  1. I very much depends on you heat tolerance, I have heard many great things about Townsville and is on my to do list. A friend of mine just moved up there from Central Queensland and loves it. It's very hot and pretty humid up there, I would say if you don't like the hot weather then maybe it's not for you, but a real nice place to live on all accounts. Don't know enough about Toowooba to comment but also heard nice things. Good luck with your choice, sounds like you can't go wrong having the two lovely places to chose from.
  2. We love Bundy....We go camping at Bagara...great place to live
  3. Hi there, OH, myself and Daughter now 6 moved to the Gladstone area June 2012... Still here and loving it!! :jiggy:
  4. Your great post made me chuckle, glad your settled in, good luck with the new job :policeman: I live on the east coast so don't sent the MIL here lol.....

    Muscle Atrophy

Walking through water or use a noodle to hold yourself up and tread water, leg raises under water, that will help with building your muscles gently. I worked as a fitness instructor that looked after people referred to me by there GP to exercise with various medical conditions. Keep sessions short to start with 15 mins and build up time and increase effort to full swimming gradually when/ if you feel you can manage. Also so sit down/stand up are great for building up leg muscles. Stand up in Front of a chair like you were going to sit down. Slowly sit down and stand back up...now this might seem easy but it's harder than you think. Try to do 10, you can use another chair back to help balance or to help you at first, gradually increase if you can and work towards standing back up just before bum hitting the chair. Don't forget to lightly stretch after you sessions. Swiss balls are great for rehabilitation also. Maybe you could ask a local trainer with a background in rehab to recommend a few for you. X hope this helps a little.
  6. It is rather bizarre that magpies seem to hate people on bikes, very strange. My poor daughter got badly swooped last year and flatly refuses to use her bike until the birds stop attacking, it quite frightened to see them relentlessly swooping and dive bombing lol OH is a keen road cyclist and one of his routes they do on a Tuesday evening Is particularly bad for this, OH looking over his shoulder whilst riding a high speed to find a Magpie an inch from the back of his helmet...following him :biglaugh: shouldn't laugh really :biglaugh:
  7. Only been a few places so far but Byfield State Forest, Bagara Bundy, Sunshine Coast. Our plan in the next year is a Trip to Cairns though. We would love to bush camp but were not experienced enough yet lol and need a little more equipment on our 4x4. Baby steps!
  8. Me, OH and DD age 6 moved to Queensland last June 2012. We stayed at a holiday let in Noosavilee for 5 weeks whilst OH (EC&I Engineer) looked for work :err: I have to say it was very daunting on arrival having never been to Australia before. We were jet lagged and scared half to death lol. Looking for work was tricky at first, getting to know what and how to search, tweak CV abit more but hey presto after 5 weeks OH got offered a fantastic job in Central Queensland! Perfect location for us as we're not and never intended to be city dwellers. I have to say he's on a great salary and never had it so good. The amazing climate here suits us, we're always out and about, taken up camping, Kayaking, going to the beach! Apart from the odd grizzle and at times it's still hard and still getting used to the culture, these things really do take time and patience but thanks to the glorious weather and super lovely locals in our area we have made a really go start. We certainly live a good life now, doing wayyyyy more than we would of or could have afforded back in the UK. My Daughter has a truly amazing state school and is very happy there. We still take things slowly and a month at a time but for now we are as happy as we can be....and long may it continue....... Im not one for writing much but hope this all make sense :wubclub:
  9. I actually think Big W quality is not too bad..... But they don't stock anything that I would like to wear. If they did I would probably buy it. The Michelle Bridges exercise range isn't at all bad from BW, washes a wears fine. Just wish they stocked better fashion choices, it's very mumsie and just not me.
  10. That's the thing, there's no need for poor quality. In the UK you can buy clothes from the super markets, cheap as chips and still be of better quality than some pumped up high price bit of tat here. Iv had many bits of clothing, underwear from Tesco, Asda and it's washed and washed and still looks great. I have a couple of believe it or not very pretty fashionable dresses from Matalan back in the UK, I wear it and wash it...still perfect a year n half on. As I said there's just no need for it.
  11. I have to buy my clothes on line from UK as we simply don't have the shops in my area to be able to buy anything that is not a vest top or cropped denim hot pants :err: i buy lots of lovely dresses of good quality and style for a fraction of the cost it would be here, so I will continue to do so all the time there is no choice of clothing, bad quality and poor fashion! My OH is a very keen cyclist but now buys much of his gear from eBay China/Hong Kong, and from the UK cycling shops. Too many things simply don't last a fall apart. And customer services can be poor when asking for exchange or refund of said broken product.
  12. Did we have a Winter? :biglaugh: Oh yeah... Maybe one or two days of 16 degrees I remember... Don't ya just love winters in the tropics  and OH had to wear jeans once :err: he was not at all impressed to break the year shorts only rule. not looking forward to the blasted swoopers though, saw a young kid get attacked yesterday, will put my bike away now till there gone!
  13. Ooohhh I love this thread. I have always wanted to keep chicken but have not been able to up to now. We are looking to buy our first Oz house in the next year, hopefully at least an acre if we can. First on the list once we move in is chickens and this coop is perfect. I would be so upset to wake one morning to find some thing ate them and this seems to keep them safe out of harms way while giving them space. :cute: Thanks for this great info!
  14. If you have school age children.... You have to cross with the crossing lady which walks out and blows a whistle before you can cross, this also applies when you have dropped said child at school! You can't cross on your own and have to wait for the lady/man to stop traffic, blow whistle for you to cross on your own lol. Now I don't mind this one little bit now and always have a kind word to say to the friendly crossing people.....but took a bit of getting used to, and wasn't sure whether to cross on my own or I needed to wait at first( whilst not having child with me!) Also it is quiet amazing how many people don't want to stop for the lollipop lady .....or Zebra crossing... Often people seem not to WANT to stop, sshockingly mums during drop off times :chatterbox::eek:
  15. A rashie/ Rash vest is a Sun factor 50+ long or short sleeved swimming top, for the beach, beach/sea sports. Keeps you from getting burnt as even factor 50 sun cream doesn't work in summer time. A absolute must IMO, specially for kids, but we all have one in our house. It's a pain having to apply and re-apply heaps of horrid sticky sun lotion otherwise.
  16. Our parcel delivery person in our area leaves any parcels that aren't sign for on the front doorstep. :wideeyed:So if your out for the day, weekend..you have to hope it's still there when you get home! Most people round our way are honest as the day is long so I don't worry too much anymore but if I know parcel is arriving, I try to wait in for it...just in case.
  17. Haha yes...we didn't put our bins out Xmas day as we thought they would never work Xmas  but bugger me..there they were :biglaugh: And the postie took some getting used to on his little scooter... You can here him coming up the road....ohh the post is here! Lol Still have a little chuckle when I see postie now and again!
  18. Avo...Avacado Servo..Petrol Station Reno...Renovation/Renovating Macca's....Mc Donald's fast food All sweets are called Lollies :chatterbox: wether it's has a stick or not! Ice Lollies....Icy Pole....again with or without a stick! And as some one else mentioned , make sure you park facing the way your driving, I was caught out by this lol until some kind lady said if I new I was parking illegally :embarrassed: Its funny to watch TV and the presenters/news reader seem to use all these shortened slang words also...takes some getting used to. I'm not into these sorts of shortened slang type word, in the UK or here so I say it as it is....the whole word lol
