  1. Hello We fly into Brisbane at 23.35hrs. Need to find a value for money hotel for what will be left of the night, before returning to the airport in the morning to pick up the hire car. Is the old formulae 1 now IBIS our only option? Have searched extensively so have given up on finding a shuttle service at that time of night. Don't fancy the taxi fares into the city. Aren't there anymore hotels around the airport? Cheers in advance.
  2. Hi all Our 2 girls are 6 and 4. They are up to date with all UK vaccinations. Am I right that before starting school they will need a Hep B vaccine? Or are there others as well. We are heading to Qld (Sunshine Coast) at the end of October. Thank you in advance.
  3. Thanks guys. I did phone them and was told that extra baggage allowance is granted to those who pay their 'special' migrant fares. Didn't push it as am now resolved to travel light! (delusional or what?) We're allowed 80kg of checked baggage and 28kg of hand luggage plus a laptop bag; handbag and two small rucksacs.... by then we'll have sent a 20 ft container and air freighted 3 boxes of essentials..... how much can there possibly be left???!! Anybody worked out how you travel like a young free and single backpacker with a family and a lifetime of stuff?...
  4. Have booked with CP.... price just too good to worry about baggage allowance.... £2300 for the 4 of us! Thanks for tips on hand luggage though, will definately do that.
  5. If only the miserable and mean stuck to the MBTTUK thread....... but they don't.... they stick their two penny's worth in all over the site.
  6. Anybody know if Cathay Pacific Airlines offer extra baggage allowance for 457 visa holders? Can't find anything on their website about migrants. Qantas have a good migration policy on their website and offer extra baggage allowance for most visas including 457. Unfortunately though their prices are currently £300 per person more expensive than Cathay (for the dates we are looking at)!
  7. I've found this site helpful: www.mychild.gov.au Don't know about mother and toddler groups though. Good luck.
  8. Contact the uni where you did your nurse training and explain that you need the full transcript. I trained 20 years ago and the college no longer exists. But discovered that the alternative today is the uni in the same city, contacted them, they knew exactly what I was talking about as they have regular requests for transcripts for emigration purposes! Cost me £50. My transcript has all my module results and reports, the wards I was based on and all my exam results and grades. Fascinating reading after 20 years!
  9. This is THE best place to find out everything and anything about migrating to Oz. Look at the visa wizard on DIAC's website to find out the different visa options and if your skills are wanted in Oz. Good luck. http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/
  10. My wife has a full time job to go to too, and we will be lucky if we have $38 to take with us.....ahh the power of the credit card !!!!!!
  11. Hoping to fly out at half term (29th oct in Wales). Waiting for employer to confirm start date. Planning on 3 or 4 day stopover in Hong Kong. Hope I here from them early next week as I've seen some good flight prices!
  12. Answer: The wife! What's Toowoomba like on first impressions?
  13. Thanks for that. Very interesting. Had a newsletter from Ramsay Health this morning that states that they have had approval to call their new hospital 'Sunshine Coast Private University Hospital'.... only time will tell I guess..
  14. Does this news affect the new hospital planned in Kawana Waters?
  15. Crikey.... when I first started looking for nursing jobs I naively thought that QLD Health would be the safest and best employer to sponsor me. Luckily they didn't bite my hand off like I thought they would and I was forced to look at other employers in the healthcare world.
  16. We are off to the Sunshine Coast, qld. Exact location to be negotiated! Good luck with your adventure..
  17. Ahpra was a nightmare. Finding a job was much harder than I thought it would be. e457 application was a breeze! Lodged it on the 23rd of August, had the medical on the 28th of August and got the visa granted today, the 6th of September!!!!!!!!!! OMG.. now need to panic; then celebrate; then panic some more; then de-clutter; then panic even more; then calm down and start writing even more lists; then get excited; then get nervous; then up my alcohol intake; and then... breathe..... Happy days folks!...
  18. From what I can remember, the visa application asked for 'post secondary education' qualifications. I didn't include my school results, just my qualifications pertinent to my profession.
  19. As it is beginning to dawn on my husband that time is running out and that it turns out that all the 'nagging' over the last 2 months to start sorting stuff out and selling/dumping it.. was actually good, sound advice, the recycling box that takes glass has been filling up quicker than usual with certain green bottles!.... He is so daunted at the moment that he actually admitted that he "should have listened to me.." I, on the other hand have become the 'list queen' as well as being overly familiar with the dwindling contents of our wine rack... Lord help us when the green light is lit (i.e. visa granted email).
  20. where are you heading to? We are off to the Sunshine Coast.
  21. Sounds good to me! My employer asked if I'd go over on a 457 and then once I'm ready they'll sponsor for a permanent visa. Made sure I got the latter in writing! Be brilliant if the visa is granted quickly, desperate to hand my notice in!...
  22. Hi The visa application will be completed within 2 weeks or the visa will be granted within 2 weeks? Which visa are you going on? My application is being processed by the melbourne guys (even though I'm heading to Qld) and they say that once all the required info is received they aim to make a decision within 2-3 working days! My medical results will be uploaded tomorrow (so I have been promised!) so will I know by the end of the week?????.... if only eh? I received my nomination trn on the 15th of Aug. and lodged my application on the 23rd.
  23. Hi yes we are in the same situation.....all along its been a dream, and great to feel excited on what could happen, but we are about to have our visa's granted in the next few weeks, and omg we are now feeling the "is this right, can we do it, should we do it, why are we doing this etc".....we have both travelled, i have worked overseas alot, and we have researched so much and been to the area we intend to call "new place to live"....we have two young kids, and one income when we land.....but still have the stomach churning more and more....we have just done our "bubble list" you know when we finished that job, that bubble bursts and on to capture the next bubble to burst.....we have just worked that we leave or plan to leave 23rd oct......and then omg moments come back......can we do it, or should we drag it out or do this or do that...... so rest assured, you and we and others all go through these moments.......until no more bubbles to burst, and your sat sipping wine near the beach at you destination saying "remember when we thought of not coming".......unless of course your destination is the outback....then your too busy fighting off the flies.
