  1. Ditto!!!! We had a heated discussion about tog ratings we will need in oz, in Sainsbury's bedding aisle this afternoon....
  2. Had a face to face interview today with ozzie employers over here in London. Got offered a job on the spot!! Trying to keep calm until I see the full details of the offer in writing but OMG!!!! One small step for pio but one major step for the james family....
  3. Have also sent this to you in a pm. Took it from a dwp leaflet. Going abroad permanently · You must tell us straight away if you, your child, children, or all of you leave the UK permanently or for an absence that is likely to last for more than a year when you leave. · If you are going abroad permanently but your child is staying in the UK and living with someone else, the person they are living with should get in touch with us to claim Child Benefit. Going abroad temporarily You will be treated as being abroad temporarily if your absence isunlikely to last more than a year when you leave. If you go abroad temporarily, you can continue to get Child Benefit: · for up to eight weeks, whatever the reason for your absence · for the first 12 weeks you are abroad if you go or stay abroad because you are, or a member of your family is, receiving treatment for an illness or disability or because a member of your family has died. You can make a new claim to Child Benefit while you are abroad temporarily, so long as you are ordinarily resident in the UK. Hope this helps.
  4. pm me with an address and i'll post them in the morning. Ann
  5. i've got some books and cd that really helped me. Where are you based?
  6. Luckily we are both (DH and I) on the same page when it comes to emigrating. Can you imagine what it must have been like for those who emigrated before the web was around?? They'd have to have relied on out of date books or chinese whispers of a better life..... I have researched the backside off every aspect of emigrating... school system; realestate; medicare; diac....etc. etc. I could set up as a relocation agent tomorrow - there is no stone that I have not turned over... at least twice. I'm stock piling shorts and t shirts for the girls, as well as swimming stuff. Every purchase has to pass the 'will it be useful in / will we take it to, australia test'. We watch any programme on tv that has the vaguest link to oz... police shows, cookery shows.... I look at ABC oz every day to monitor what crime is happening in what part of queensland. There is not, and has not been, a day that has gone by in the last 18 months when I have not been on the web researching or checking something related to emigrating. So, I ask again... what on earth did people do before the www????
  7. Hi guys Am a nurse. Not having much luck with own job search so have turned to an agency. Professional Connections to be exact. Got a pre-screening interview with them later this week. They've sent me loads of info. but obviously still a little nervous. Anyone been through it with profco or another agency? Any advice/tips?
  8. PIC? Am I missing something? Or do you mean this site PIO?
  9. To pinch a great line from a brilliant film we saw lately...... " Everything will be alright in the end. At the moment, things are not alright.. therefore it is not the end!" Keep sending positive thoughts down under and what is meant to be, will be. Good luck.
  10. Safely for you or for the spider? 'Cause I have to say.... not caring much about the safety of the spider...
  11. made the mistake of watching this clip and then watching others..... thought I was getting less afraid of spiders as I got older... apparently not.... felt sick and had tears in my eyes... have to say though that the guy was useless at catching spiders... and he had a young child in the room!!!! Going to stop watching videos and start researching giant spider catchers with six metre handles......Hi, my name is Ann and I am frightened of spiders....
  12. Aahh the memories of AHPRA brisbane........ complete nightmare. Several late night phonecalls repeating the same thing again and again. Trying to get passed the initial person who answers the phone in order to speak to someone in the nursing assessment department should be a uni degree course! You have to be firm but friendly. Insist on getting the information you are looking for and not get fobbed off. Take names of everyone you speak to. I spent more time on hold than actually speaking to someone (do-able on skype) but If I hadn't been so proactive, I have no doubt that I'd still be waiting now. Pm me if you want any specific tips. Good luck.
  13. Its not a waiting list. You'll be assessed once you lodge an interest. Depending on your skills and level of qualifications in your profession you'll be prioritised. The more needed you profession is and the more qualified/eperienced you are, the more likely you are to be invited to apply for a visa. Its all about making the process of immigration faster/smoother by matching skills to areas that are lacking. hence why most employer visas are exempt. You can get a permanent employer sponsored visa. Spend some time browsing the diac website.
  14. You have until 1st of July to lodge an application for an 'independant' visa. From the 1st you will only be able to lodge your interest and wait for an invite to apply. Some employer sponsored visas are exempt from the changes.
  15. think you have to wait for the approval. As I understand it, your employer should tell you when to go ahead and apply for the visa. Good luck.
  16. Anybodies guess I'm afraid. Brisbane did my reg. application...... quick is not a word I would associate with them! For me... hounding verging on harrassing seemed to work in the end.... many nights staying up in order to phone them and demand an update. Good luck.
  17. Be initialed on every page by the Authorised Officer. Annotated on the last page as appropriate e.g. “I have sighted the original document and certify this to be a true copy of the original” and signed by the Authorised Officer. List the name, date of certification, and contact phone number and position number (if relevant) and have the stamp or seal of the Authorised Officer (if relevant) applied Shop around for someone, prices vary considerably. Some people charge per document, some per person regardless of how many documents. Don't know how geared up JP's are but notary publics do this every day and know exactly what they need to do. Good luck.

  20. I'd sell something like that if it gave me extra money to get to Aus. I'd keep an actual set of plates from it though, to hang on the garage wall or someplace in the new house though. A way to remember the plate by even if you no longer actually own the registration sad...but needed that push....papers signed, and sent recorded delivery.......on wards and up wards.................should i continue on with this format and sell the wife.....i did it once in asia, and got and exchange rate of 3 elephants to one wife..........................but the guy wanted a refund when he found out how stubborn she was ( opps I'm in trouble if she reads this)
