  2. Hi all, I am in the process of my 189 visa, already lodged and waiting for grant. After last year hearing all the terrible news about the AHPRA changes, I am a diploma he nurse, so I knew it was going to have to be bridging course or I topped up. I didn't think I would logistically be able to do the bridging course when getting over there, as I need to earn money as soon as we get there, and the cost of the bridging course in addition is shocking! So I opted for going with open uni here and to do their top up degree in just a year. Then applying for ahpra. Well i have to say Im really struggling to do two modules back to back on top of working full time! The amount of work I have to do is ridiculous!! I keep saying to myself, just crack on so nearly there...one more hoop to jump through...but it's easier said than done. I have 2 kids and a job that supposed to give me 3 x 12 hr shifts a week, but rarely does (good old nhs) this week alone I'm doing 5! I don't get hardly any chances to study but when I do sit down, I look at the sheer quantity they are wanting from me...and I just don't have it in me... was was just wondering if anyone had any ideas or experience of bridging courses over there, as I'm starting to think of possibly finding a way of making that work?? any advice would be much appreciated... sarah
  3. You are right it is exciting/scary. We have wanted this for years...but now it's really starting to happen and we lodged our visa I've been getting quite scared aswell as excited!! So much change!! Can't wait though.. Sydney is a great place! I noticed you saying your wife has ahpra already, good on her! I'm one of the diploma casualties! So I'm having to do a top up degree now..otherwise it's a change of career for me!
  4. Hi all, will be interested in your views bondiboy and the rest of you. We are hoping to move to sunny coast next year and we have 2 boys 7&8 and are interested in the schools in that area, so will keep an eye on your updates x
  5. Hey guys, Well it seems we are all pretty much at the same stages with our medicals etc I have mine next week, I'm sending off my police check tomorrow so after next Friday it's just waiting time..I too have been seeing the August lot getting there's! How exciting, 2 months would be lovely. i just then have to crack on with my open uni course to top up my degree this yr and I can tackle AHPRA and get out next year!! When do u guys hope to get out? X anyone looking at sunny coast or brissy? X
  6. Thanks guys! Looking forward to getting it all done! Sending off the police checks this week, then once the meds are done it's just waiting time! X good luck everyone! Let's hope we hear before Xmas! X
  7. Thanks ashlie, fingers crossed all will be ok. Has anyone on here been for their medicals yet? Mine are booked for the 7th November. What is the process when you get there ? Do they get in touch with your GP? I assume they do...is it just blood test and then X-ray if needed and General check up? Im getting a little anxious about the medical, I don't really know why, none of us have any major stuff going on, just little niggling things?
  8. Hello, I'm a nurse and I haven't gone through an agent, I just researched all the info from the relevant websites, anmac, AHPRA and diac website. All seems fairly straightforward, and the odd question I have got help from all you lovely people on here. I also went to a down under live expo, that was fairly helpful for obtaining info, especially speaking to agents there...I was tempted after meeting them..however when I saw how much they were charging £2k+ when I looked at the websites I realised I could do it myself online. i started with IELTS test, then I went for ANMAC assessment. Once they were all passed I then expressed an interest and yesterday lodged my application. i haven't yet applied to ahpra yet, as I need to finish my top up degree. hope this helps! Good luck! X
  9. Hi all, I have just lodged tonight!! yay!! Finally, it has taken us a while, as waiting for docs but finally got there. I have front loaded all my docs, just need to arrange PCC and medicals now. I just have a few questions, as I am abit nervous as we have done this ourselves. 1) I have just colour scanned all my docs, uncertified...im really hoping this is ok. As I have heard this is ok?? 2) When going through the medical questionnaire, it asks if you have any mental health problems...I am on citalopram for low mood/mild depression...would that constitute as a mental health problem?? I guess it would so I need to declare yes? 3) Does my husband as second applicant need to prove his english ability other than passport? Hope anyone can help with these?? Looking forward to hearing guys when we fingers crossed get these grants!! I cant believe i am finally at this point!! So exciting but nerve wracking!!
  10. Hello all, We are just preparing our visa 189 lodge application. I have filled in as much as I can..so far..just abit confused..I am not claiming work points, as I have only been qualified as a nurse for a year. However, it has asked me to complete 10 yrs employment history. So I have done this...will I get asked for any proof of anything? As I havent bothered gathering payslips and references etc as Im not claiming any points. Also on one of the last pages, it asks you if you have lived in any other country other than the usual residence...well we spent a year travelling around australia 10 yrs ago..do i need to put yes on this?? If anyone can help, that would be great. Many thanks Sarah
  11. I havent actually uploaded mine yet, I'm awaiting abit more stuff...but as far as I have read they do accept colour scanned copies of the original, without certification. I hope so anyway as I havent got any of my stuff certified. I did for ANMAC, but once I read about colour scanning, I thought I'd save some money. Hope that helps
  12. Thanks for the reply..yeah I have started the arduous task of scanning in tonight. We hadn't yet got our documents certified, as I had read online somewhere that colour scans of the original are enough? Ive just asked again somewhere on another thread to see if anyone else has done this. I hope so! Yeah I am just preparing all the docs and then when hubbys passport comes in, ill scan that in, and off it will go! Very excited! Waited an awful long time for this! As Im sure most of us have! I asked this question earlier, you may know, but how did you proof your partners english ability, is it just passport alone, or did they have to do ielts test? Or I read somewhere that they had to get a report from school to say been taught in english for 5 yrs? Just a few worrying niggles I want straightening out, im hoping all will become clearer when I actually just do the application. Thanks
  13. Thanks very much guys! Very helpful! I'm sure my kids will be very relieved to hear there are no needles coming at them! Also another couple of questions, i keep losing the info on the website, that I just wouldnt mind answering, im currently scanning all my docs in and Im colour scanning the originals, does this mean that I do not need them certifying>? Lastly, my husband is english, how does he prove that other than his passport, he doesnt have to do ielts does he?? I read somewhere about proving that he has been educated for at least 5 yrs at secondary school in english, is that right?
  14. I am just in the process of lodging my visa application. I am going to wait for the medicals to be asked just so I have abit of extra time. What I would like to know, is I am sure I have read that all family members will need one, so that will be me, my husband and 2 children. Both of mine are under 11 so I believe they won't get asked for a chest X-ray. What sort of things will they do to the kids, will they take bloods?? Im just dreading the whole blood thing with the kids, one of my boys does not like needles!! ? can anyone give advice of what to expect? X
  15. Hello thanks for reply! Well I have just received my invite!! Very excited!!! Just need to get a few bits together including the passport, when you go on, and press apply does it allow you to add a few bits and then save and comeback, like it did the Eoi or do you have to continue with it and pay straight away. Best get that passport hurried along and all my other bits together! Eek!
  16. Hello all, We have submitted our E.o.i and are hoping to get invited in the next rounds on monday. Fingers crossed! If that is the case, then we would like to lodge asap, when going to lodge your application, what do you actually need at the beginning. Reason I am asking is, slight panic we have just realised my husbands passport has just expired?! He has applied for a new one, but I'm thinking do I wait to lodge when that comes back or go ahead and lodge, pay the fees and start uploading docs as and when they get scanned. As I can upload all the rest? Second question, the individual passport photos, do you need to write anything underneath them or anything to state who is who? sorry for daft questions, but we are doing this ourselves and don't want to mess up x
  17. Hello nursealex, I too have applied to open university in October to do the top up degree! I'm also working full time too, think we are in for a tough year but needs must eh! Good luck with your course! X
  18. Hi all, Just a quick question, at what point is the waiting time determined from, the time that you submitted your online occupation..12-16wks from there? Or from the time they receive the docs? I'm currently waiting on anmac now and I'm getting so inpatient! Lol Just wasn't sure, I submitted my docs on the 3rd June, but they didn't receive them until 26th June. So I'm not sure if I take the 12 weeks from the second date? X
  19. Yes I have been looking at the derby one too! Thank you! Looking into a few options! X
  20. I'm in similar boat when my anmac comes back, I'm currently just diploma trained but have been looking at topping up now! See if that increases chances! I think I am going to go ahead and apply for visa anyway as I am determined to find a way to work over there, even if I have to do bridging course or retrain or something. Once my visa app has gone through ill start the dreaded ahpra and hope that some if it may be sorted and smoother by then! Eek , how long did it take for anmac to email you to say that they received your docs? I still don't have that yet?
  21. After following this thread for a while now, I'm starting to panic further...as it seems quite a few of you have post grad top up degrees and still getting refused and referred to bridging program. so am I right in thinking if I apply for ahpra with just a diplomaHE I will get flat out refused?? I only qualified a yr ago so haven't done any post grad stuff yet. I'm going to be here for at least a year yet waiting for anmac and visa submit, and then saving so I'm thinking of topping up my degree if I can..I may aswell. Am hoping it might give me more chance with ahpra. Do u guys think this is a good idea? Appreciate any advice..I too have been on twitter asking questions to ahpra it's such a nightmare!
  22. Hi there, I posted my anmac docs 2 weeks ago, I tracked them through Royal Mail, and it arrived on 26th June. So just over a week ago. But I believe my assessment won't start until I get my email notification that they received them. How long did this take for you guys?
  23. I'm waiting for my anmac now, I sent it off last month, and am then going to be applying for my permanent residency. I haven't applied to ahpra yet..I am just really hoping what with all this ahpra nonsense they don't change the criteria too!! Nervous times! I'll watch your posts with interest. X
  24. Blimey you all have been busy! I shall do my bit too, I haven't as yet applied to APHRA as I was waiting for the rest of my stuff to come back, today I found out that on my 2nd attempt I have passed my ielts, so I'm mega chuffed...but it is indeed bitter sweet as although all the visa steps are starting to take place, currently waiting for my anmac now and then I'm ready for visa application...I ask myself is all this going to be wise considering I might not even be able to work there??? i really feel for all of you that have been going through this for months and especially those that have sold houses and are either waiting or already over there! I can't imagine the stress u must be going through. I'm just really hoping they start to look at this, with all of the uproar it's causing. I'm slightly anxious especially with the publicity ranking up they don't change the goalposts further and change anmac or visa requirements!!! Eek! I have already started looking at bridging courses, just to gain some insight into what potentially I might get offered. 3 months course in a state I don't want to live in and no clue how I'm going to support my family whilst doing it...doesn't sound promising!!!
