  1. Hi, We are breaking lease on this property in Secret Harbour. Lovely place, just we are returning to the UK. Has a large back garden which is unusual for this suburb! Pets are considered too. http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-wa-secret+harbour-412890391 Probably best to contact agent direct if interested as we move out on Monday. Thanks, Alison
  2. Hi everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any insurers that will insure our one way trip back to the UK. I managed to find a company who did specialist migration insurance for our original journey but can't find anything for going back. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Alison
  3. Hi all, We are looking at returning to the UK and have had Crown over this morning to give us a quote for sending back our furniture. One thing that caught us out is that if we return prior to the 12 months, we may be subject to import duty / VAT. Has this happened to anyone? So now I'm panicking as I'm worried how much it will be. Some of the household belongings we actually brought with us, would we be charged on those too? Also, is it if you arrive as a person back in the UK before the 12 months or if the container does? Has anyone been through this? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Ali
  4. Thanks for quick replies. Is that even for teaching as that's another avenue he was looking at?
  5. Hi all, Bit of a long story so will try and keep it short! Basically we were granted a 176 state sponsored WA in August. We are now busy planning the big move. My hubby saw a job he was really interested in with the local govt in WA so he applied, we are still in the UK but can go anytime. He was turned down with the reason that they can only offer perm jobs to people who have perm residency status due to changes by the dept or immigration. We are really concerned as our visa does give us perm residency. Has anyone come across these changes and if so can you clarify what they mean? I personally think they've bodged up but would be interested in views! It's just worried us as hubby's whole UK career has been local govt so if he can't get in in Oz were not sure what he will do. Thanks in advance! Ali
  6. Hi everyone, Just a quick query. We were granted a 176 state sponsored visa in July (before all changes) sponsored by WA. Hubby applied for a job with the government from the uk, we haven't moved yet, and was turned down because you needed to have citizenship or permanent residency to apply? We thought our 176 was perm residency, it states no exemptions. I think they have got it wrong, or is a 176 classed as temporary in their eyes??? Or do you have to be a citizen? Which means we'd have to wait 5 years before he could get a government job?? any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Ali

  8. Thanks for replies. LizOz I work in human resources in health care. Not had to look for a job in UK for ages. There seems to be lots of jobs so hopefully it will work out when we arrive. It's just so nerve wracking! Ali
  9. Hi everyone, Having a bad day with it all today so could do with some positive vibes if anyone has them!! I'm in HR and we are looking at going July 2013. Unless I secured employment before then. Basically today I rang someone about a job on seek and asked if they would accept applications from UK based candidates ie me! Straight no, she said that things have dropped off in Perth since 6 months ago and they now have lots of candidates for every HR job. So she said not to bother applying for anything before I go. I'm so disheartened I thought I stood a good chance but now I'm really worried about getting a job when we get there then that increases my worries about getting a long term rental as no job no income so potentially no long term house?! is anyone there in HR that can offer any advice, or even just a positive!! thanks ali
  10. Thanks for replies. Useful to hear it from people who are there. Gary thanks your info is really useful, we have friends in Rockingham too so may end up being based near there! Thanks again Ali
  11. Hi everyone, Me and my family (hubby & 1 5 yr old son) are moving to Perth in July 2013. We would move earlier if we could get a job (both or just one of us) but this is proving challenging! So a couple of questions! Did anyone manage to secure a job before moving? I'm a HR Manager in the UK which is how we got the visa but the positions I've applied for have basically fedback that they wouldn't recruit from the UK! So that's my first question. Second one is, can you really secure a long term rental without a job? We were planning on a 6 week short term rental to give us time to find a long term but if we haven't got jobs would we be able to get a long term rental? Any advice is welcome, panic is kicking in!!! Thanks, Ali
  12. Hi Tracey, Just wondering, how easy did you find getting a rental in Duncraig? Me & my husband & son are coming over next year (latest July) and we like the look of Duncraig but have read some posts that say its really hard to get a rental property with plus 20 prospective tenants for every one! Our price range is around $400 - $500 a week (we think dependant on jobs) and we would be looking ideally for a 3 bed property. Could you let me know what your thoughts are? Also, sorry to bombard you! but did you get a short term rental before you moved to Duncraig? How did that work out for you? We are looking at getting a short term for approx 6 weeks which we hope would give us enough time to get a long term rental. Any help / advice would be appreciated. It's hard to make decisions on something you haven't seen! Hope you and your family are settling in and enjoying your new life down under. Many thanks, Ali
  13. Hi everyone, Just a quick question. We were granted a 176 visa in August, I am the main applicant and my husband and son were secondary applicants. My husband has started applying for jobs and we are just wondering, if he is successful, can he travel out there without me? Ideally, if he gets a job he would go out and we would follow a month or so later. Can we do this or do I have to go with him? Any advice much appreciated. Thank you, Ali
  14. Hi Shelli, Thanks for your reply, that's really helpful. I will definitely keep your contact details and be in touch nearer the time of our arrival if that's okay. Thanks for the other reply too! Any advice greatly appreciated! Ali
  15. Hi everyone, Just moved over to this forum after being granted a visa in August. We are due to migrate in July 2013, and can't wait! We are spending most nights researching areas / jobs / properties etc. Can anyone give us any advice on the rental situation? We will be looking in and around the Duncraig area. We are hoping to get a short term rent maybe for 6 weeks whilst we secure a longer term option. So a few questions if anyone can help? 1) Can you secure a long term rent from the UK (i.e. through realestate.com without viewing the property) - obviously massively risking but just wondering if it is achievable? 2) Do you think a 6 week short term rent is long enough to secure a long term rent - we've seen some web sites saying it's really hard to get a long term rent so really worried we might not be giving ourselves long enough with 6 weeks? 3) What "evidence" do you need when going for the long term rent? We may not secure employment before we go so will UK references from previous employers and bank statements be enough? Any help at all would be really really appreciated. Many many thanks, Ali
