  1. So after being here for over a year we decide to buy a property, offer accepted today so trip to the real estates to do notice and break the lease. Our lease so we though was to end 31st January 2014, we always sign for six month, however, apparently the owner in strutted the agent to go for a year tie in this time, agents never informed us of this instruction, we have mistaking lay signed until 31-7-2014... Leaving us with a huge lease break and rentals not getting let here atm. As we were expecting the lease to end on the 31-01 we have glanced/ scanned the forms and took the 7 for a one which it does look like on the forms. now the agents arnt having a bar of it and said we have signed it and should have checked properly!! We may now have to pull out of our house buy and I'm absolutely devastated as I hate renting. i can't see how they can get away with not passing infomation onto us and extending a year without consultation, just sent new forms with this long lease. any help here would be good, Rta said we signed the lease so are responsible but we were not fully informed other than a date on the form. :arghh:
  2. The first six months is the hardest, I found not thinking it was a 'forever thing' and just kept thinking that we're living here at the moment and are going to get on with it, nothing has to be forever, try to have a great couple of years exploring and just living the life in Australia for what it is, after a while you may just relax and before you know it things might have fallen into place a little more. Go back in a few years if you still feel the same then, but for now live for the moments . The bad days will get better and fewer between. Good or luck to you all x
  3. Oh wow, you really sound like you deserve every bit of that visa :cute: Congratulations and the very best of luck x
  4. Well it sounds like you have settled in nicely, glad your all enjoying life. as for the ear thingy.....I have flown quite a lot long haul but never experienced the dizzy (in a lift sensation) that I felt after flying to OZ, I took a whole week to go.....was horrid.....but I'm sure it will pass. Did u fly on an airbus? It was my first time on an airbus and I think there altitude is a little higher hence the trouble with ears. Hope you feel better soon.....keep on enjoying :wubclub:
  5. I have that app, it's very good and I always check it. Sun protection needed from 7.50 to 3.30 here in CQ with a UV rating of 12
  6. Hes getting better, cos I nag him  But not careful enough. He also has fair skin, lots of freckles and moles so the worst kind of skin......he thinks he doesn't have to apply sun screen to his legs cos his leg hairs protect him  ....men.....
  7. Glad your ok and caught it early, my Hubby burns himself to one extent or another every weekend :chatterbox: I have told him I don't know how many times but still it happens! This weekend it was his right arm that he burnt whilst driving. But he clearly knows best :nah:
  8. We are waiting to transfer also, should have done it a couple of weeks back at 1.74  Kicking myself now...not sure what to do either!

    Walking the dog...

We want pics please  So we can make up our own mind..... that is a bit weird though, I quite like poodles, saw one that had a pink fro going on the other day....don't think I saw anyone running up the road screaming! Lol.
  12. My father was in the Armed Forces so grew up moving from place to place. As kids my sister and I were given the option of going to boarding school. The subject was bought up on a few occasions but us kids flatly refused to go. I would have been heart broken if my parents sent me against my will, however.....I know now that it would have been far better all round for our education and to a certain degree stability if we had of gone. My education suffered a great deal due to all the upheaval. So I would say that it's really a fine line whether you send them because you know it will be for there own benefit in the long run or you go along with what your kids want if they don't want to go ( which I suspect they won't). It's a very hard choice of which I'm not sure I could do even now. Best of luck x
  13. Yes Mackay has very similar temperatures as we do.
  14. They also forget that there's something in the middle between Cairns and Brisbane
  15. Definately agree with you, we have found quite a big difference in the weather in Brissy to CQ, we spent afew days there in July and I was soooooo cold, couldn't wait to get back to my nice warm climate in Central Queensland! My husband has clients fly up from Bris and they comment on how much warmer/hotter it is.
  16. Looking at your other questions, it's about 45 mins drive from Yeppoon to Rocky. We did have flooding last January when it poured hard for 4 days non stop, parts of Rocky were under water and cut off as was the Gladstone and surrounding Areas but on the whole although you have to be prepared and keep updated with the weather changes it's not really a problem. It is ALOT hotter all year round up here though than Brissy so hope you like the heat but should get a nice sea breeze if living on the coast.
  17. Mmnnn Just didn't like the look of the place much, there are better areas very close that have nicer houses, looked nicer, fresher, cleaner, that's all. . Just my two pence worth though, and my preference. You might like it. You can get most of the things you need in Rockhampton so I would worry too much, I t has a big hospital. Just a short flight to Brisbane if you need a trip back.
  18. Here in Central Queensland it lasts for nine months of the year....mid twenties or above ......just beautiful
  19. Hi, we live just south of Rocky, just outside Gladstone but visit Rocky quite abit. Firstly why don't you like Brisbane? Just so I can see if those reasons will be the same once moved to Rocky..I can help you compare. Rocky is a lot different to Brisbane, it's a regional city and that itself poses challenges. Saying that, we love living regional and Rocky and surrounding areas has a lot to offer families and lots to do and see in that area. There is a free zoo which is going to be upgraded soon so even better, and large Botanical Gardens, and large family park to go to with BBQs and monorail for the kids to play on. Theirs Byfield forest with great camping sites, a great place to spend the weekend. ZLots of Islands to visit being on the Great Barrier Reef. Rocky has a good shopping Centre, nothing like Brissy but it does ok. Plenty of places to eat out at. Nice beaches nearby. I personally am not all that keen on Yeppoon but emu Park and further along there are nice suburbs to live. I can't help too much on this as we don't live there, just driven round many times. No know edge on schools either sorry but I do know they have a fairly wide choice to choose from. Hope this has help a little, good luck.
  20. We went into the big commercial camping shop as they have lots of product/tents already put up on display so you can see what sort of things we needed to start with and theyy give great advice if unsure. as for tents, I would go for a 6 man tent, we have this for 3 of us and I'm really glad. If your living, eating, sleeping in these tents for more than a couple of days it sure does pay off to have a little extra room. Ensure the sleeping compartment is fully sealed from bugs and critters. You can buy blow up beds that are very comfy and cheap, we all have a single one each as my hubby is a lot heavier than me and I would be bounced about at night with his turning over and so on. Get the basics to start with and have a look at what other campers bring with them and what you feel you need extra next time you go. We learnt a lot from the first trip and have added to our equipment as we have gone along. We bought two of the little gas camping stoves as we felt one wasn't enough when cooking a meal. Camping in Australia is so much fun with great campsite that have great facilities. We are enjoying it so much and hope you get the camping bug also. Enjoy x
  21. My son is in the same position, he's coming out with his girlfriend for a year but doesn't have that amount of money. But as he stated on his visa application, he is staying with his parents who will provide financial support. Worst case scenario if they stop and ask for cash details at customs, which is only a small chance, they will contact the family your staying with and ask for conformation/proof of your situation. You'll be fine don't worry. hope you have a great adventure.
  22. Get most the dirt off with a hose then put them in the washing machine! That's what we did, brings them up a treat
  23. I remember how sick to my stomach I felt in the early days and in the first 6 months. It took Hubby 5 weeks to get a job then 3 months trial period! I was very stressed through this settling in time. I totally sympathise with you and can only say that it does for the most part get easier with time and when your Husband finds work..which he will..... Try to keep your chin up  Best of luck
  24. Sounds amazing! I'm sooo jealous. Can't wait to see the photos. Glad you made it in one piece
