  1. This is really worrying news! I'm so sorry to hear of your stories that have already got a lot further than me, and sound so distressing!! They really have us over a barrel. Im only at the beginning of the process, although have been working hard on this dream now for 5+ years. I have happily retrained as a nurse, and gaining suitable post grad experience, have taken 2 ielts courses now and have sent off docs to anmac. Just waiting on that and I'll be ready to apply for the 189 visa.. I haven't registered with ahpra yet, and was hoping some of this would die down before applying. I initially wanted to try and get a job before leaving the uk but without registration that looks impossible now. As potential employers in oz won't consider you without registration. Have been looking into these bridging program's, and frustratingly they are mostly in Victoria?!? but we wanted to move to queensland? So it potentially looks like if i am lucky enough to get through this whole process, I now have to relocate to Victoria for 10 weeks pay an obscene amount of money just to do a bridging course before I can start applying for jobs as a nurse! How on earth I am expected to support my family in that time?? Am fed up of the constant goal posts being moved! Why is this so difficult, they are putting so many families through so much stress..
  2. Hey everyone, Well a few months ago I sat the academic ielts, as I needed it for anmac to get above 7, and I also need the 20 points for my visa so was actually hoping to get above 8. These were my scores..listening - 9, speaking - 9, writing - 8.5, and reading - 7.5.... Grrrr!! I got enough for anmac though, so thought brilliant sent that off. However I still need that pesky 8 for my visa, so I figured this time I would do general as I heard it was easier... oh oh dear I sat the general today and I'm not sure that it was easier?? I found it abit different, but not in a good way, I also looked and to score 8 on the reading on general you can only get 2 wrong, whereas on academic you can get up to 5 wrong and still score an 8?!?!?! im panicking now as I feel I may have failed again!!! arghhh! If I do I have no idea what is going to be best for me to resit, the general or academic! Anyone else have these problems!!!
  3. Did you guys post your docs or use courier?
  4. Hello everyone! Hi im just getting final docs ready for anmac, and was just wondering if I should post or courier my docs to anmac? What did everyone else do? If I do go with courier has anyone got any good names to recommend? Thanks sarah
  5. Well AHPRA have just tweeted me back...I asked that if anmac can assess me as competent, and diac can give me a visa...why can't ahpra register me, so how can i work? This is is there response....ANMAC and AHPRA are two separate entities. aNMAC assesses suitability of international applicants for skilled migration. NMBA & AHPRA assess suitability requirements for reg as RN/EN/midwife as per national law. (They then referred me to link to their page on international qualified nurses and midwives) Their suggestions... 1) you can apply with AQF6 qualification; your reg may be refused with referral to complete bridging program within 12 mths or 2) upgrade your DipHE to bachelor degree nursing qualification (AQF7) in uk or aus. well I have just looked at topping up my degree as I would have liked to anyway....it's going to cost me £6k and take me 2 yrs, to which I will be past 40 and lose my points on my visa!! arghh!!! I need to find out more about doing it that side I think!!
  6. Haha yes it certainly is squeaky bum time nedkelly! I have been watching this thread with interest. I also have been tweeting ahpra. I am yet to register with them yet, but I have just sent off my Anmac this week, and I am about to sit my 2nd ielts next weekend for the extra points for the visa. I'm really worried looking at all these threads, as I am diploma trained. The next step is the big 189 visa but I am cautious if I can't work... I spoke to a migration agent last week to try and see if he knew anymore. He seems to think it won't be a problem, he thinks this new model is for other 'foreign' nurses (his words) that have been coming in on rubbish diploma's. He seems to think UK diplomas are regarded well in oz. Only time will tell....just wanted to say hi. My sympathies go out to the ones that have already forked out thousands already with this process, and are going through this stress.
  7. Hi all, Think I have asked this already but thought I would ask again to see if anymore responses. I am in the process of getting all my paperwork ready for anmac. The thing is I don't want to ask my current employer for a professional reference yet as not long started there, can I just use my previous employer?! As long as I have more than 3 months experience (I have 6) in my current occupation which is nursing that should be enough shouldn't it? I am not needing extra for visa points. If anyone can offer advise would be much appreciated. many thanks sarah
  8. Just bumping this for more replies as curious to hear what other people have done too...thanks for your reply nic. I just read on anmac that for professional reference it needs to be minimum of 3 mths and practising in that field...well the problem is im not practising in critical care now, only oncology. Looks like I am probably going to have to wait another month and ask my current employer i think.... What do people think?? I am applying for 189 visa.
  9. Hello! Me again...I have a dilemma I have worked in critical care for 6 mths post qualifying and then l left and am now working in oncology for the last 2 months. i am gathering information for my anmac docs and I am going to write to my first job for a professional reference, but atm I'm reluctant to inform my new employers of my plans for a reference off them...do you think I can just submit my prev job as a professional reference....and if I do the problem I have then is I will need to submit the Anzsco code as critical care one. But I no longer want to work in that area....do you think it matters? I don't mind if that's the one they use and I get through as long as I am not held on it. As I plan to keep in oncology when getting over there if I can, I just didn't want to get a reference off them just yet, as I fear if I tell them my long term plans just yet they will halt my training. Currently about to embark on chemotherapy training etc.. any advice?
  10. Thanks so much for this! Yeah I think I will get the majority of stuff ready, but like you said I thought the email might be helpful in giving me all the details of what I need to send. So will go online tomorrow I think. good luck with your anmac too! Hopefully you will get to hear soon! Keep us updated x
  11. Hey, sounds like we are at similar stages. I've been busying myself with anmac stuff today, trying to book notary etc. It's all so exciting.. But I'm also getting inpatient now I just want to get out there! Im also booking my second ielts test but general this time, fingers crossed I nail it this time! Grrr! I'm like you, due to age I need the highest level of ielts for the points . I have just started a new nursing post and i daren't ask my new boss for a professional reference yet!? I don't really want her to know yet... Do you think they would accept my last job ? Or do you think they would need both old and current?
  12. Hey everyone! Just a quick question, I have just completed my ielts exam. I am now starting the process of gathering all my docs ready to do the anmac. I was just reading what was required and I noticed that I can apply online and submit the application form, they then email you all the details of supporting docs they require. Is there a time limit on how long you have to return these? I didn't want to submit my online form just yet as I haven't got all my docs yet and didn't want to lose my chance if something is delayed? Or does it not matter? thanks sarah
  13. Thanks everyone! I got overall 8.5 on academic. So thought I was in the clear then realised I had 9 for listening, 9 for speaking, 8.5 on writing but got bloody 7 for reading!! Grrr! So I have enough for anmac, thankfully so can get started on that now. But need to rebook a general one now for the visa. How annoying!! X thanks for all the advice guys!
  14. Hey everyone! i have my ielts exam on Saturday and I'm proper cracking it!! Lol i feel like we have been waiting to get this process started for so long.. The pressure is mounting! I am doing the academic one as I need maximum points for the visa. So this is a score of 8 or higher isn't it? Just in case I don't, I can't remember my options...I need ielts for anmac and the visa. Can anyone help? Many thanks sarah
  15. Thanks everyone for your replies! Some good advice and I will check out those links! I now have my hearing aids! What a pain they are already. I'm seeing the ENT consultant at the end of the month, so will know more then! Fingers crossed it's nothing that is going to cost loads! X will keep you posted! X
  16. Hello all, i am am just starting the long process of applying for the 189 visa with my family. I am right at the beginning, booked in for my ielts test soon. But I guess I'm just panicking abit ahead of myself and just after some reassurance. Today I have just been told that I have mild to moderate hearing loss and will need hearing aids! Plus a referral to an ENT consultant, I am only 38 so is abit of a shock. So my first thought was, is this going to effect me for my medical in Australia? As here in the good old nhs , my hearing aids, batteries, parts, fittings are all going to be free. Is this going to add up cost wise for them over there? Along with this I suffer from mild depression and am on antidepressants. Other than that fingers crossed I have no other medical issues. my son has a peanut allergy so has 2 epipens he carries around, and asthma and has a brown and a blue inhaler along with some asthma tablets daily. i read somewhere that the threshold is $35,000 per annum for medical costs, I don't think both mine or my sons would amount to this...so I am hoping we would be cleared?? Can anyone offer any knowledge of experience to this?? Xx
