  1. Sounds amazing, I can't wait for this trip. I life long dream of mine to visit cairns.
  2. Great info! Thanks so much Britchix, as we are short of time, we need to be productive. I will look these places up. I will have my son and girlfriend with us who are over on a WHV so want to give them a great time.
  3. Will do, thanks for that Bobj
  4. I think it's ok for a week, two at the most per year at Primary age, especially at the end of term, as someone else said, they only miss watching Dvd's and filling in time as the term work has already been completed. I am taking my daughter out the week before Easter this year to avoid the heavy Easter costs, avoid the Easter rush/traffic and as there will be five of us this year, to actually get a place to stay as things get booked solid at Easter very early on. Might also do the odd 'long weekend ' here and there also for weekend camping trips that arnt on our doorstep. I will definatly keep an eye on her school work to make sure that doesn't suffer and will adjust as soon as it does.
  5. were trying not to drive more than 4 hours each day so Townsville to cairns should be ok for one trip.but will definatly need a stop break half way, were also planning a couple of days at Innisfail. Thanks Bobj.
  6. Hi all, My family and I are doing a road trip from Central Queensland to Cairns/port Douglas. We only have two weeks and want to stop off on the way there and back to break up the journey. But the main reason for post ing is to find suggestions for campsites at Townsville and Cairns possibly Daintree if we make it that far. We will be tenting and using cabins on a few night to make life a bit more comfy. Also best things to do in Townsville/Cairns while were there? As we are only stopping a few days at each location. We have a 4x4 Pajero but don't want to do heavy off roading. Light to medium is fine though. Any and all help would be great...thanks in advance :wubclub:

    Baby koala

Really cute photos. btw there are wild Koalas at Noosa Heads national park, on the Sunny coast Qld. We have been there about 4 times and seen Koalas every time. A sign gets put up that tells you were the Koalas have been spotted that day so it makes it easier to go find them.
  8. Just my two bits worth but there is more to Queensland than Brisbane, Goldcoast, Sunshine Coast, people are so stuck on these areas and not willing to go further afield to gain the much needed work experience. The fact is new migrants pour into these cities on a daily basis looking for there first leg up. When we first moved to Queensland we were willing to work anywhere, we even nearly took a job in Mount Isa to get our foot in the door to gain much needed Aus/Queensland work experience, fortunately we didn't need to take that job but we did still move to a regional area as people were less willing to move here, so Hubby got an amazing job without taking a step down career wise, money we could only dream of earning and a fantastic village like community with the friendliest people in the world, great schools and all this without long commutes to work in heavy traffic and the beaches not full of tourists/backpackers to enjoy. We love it, and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Ok the quiet life isn't for everyone but who can be picky when you have to get started in a new Country. What I'm trying to say is look out side the shiny brisvagas/Goldcoast box and go elsewhere, if you don't like it, it doesn't need to be forever, just a year or so, you might surprise yourself as to what you might find.... The real Australia IMO!
  9. Ok that makes more sence lol, all of the places you mentioned are lovely places to live tbh, but I love Tewantin as it more 'country side' place to live, it's not right on the beach but not far to drive in, just outside Noosaville (which is my most favorite place) and it's quieter/less tourists/holiday makers. It has quite a few lovely village type shops running through the middle of the town. I would give anything to live on the Sunny Coast! But work is hard to come by there unfortunaly so I have to make to with holiday visits. Best of Luck

    Lng Project

Ok so that's a bit more information. So I guess you'll just have to apply for the job like the others, i guess your age might effect the application, they seem to work long hard hours on the Island and the pressure is on... Great money though as you have noticed. I really can't help you any further but give me a shout if you get the job to see if I can help any further. I wish you you the best of luck.
  11. I guess you know that these areas are in the Sunshine Coast? Are you looking at working in Brisbane? If so that quite a commute to do every day, from sunny coast to Brisbane, it's not really doable IMHO. I love Tewantin btw, so if you can find work on the sunny coast and not have to go into Brisbane, then that's a different matter.

    Lng Project

So are you in Australia already? Or UK. Tax will depend on how much you earn. Are they going to sort you a place to stay when you first arrive? That is usually the case, especially if your not from these parts. They have worker accomadation over on the Curtis Island so if you can get that sorted it would be easier. Im not sure about the age thing, I know Curtis have staffing issues and hard to get many skilled Engineers if that's what you'll be doing? So age shouldn't be a problem, you may have to pass a medical, but you'll have to ask. My hubby had to complete a detailed medical for his job, although he doesn't work over on the LNG project. you can open an ANZ account online.

I guess your talking about the Curtis Island LNG at Glastone?
  14. Same here, my husbands company paid for us to have private health cover in the UK via Bupa, I wouldn't pay for it in the UK out of my own pocket tbh as the NHs (depending on where you live ie post code lottery) is excellent and free. But if I was to have it, bupa would be first choice.
  15. As some one else said, the rubbish and very expensive taxi services don't help the situation. I know a few people who consistently drink and drive  And I find in Queensland, speeding is the norm. A friend of mine's hushand has just lost his licence for the third time due to speeding offences. She said he just doesn't care one bit about the speed limits, and just does what he wants! My husband and I take turns to be the 'designated driver' which isn't much fun as one person is always sober as a judge. But a $50 taxi ride home is just not on.... Shocking driving on the whole here......end of
  16. Ask the real estate agent, they should have some reccomedations, that's what I did.
  17. My son and his girlfriend got there's a couple of months ago, took a few hours only.
  18. Awwww what cute little doggies. Love the scalped Aussie hair cut lol. Great post
  19. We love Bundy, been there a few times now (Begara, Elliot heads) has some great camping spots. Personally we love Bundy Rum and always have a bottle in the cupboard, have to lock it away as DH as addicted to the stuff... :goofy:

    Renting vs Buying

I thought the the same at first, fed up of renovating, thought renting would be less of a responsibility for a while. But now after 18 months in a rental....I hate it, can't put our pictures up on the wall, my Daughter can't have her own bedroom the way she would like it to make her feel more at home, inspections every 3 months feels so invasive. Can't wait to find our first house here, and prices have dropped so much in our area since we moved here so it's the right time and the final piece to our jigsaw.
  21. It depends what part of Queensland your going to as to how bad it is. Now iv lived in Central Queensland for 18 months and only felt it a couple of days in the very wet hot weather January/Feb time, other than that, Cental Queensland is a dry heat and the weather is Glorious 98% of the time all year round IMHO  However other parts are more humid, I found Noosa quite humid at times and played havoc with my hair  and my mate on the gold coast( which seems to get a lot more rain) says she does get humidity. But seeing as your moving near me, then I wouldn't worry too much, obviously it is a lot hotter than Sydney so unless your not good at tolerating the heat, and it will be wet season shortly.
  22. We're going to Harvey bay this weekend, hubby doing a team triathlon race. There are lots of lovely caravan parks at Harvey Bay as it's a tourist spot, look at "BIG4" caravan Parks Harvey Bay on Google.you can hire a nice cabin/lodge, great facilities usually, jumping pillow/pool/BBQ areas. Should find it too hard to find a nice place to stay. good luck
  23. i definitely don't sound Australian ....innit geezer!
  24. Same here, on the few Brits iv met here, which isn't many (but often hear passing accents ) they seem to be either Scottish, Irish or Northerners. Not met one from the south yet. I am both, spent my childhood growing up in the north and lived the remainder down south(unfortunately). In my head I'm northern but out of my mouth comes a southerner :goofy:
