am I wrong? Thanks Sara
  21. Hi skyeman, I lived in Melbourne for a short while back in 2012. My base salary was just under $55,000 that's before any extra allowances & tax. There was only two of us, my husband & I, we rented an apartment for $495 per week. I was the sole earner at the time as hubby was struggling to find work. We only just managed to scrape by on this, it wasn't easy. Obviously your looking at cheaper rentals but will have 2 extra mouths to feed. We didn't claim any benefits so maybe that will help. I don't think it's impossible but it might not be easy & when you have to you manage just depends on how much you want to. Sara
  22. Thank you for the info
  23. Thanks for your reply Ozmaniac. Probably a silly question but if I am supposed to lodge the visa application and my employer does the nomination part how can they both be lodged at the same time? I am willing to risk lodging at the same time as I have a potential start date with my employer which is in 3 months time, the only thing holding me back is that I am awaiting my registration to go through with AHPRA too other than that I have all my other documents I would just need to sort my medical and I believe a police check this time? I really don't want to lose my job offer by making my employer wait too long. Cheers Sara
  24. Hi all, I apologise in advance if this has already been asked. I had a 457 visa granted in October 2012 which is still showing "in effect" on my immi account. I believe, as I have been back in the UK for the last 2 years this visa has now ceased? Therefore I need to start from scratch and apply for a new one? My sponsor is in the process of sorting my nomination, my question is do I need to contact DIBP to ask them to cancel my previous visa? (I believe my previous employer notified DIBP when I left and I departed Australia straight away at the time). Also when can I start applying for the 457, do I have to wait for my nomination to be approved before I can lodge application? Thanks in advance. Sara
